We hadn't been to Solo Bistro before. The Dan Hicks Concert at the Chocolate Church provided the perfect occasion. The squash soup with chipotle was sweet and sparky. One of us had Pan Seared Scallops with spicy squash bisque, sautéed spinach, tomatoes, basil & agrodolce. Very good. The other dinner was a mushroom risotto, equally nice. All in all a very good meal that will warrant a return.

First time here and heard I would not be disappointed. But I was. Not knowing the restaurant i didnt know to request the downstairs room which would have been quieter and had ambience. Instead i was seated in front of the door next to the register. The menu looked great and my friend ordered the special which was lobster orchietta. Good flavor but very rich. I ordered the Hake which would have been flavorless without the horseradish potato puree which was fabulous. The curried mussels were good but the broth was overwhelming. I saw some salads go by which looked quite enticing. I would go back to try some other menu items. The wait staff was good although their attire didn't seem to match the type of restaurant they are portrayed as in write ups. The menu is considered "upscale" but nothing else about the place is. I guess they want to portray comfort and friendly which is fine but the combo of that with the upscale menu doesn't seem to match. I will try it again and ask for the downstairs room. Maybe my food will taste better.

The setting is a renovated series of storefronts in the main street of Bath done in a simple and modern style. Nicer on the inside than out. However, whatever your need for ambiance is, ignore it and go have lunch there. Delicious, well presented, CREATIVE combinations and very professional service. All of which is a lot to find in that small coastal town. We had a great experience.

Solo Bistro is a gem. A friend alerted us to the Wednesday prix fixe menu special, which was excellent value for money. Portions are just the right size. The spinach salad with warm bacon vinagrette was highlighted by shavings of fennel. Nice contrast in tastes. The chicken piccata was savory and the grilled polenta triangles off set the chicken nicely. The lemon cheesecake, with raspberry sauce was a tart ending to the meal and the lemon peel in the crust was a welcome surprise. We also were pleasantly surprised by the Gus sodas -- very good and refreshing! The service was excellent. Our server Julia was attentive and very helpful in explaining the offerings and giving sound advice about the meal. We will be back!

Everything was great except our server. She made us feel rushed, hovered too much and insisted that we must order everything at once because that works best. We have been here at least a dozen times and have never been told that. We did hear her say that to her other diners in the room and I'm certain this must have been merely a convenience for her. The food and drinks were excellent as always!

I own a B&B in the area and many of my guests enjoy this gem for dining in Bath. I finally got out for only my second visit in 3 years. I found the food to be good. The fish was great! App and dessert could use a little improvement, but overall a decent dinner out.

As with previous trips here, the food was good (my husband's) to very good (mine). Our experience, however, was diminished by being seated immediately next to a very loud group of two even though the room only had three tables filled and we could easily have been seated at a greater distance from theirs. Hard to figure why they did not space us out more, but consistent with thoughtless service in the past.

We found out about Solo Bistro because met Julia, 2 nights before. We got to talking to her about the area and she told us she worked at Solo Bistro. We decided to try it and what a delight. We asked for Julia's section, and the evening was perfect! The Hake was excellent, farm salad delicious. The wine list was great and the service even better. We will travel the 90 minutes from Kennebunk to dine there again.

My husband and I went for his birthday. We were delighted that it was a night for music as we had been meaning to experience this. The music was charming, not too intrusive but very satisfying. We had delicious Damariscota oysters and a fabulous wild mushroom tart for appetizers. The tart was amazing. My husband had hanger steak and I had a lovely preparation of hake with mushrooms, greens, and grits. The wine list is limited but excellent. We had an excellent Chablis.

We have dined at Solo Bistro several times over the last few years for lunch and for dinner. We've always been very pleased and happy with the food, service, and ambiance which are reliably excellent. Ingredients are fresh and local. The menu is varied and creative (but not overwrought), and the cocktails are delicious. The restaurant is both elegant and comfortable, perfect for a cosy meal with friends or a special dining experience. We will hopefully return again and again.

Anticipating a great ending to a trip I made reservations at Solo Bistro, specifically on Friday for the jazz. First was seated directly in front of the kitchen, loud! They said no room in jazz room- needed reservations. We made reservations MONTHS AHEAD but did not indicate the Jazz room. If this specific reservation is needed, PLEASE post on website so out of town guests will know to ask for this. So disappointed. Server and staff was mediocre at best. No genuine interest in us. Food good. We left feeling disappointed. We will not recommend this place or ever go back. I will spend my $$$$$ somewhere else. Get better staff!

Atmosphere is somewhat quirky, and the tables are a tad crowded. That being said, the food was recieved to rave reviews. The headlock piccata was a particular hit, as was the steak frites. (In fact, one of our diners even ordered the frites for dessert.) I found the server to be a little aloof, but the rest of the party was satisfied. The cocktails are phenomenal, and the bartender is very talented.

We have always liked Solo Bistro but felt it was not quite as good in some undefinable way. The food was fine but not special. My lobster dish was very short on lobster. Considering the cost of lobster and the cost of this dish, there really should not have been so little in the lobster area. My companian's dish was served on a bed of watery blue mashed potatoes, not appealing. Solor Bistro is still one of the better choices in the mid-Maine area, but just not as good as it once was.

This is a pleasant restaurant. It is also unpredictable. Swordfish was good, also crab cakes. But an adventuresome "Caesar" had less character than a chain restaurant salad made with bottled dressing. In short, it was almost tasteless. Likewise the lobster dish, which was expensive, especially given the cheapness of lobster right now, and was never more than a collection of greens and chewy lobster, with sad little dabs of chipotle sauce. More chipotle please! Is it that this restaurant's mostly older clientele is afraid of spicy, even on the side? I doubt it, since the same demographic is packing Tao in Brunswick. Best to stick to the basics here and avoid the "fancy" dishes.

Have always heard good things about Solo Bistro and was looking forward to it but was ultimately disappointed. The air conditioning was too cold so it wasn't that comfortable, and while the waitress we had was delightful, the woman pouring our water was crabby and unresponsive, which set the tone upon our arrival. The special drink was very good. The menu is severely limited for vegetarians, unfortunately, and the one vegetarian entree (mushroom and bean cassoulet) was exceedingly bland and had very few mushrooms in it. If you aren't vegetarian you will likely have a totally different experience since the menu looked good for meat eaters. A savory rosemary cookie that accompanied the creme brule was interesting and delicious.

We had eaten here on 3 occasions while on vacation. Each time the food has gotten better. I wish they would serve a dinner salad with the meal because $9 is far too expensive for a side salad. I enjoy seafood and my husband, steaks. We both find the presentation marvelous. The main dinning room is quite noisy and for a more quiet different experience, try downstairs where the bar is located. Be sure to make reservations as this place gets very busy. Lovely little bistro in Bath.

The hanger steak was extremely tough in texture with a fairly bland brown sauce. The rosemary sea-salt fried potatoes had very little flavor (couldn't detect rosemary at all). The meal, in general, was lacking in flavor and the use of spices in order to complement or bring out the flavor of each dish. My date enjoyed her meal and the twin filets of beef were very tender. Great service with an abundant and attentive staff! Wonderful live jazz! The music was better than the meal, in my opinion.

My wife wanted to go to Solo Bistro for her birthday. Knowing that they had live jazz that night, we asked to be seated in a different part of the restaurant (we're not jazz fans). They first were going to accommodate us by seating us downstairs by the bar, but when we arrived, we were notified that there was a party of 10 down there with several kids, and that we might be happier upstairs. It was very thoughtful. Of course, the food was fantastic, as was the service. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
