A word from Solera Restaurant
Housed in a comfortable midtown brownstone, the restaurant occupies two floors, with a capacity for 115 people. Each dining room evokes a warm, intimate feeling and reflects the colors and images of Spain accented by a display of contemporary art. Party space is available in two locations within the restaurant; the "Patio" room, enclosed for year-round use and accommodating a maximum of 16 people and the "Salon", located on the second floor with a capacity for 40. Solera's cuisine has traditional roots and explores the primary flavors found in Spanish cooking. Whether you choose to enjoy Tapas, Paella or the Main Courses Solera offers its guests a taste of Spain in an authentic, yet contemporary manner. Solera's Wine List is exclusively Spanish. It is 'value priced' and reflects Spain's many diverse geographical regions. Additionally, they offer approximately 15-20 wines by the glass, and twenty-five Sherries and Montillas that form a perfect compliment to its regional cuisineContinued

Diner Reviews
  • "Small family reunion where tapas menu gave lots of flexibility. Quality was very good and service was good"

  • "The ambiance and service was great but we all ordered paella and the seafood was small and barely there with lots of soggy rice. The appetizers were great. We all ordered wine and the little carafes were so small that we each had 3 glasses which is something I never do. The bill was $400 for the 4 of us - too much considering we all ate a plate of rice for dinner. It's too bad because I loved the look of the place."

  • "We had Sangria and Tapas and we were very very satisfied. We are visiting NYC and are a little tired of the loud restaurants. This one is a nice, quiet place you can enjoy food and conversation. We will come here again."

  • "The food was much better than I expected. Great choices and variety of things to pick from. It was a Monday night so it was pretty quiet and we sat at the bar to eat. Excellent Rosa Cava Sangria. I would definitely go back!"

  • "We have been here before...real, attentive professional waiters...know the food, know the wines..This is not an inexpensive place but it is authentic (although the chimichurri definitely had too much garlic)"

  • ". . . but Solera was nothing special - the food was quite tasty (the cheese course and glass of port was a very nice desert selection we did. The sangria was nice - not a fruit filled as I like, but good. Other than for the convenience of its location - it being around the corner from where my friend worked and where I was also on business that day - and since it was frightfully cold we didn't want to walk too far for dinner of two old friends, I probably won't go back. There are just too many other places as good if not better in all of NYC."

  • "We wanted something different and fun, and we found it! We started with tapas, all of which were delicious, enjoyed a paella (most if which I had to pack up as the tapas were quite filling), and left some room for exquisitely beautiful and delicious desserts. A perfect evening!"

  • "Have visited several times over the years and find this a good restaurant, better than most, that has always satisfied. We recently visited with guests and the meal and service were spot on adding to a very pleasant night out. Reasonable prices and good food, service will keep us coming back..."

  • "No nos ha gustado la cena. No nos ha parecido una buena representación de la comida española."

  • "We had dinner at Solera on Saturday night and the overall experience was ok, not great! We ordered paella which was overcooked and nothing special. The service was ok not great."

  • "Extensive food choices, tasty wine and beer selections. Frequented by business executives in the neighborhood. Ambiance is one of diners enjoying a gustatory delight quietly tucked away from the bustling metropolis outside. From appetizers to dessert, the presentation is notable, and the service attentive and unobtrusive."

  • "Do not waste your time at Solera. The food was mediocre and forgettable. The service was fine and the ambiance was meh. Spend your money elsewhere."

  • "Solera was a nice Spanish restaurant between 2nd and 3rd avenues in east midtown. We walked past it several times and decided to make rez on a Monday nite. The food was authentic and tasty. Good cheese and cured meat selection. Relaxed atmosphere with a blend of families, business persons and tourists (like ourselves) with a pleasant ambiance. Plus we were treated and served as if we were locals. After some of the high end places we had ventured earlier on our stay, there was no sticker shock with the tab. We would return on our next trip and obviously recommend to others."

  • "On a recent trip to NYC, we discovered that a family favorite for old world Spanish cuisine had closed. Thanks to Open Table, we found Solera and are so pleased we can't wait for another opportunity to eat there again. The paella was a winner and went beautifully with the tempranillo our server had recommended. The dessert sampler was the perfect way to end an excellent meal."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed Solera Restaurant & will happily return. It was vibrant enough to feel festive but quiet enough to enjoy conversing with dining companions. The food was tasty and the service impeccable. Our server, Fernando, was knowledgeable about the food & wine. He was also patient in providing info about dishes or ingredients with which we were not familiar."

  • "4 people and no agreement. 2 had cold food which should have been served hot. 2 did not. 2 had Paella which wasn't the usual and didn't like it, 1 had Paella with noodles and liked it. Some had their food served early, others waited. No consensus. Too loud with everyone crowded into one section of the restaurant, while the bar area with tables was empty and quiet. Can't understand this restaurant., and would not go back."

  • "This is a lovely Spanish restaurant. The food is very authentic as compared to what we had in Spain. I really appreciated that the servers were very attentive to my nut allergy and made sure I was aware of what food contained nuts. I find that in many places, the servers are a little too casual and don't pay enough attention throughout the meal. The menu has a wonderful selection of Spanish specialties including paella and fideua. The patatas bravas and gazpacho were excellent. Great find!"
