A word from Solstice Kitchen
A multiple-winner of Open Table's "Best Overall Restaurant" in South Carolina, Solstice Kitchen & Wine Bar is the partner restaurant of Mr. Friendlys New Southern Cafe and Cellar on Greene. Owner/Executive Chef, Ricky Mollohan, teams up with Chef Alan Boyle to create weekly menus that change to emphasize the seasonal meaning of "Solstice". All menus utilize interpretations of dishes ranging from classic American & French, to Mediterranean & Japanese.

Join them for lunch to enjoy such classics as Shrimp-n-Grits, Pan Seared Salmon Cakes and a Fried Green Tomato-Pimento Cheese Burger. Customer favorites at dinner include the tableside Beef Tartare, Hudson Valley Foie Gras with fried quail egg, Smoked Gouda-Applewood Bacon Mac-n-Cheese and varying selections of Prime Beef, freshly caught Seafood, locally-farmed produce and housemade desserts. Solstice also offers one of SC's best Wine Lists with over 400 selections, as well as, an innovative cocktail list.

I'm thinking to myself what's the point in having a reservation if you will not be seated at the time of your reservation? 8:35 the hostess came over and apologized for out wait and offered us a table in the private dining area and I was pleased with that.Our waiter for the night was very attentive and nice. Our entrées arrived and I must say it was worth the wait. The salmon, grits, and spinach I ordered was absolutely delicious. Every thing was cooked to perfection in my opinion. The food was perfect! - I cannot think of anything that I did not like about the food. This was my first time visiting this restaurant but I feel pretty confident that I will return."

  • "I love this place. It is usually my go to for a first time dinner date, or special occasions. The food is fantastic, the ambiance is relaxed, the staff is top notch. Did I mention the food is fantastic? There is a wide variety of food to satisfy any kind of palate. I recommend Solstice to all my friends. I have even taken my very picky parents here who both approved immediately. As a testament to how much I truly love this restaurant, I brought my cousin from India (who currently lives in Sweden) to this restaurant. He had only one weekend in Columbia and only one week in the United States, and I wanted to make sure he had a dining experience from a top-notch, unforgettable restaurant. Mission accomplished!"

  • "That time I was disappointed because the food (both appetizer and entrée) was overcooked: there was a coal taste, especially for the foie gras. What a pity because ingredients were first-class ingredients: foie gras and scallops. Otherwise there is a real research in the dish creation. This is something I really appreciate there."

For starters we shared fried sezchuan(sp?) lobster tail and a unique preparation of foi gras, and both were outstanding. For the main course we had a striped sea bass and veal hanger steak, again both outstanding. We ended with champaigne chocolate truffles and a banana fatita (sp ?). Enjoyed a bottle of very reasonably priced Chilean Pinot Noir from a great wine selection. Service was outstanding as usual."

  • "Eaten here often and always enjoy it. Fried oysters appetizer was tasty but a slightly over-battered. My wife and I both ordered off black grouper the specials menu and loved it. Very tasty and sufficient proportion (though not enough to split, if that's your thing). On a whim decided to try the berry cobbler and found it pretty disappointing. Essentially was a bowl of the berry sauce with a fairly tasteless slab of bread in the middle, with a little whip cream on top. A small (1-2 ounce) serving of ice cream was fantastic on the berries, but not enough so had to use very sparingly. Really hoped for more, but the main dish really made up for any disappointment with the dessert."

  • "I wanted the Meatloaf which was on the dinner menu at11:00 am but by 6 it was gone. Does chef not plan ahead. Eveyone in town love the meatloaf! So very disappointed in more than one way. I had, instead, the hangar steak and fries (frites, whatever). Steak very good but the fries were no longer crisp within about 3 minutes. I have had this experience at Woodcreek with their homemade chips. So last evening i made oven fries---they stayed crisp through most of the dinner. Indeed it can be done!!!"

Typically we have to go to Charlotte for fine dining but Solstice Kitchen has blown all other establishments out of the water. We received complimentary treats from the chef, the staff was pleasant, and the setting was very romantic. The food was exquisite we had the salmon and chicken breast, both very moist and bursting with flavor. The wine selection is tasteful and theirs a huge variety. Lastly the dessert was out of this world. It definitely sealed the deal for me. I look forward to attending this establishment very soon."

  • "My husband and I visited Solstice for Valentine's day. Our reservation was held for us and we were seated promptly at a lovely corner table. The atmosphere in the dining area is quiet, but not so quiet that we felt uncomfortable talking, but when others in the dining area got a little carried away they could easily be heard throughout. The dining area is also open, but they have seating arranged in such a way that we were still able to enjoy a very intimate night out. Every menu item was thoughtfully prepared and everything we ordered was out of this world delicious! On top of that, service was phenomenal. The next time my husband and I can sneak away for a night out, Solstice will be our top choice."

  • "I enjoyed the dining experience. The tables are a little close together for my taste but surprisingly the acoustics prevented any interruption from my tables conversation. The food was very good. I was unimpressed when I asked for their best Riesling and they brought out a bottle with a screw off top. It was drinkable but I would not order it again and it certainly was not worth $40. If wine is not a problem for you, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit as the food was quite good."

In addition to the courses included, we added their soup of the day which was Thai Coconut Curry-Lobster Bisque. It was exceptional. The restaurant staff was helpful and attentive. I ordered a Manhattan from the bar and the bartender really knows how to make the drink. Really enjoyed our evening."

  • "Went during Restaurant Week this weekend & we took advantage of the $35/3 course deal. My husband enjoyed his selections; Plantation Stew, Steak and Apple Ginger Spring Rolls. I on the other hand thought it was just ok. I had the calamari (just okay; Carrabba's -a chain- is better), buttermilk fried flounder (kinda bland & luke warm) with bean succotash (best thing of the entree) & spring rolls (fried too hard). The pink moscato was suggested by wait staff & it was very good. Speaking of wait staff, ours was okay; not intrusive, but not overly attentive either; we needed a couple of things and had to wait on him to return. Of all my dishes, I enjoyed the gouda mac and cheese (side order). My 5th/6th time to Solstice,but least fav visit."
