My wife and I were very disappointed with our food. We ordered two tapas (the crab stuffed avocado and the ceviche) and the Valenciana paella. The crab stuffed avocado was tasty. The civeche, on the other hand, was comprised totally of unidentifiable white fish, the texture poor and it was a boring dish. The paella was by far the biggest disappointment. The rice was undercooked and soggy and did not have enough saffron seasoning. The chicken was not seasoned at all and I was surprised to find it to be very fatty. The muscles didn't taste fresh. The whole plate lacked flavor. Perhaps if it were a $10 dish instead of $24 we wouldn't be so harsh. Our only praise was the generous portion provided.

Great ambience with in a very romantic setting. The presentation of the food was very creative and colorful. All dishes were tasty and well prepared. The waitress was not that great and at one point when I needed something I saw her sitting at a table over in the corner engrossed in a conversation. I had repeatedly wave to her and wave my napkin to get her attention. I had also requested a special dessert as the ending to a romantic birthday dinner and was assured the chef would create something special. When the waitress came over to take our dessert order, the "chef's special creation" never arrived and I was very disappointed.

I would not normally have gone to this restauarant, but it was Sunday and other possible choices were closed. As it turned out, Solea was an excellent choice. Marvelous, imaginative selection of hot and cold tapas. I had spinach and artichoke fritters which were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and delectable. This was followed by a quail in a delicious fruit sauce. An unordered dish of collard greens with pine nuts was also excellent. There are lots of enticing choices on the menu.

We went for lunch on a quiet Saturday. The food was very good, except for an uninspired crabmeat avacado thing. Needed more spicing. Everything else was DELICIOUS. It was quiet, but I can see how this place could be a loud fun tapas bar with a few more folks in it.

A wonderful surprise. parking was easy in public lot 1 block away. decor lovely. plenty of room between tables. Latin music subtle. Food delicious and well-presented. Fun to have Spanish and Portugese wines, rioja 2004 delicious. Might have been nice to have option of tequila but it was actually a good reminder that this is a Spanish/South American restaurant not Mexican. Flan was perfect. Chocolate tart a little dry.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 11/22/2008
If you enjoy Spanish tapas food, Solea is a must to experience. My group of 8 friends all enjoyed the food we shared. We had quite a few small hot and cold tapas and two dinner entrees and split them. There is something for everyone. We had vegetarians, meatarians, and a Japanese friend who does not like cheese or cream. Everyone loved the selections, and it's fun to try many types of dishes. We shared four desserts that were all yummy, from the creamy rice pudding, grainy chocolate cake, banana caramel cheesecake and the fruit crepe. The Sangria and wine selection is wonderful. Great service, fun bar scene. A hot spot for a good time!

My friends and I had a wonderful time! Our server (unfortunately, I don't remember his name) was excellent! He helped us pick a great wine and the perfect food to go with it. It's always a little tricky, with tapas, to know how much food to order. The server was extremely helpful in advising us on serving sizes. Everything was delicious!

Wine service was poor considering we paid $25 for corkage. The glasses were severely unequal. The food lacked the brightness I expect from Spanish cuisine. Deserts were unremarkable, the best was the cheese plate. For Moody Street, you better step it up a notch or you won't get the return clientele.

    Dined on 11/8/2008
Solea is my favorite meeting place. The decor makes it feel like every table is intimate. Don't worry if the restaurant is hoppin' the noise level is never overwhelming. As we only order a few dishes at a time the table is never too crowded. The food is always well done - I've never ordered anything that I didn't enjoy. My favorite is the little fried potatoes with the aoili sauce. The red sangria goes down smoothly and is the perfect compliment to the different dishes. Sometimes it can be a little hard to find your server but tapas is about sitting back and relaxing so I never stress out and he eventually wanders by. This is not a place to grab a "quick" bite to eat. Plan on spending time here and it will be worth your time.

This was our second time to Solea. The food was very good but the restaurant is very, very noisey...they need some carpets on the floor or on the walls. The service was very disappointing...our server forgot my wife's salad as well as my second glass of wine. We'll probably go back but only if we're in the neighborhood.

We have been to Solea a few times while visiting my daughter at Brandeis. The food is great, the restaurant is beautiful. The one drawback is that it is difficult to navigate the menu with a group larger than 4. We were 6 people on Saturday night. The portions, because it is tapas, are meant to be small. However, it is difficult and sometimes awkward when you have to divide a chicken empanada that is about 2 inches. The waiter was happy to bring more food when we saw the size of some plates and needed to get enough to go around. It is amazing how quickly the bill can climb that way! I strongly recommend the artichoke and spinch fritters. Although I didn't have any, the rest of my table was not thrilled with the banana cheesecake.

Food was top notch. Not a complaint on anything from the bread to the six tapas we ordered. Service was excellent as well. Decor very appealing and comfortable. Close quarters, so not a private romantic experience. Main dining room lighting is a little too bright for my liking for dinner, but the bar area and front room dining are better. I will definitely visit again.

Like most tapas places has excellent variety of foods for vegetarians. For veggies that sometimes eat fish, their cold salmon tapas ("Tostones") on plantain chips w/salsa chutney is fantastic. Desserts leave something to be desired. Their banana cheesecake tastes like nothing in particular but particularly nothing good. The crepe with berries and caramel sauce is decent but ends up more as "a pile of caramel sauce with some crepe and berries too." Overall the food is excellent with a great wine list and wine by the glass that is good, not just 'cheap seconds.' Highly recommended.

We went their as a group and brought my 19 month old son. The food was good. We just kept ordering various tapas dishes till we got full. Our waiter was OK, we were on the dining side on a Saturday afternoon so it was quiet compared to the bar side so I think the waiter was just busier over there and forgot about us every once in awhile. This was not a large issue though since they were all pleasant. I would go back. The only thing to keep in mind that if you are going in a group that it can get a bit pricey with the tapas dishes and everyone should agree up front that they are going to split the check evenly or you will never be able to figure it out. It you are going with people who are price conscious you may want rethink it.
