  • "Easy to get to in Bath with a hip decor and some yummy lunch choices. We had 3 different items and they all were good. After 2 out of 3 of us ordered the cream brûlée we were disappointed to hear it had just come out of the oven and was not ready. So we just shared our companions chocolate mouse. It was very good and actually plenty for us to share since it was rich. But it was well done with a dollop of whip cream on the top and a delicious crunchy sweet element in between that & the mouse. The staff was good. One woman was maybe in charge and never smiled. She cast a gloom over the table each time she visited. She was nice, maybe in a bad mood? The bathrooms are on the lower level, very nice soap & lotion. Cool bar down there too."

  • "We wanted to splurge and also be entertained...we love music and knew that there was jazz on Friday night, which is why we chose Solo Bistro. The music was wonderful, we actually sat at the first table upstairs, directly in front of the two performers, one singer and one on guitar....their melodies were from the swing era so enjoyable , lively enough but not too intrusive into our conversation. It was a very enjoyable experience and would do it again... Portions are just right.and you leave feeling satisfied but not stuffed. My order of Duck was tender as could be, and I had more than enough to share some with my dining partner. My husband got the steak which he said cut like butter so we both felt satisfied."

  • "My husband and I went for Valentine's dinner and the restaurant was booming due to many cancellations from the night before caused by a snowstorm. Solo Bistro was doing all they could to accommodate what would be a busy holiday night without the overload created by Mother Nature. We had appetizer, wine, entrees and dessert; all of which were beautifully presented and most pleasing to the palate. My hope is to return on a less busy occasion and perhaps find seating in the upstairs dining room when they have live jazz playing through the dinner hour. Solo Bistro is a real delight, and definitely on my list to revisit!"

  • "It was very busy, as would be expected on Valentine's Day. We had a reservation for 7:30 and we were seated by 7:40. We had a glass of wine in the bar downstairs for the 15 minutes or so we waited....there was plenty of room and we were served almost immediately. The only complaint that we had, was that the singer was too loud for such an intimate environment and on an evening when most couples would prefer something softer and less grating, making it easier to have conversation."

The vanilla creme brûlée was divine. The brussell sprout salad needed a touch more seasoning. The kale salad was decadent with the macadamia nuts. A great time."

  • "As always the food was superb. The Service equally outstanding! It was a very cold snowy wintry night in early February in Bath Maine and one wondered if the restaurant would even stay open. They DID and it was warm and cozy with great ambiance and the staff were delightful in their enthusiasm to serve us. It was a great night! Rather than be grumpy about having to work on a stormy night they seemed very pleased we were there and made the evening delightful."

  • "Comfortable atmosphere with fantastic food from start to finish! Shredded Brussels sprouts salad was unique and wonderful, light and just right. The oysters app - perfect. We had a fish night, Hake with a white bean sauce for my husband, Salmon with mashed sweet potato and Bok Choy for me. Awesome mix of favors on both plates. :). We're return diners and I would highly recommend Solo Bistro to anyone who loves great food!"

  • "Service was good. Menu selection disappointing. Food preparation was uneven -- cheese platter had minuscule portions of cheese for the price, vegetables were too highly salted. Menu description of vegetables didn't include all ingredients, such as anchovies. Wine selection was very good. Overall, a disappointing meal, especially for the prices charged."

So glad that we did as it was a marvelous experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. Very pleasant atmosphere, wonderfully attentive staff, great food and the icing on the cake was some really nice live jazz. An altogether very pleasant experience and we're looking forward to future visits, hopefully on an evening when it's not raining so that we can sit outside."

  • "The service and food is consistently good at Solo Bistro. The menu offers a totally different selection of food from what is usually offered in this area. The selection may at first feel small, but there is something for everyone and the meals are delicious. Portion size is perfect; you can have an entree, and feel full but not overstuffed. Leave that for dessert. Decor is funky chic. It can get loud when things are in full swing, but that can be part of the ambience. I wouldn't go here for an intimate dinner for 2, but it is an appropriate place if you want a fun night out (for 2 +). We once went for a small party and the owners went out of their way to provide a special plate of hor d'oeuvres and a place to have cocktails and mingle."

Kitchen noise wasn't noticeable. Off-season it wasn't crowded on a Friday night. I would rate it one of the top five restaurants in Bath/Brunswick area."

  • "I really wanted to like this place since it is close to home and offers more than fried fish. That said I can not recommend it. As soon as we sat down the waitress was wanting to take our order, please give me at least five minutes to read the menu! Little did I know this would be one of the last times I would see her! A table mate spilled a drink and used the napkin to stop the liquid from landing in their lap so they needed one to use during dinner. Would you believe it took more than five requests to get one? Water glasses were never refilled after the initial filling even though requests were made. As you can see the wait staff was horrible and it does over shadow the evening. Chicken curry should have chicken in it too."

We reserved an early time, as it was bad weather, and we were the only ones in our dining area, for some time - therefore it was quiet. Delightful! Our waitress was knowledgeable, attentive, and our meal delicious, from beginning to finish!! *(the evening's scallop appetizer, focaccia, roasted beet & carrot salad, baked hake - which was a real treat!! - and my husband's pork tenderloin was equally delicious ... and since it WAS a birthday, we "over-finished" with the chocolate mousse AND the balsamic poached pear!! We left, as VERY happy diners!!"

  • "We had been away and wanted to treat the person who picked us up at the bus stop. We knew this would delight and we had a wonderful dinner and time with our guest. We both had the hanger steak, both were cooked to our different specifications perfectly and was beautiful and as tasty as could be. One of the things about Solo Bistro that appeals to us is that the portions are not enormous. It's good because the food is always so tasty that we always clean our plates. It's nice to have room for a bit of sweet at the end. And we both appreciate the decaf cappuccinos at the end of dinner. Thanks agin, Solo!"

  • ".We ordered halibut in a miso reduction. The seasonal vegetables were a roasted root mash and kale. The halibut was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The root mash had the homey familiarity of mashed potatoes but with the interest of turnips and sweet potatoes added. The kale was perfectly cooked, respecting the characteristics of kale but seasoned with the liquor from the halibut marinade. We drank a fantastic wine, Dr. Frank's dry Riesling. For dessert we shared the best creme brulee I have ever eaten. An extraordinary meal in a special place!"

Our party of four enjoyed a variety of main courses, including steak, halibut, lobster meat, and gnocchi .   • "I eat in NYC regularly. I agree with other reviewers that Solo will satisfy foodies who know good food. Don't expect the earth to move but do expect high quality, creativity and intelligence. Get the mussels if you like them. The broth was amazing. The only criticism I have is being a New Yorker I like a good artisanal crusty bread. It seemed a shame not to have some like that instead of the soft bland bread they offer with their outstanding "butter of the day" - ours was apricot ginger and it was lovely."

I was dining with a neighborhood friend who also hadn't been in for years so we were both excited to give it another try- we were not disappointed! Everything we ordered was wonderful from start to finish- we were both pleased with everything that came out of the kitchen. As well, the prices are reasonable and the portions just right.
