As every plate came we jumped in and absolutely loved it. One tapas was better than the next. The Plato de Embutidos assortment of meats was impressive and tasty. Boquerones fresh anchovies were really great! The chicken livers (Higadillos de Pollo) were outstanding as was the Palta Reina stuffed avacado. In fact, nothing was even vaguely ordinary. Solea is one of our favorite restaurants, and it is always a great dining experience. The food is fantastic. Great decor, good service. The food and service are always excellent. This time, I was just a bit disappointed in the initial service. I was greeted by two very nice hostesses who seated me while I waited for my friend to arrive. I was surprised that no one came to offer water or drinks for at least 10 minutes while I waited. I felt ignored. Finally, the waiter did ask if I wanted something to drink. After that, the service was good, though the waiter was not quite as personable as most of the waitstaff there usually are. We shared all kinds of interesting tapas and there was even enough for the vegetarian in our group.But the room was very noisy and sometimes that can detract from the experience. The sangria was very special and we all enjoyed that. The food is really good and different. It is a fun place to go with four or more people as you can get a variety of tastes of many interesting dishes. The tables are not too close to one another, which is a plus. The wait staff was very attentive and answered our questions well. The dishes were all tasty. I was pleased they took a reservation - that makes a big difference to us these days as we will not go to restaurant on a weekend night if we have to wait a long time for a table. My only hesitation in going more often is the cost. The dinner cost adds up quickly, particularly if everyone has a drink. It's nice for special occasions, though.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great Night OutOur second trip to Solea was as wonderful as the first. The tapas and paella Valenciana were outstanding. The red and white Sangiria are of the best around. Having experienced a rather stoic gentleman as our main server the first time, we were surprised with a bubbly young woman who went out of her way to make sure we had everything we wanted, including the time to enjoy our meal and our family. We have been to several Tapas restaurantes and Solea definitely ranks in the top 3! The food was incredible (Short ribs, artichokes, and sizzling shrimp were very yummy) and the ambiance great! Loved the open air feel with all the windows open to the street. Very fun and memorable experience. We will definitely be back! There was heavy traffic on the way in, and my parents were 15 minutes late. The restaurant was not concerned and were completely accommodating, even on the holiday. We then spent nearly two hours eating, and we were never rushed. The food was fantastic - I will most definitely go back! The first time we ate at this restaurant was to celebrate my daughter's college graduation, and it was the perfect place for this special occasion. We recently returned when we were in the area on Mother's Day. The food and service are excellent. My only criticism would be that I have been to several other tapas restaurants with equally enjoyable menu selections at a fraction of the price. At $9 to $10 per item, the bill runs up quickly - the waitress suggested 2 to 3 selections per person (the plates are quite small) and we found that 2 per person was not enough. We used to live in Waltham when it opened and have since moved 40+ minutes away. We went back to celebrate my husbands birthday. ... now with children. There is no kids menu but my 8 year old liked the steak and some of the paella. My five year old enjoyed shrimp and bread. Us adults enjoyed everything from the almonds to the Sangria. We always liked the sausage with fig sauce which proved again to be a winner and the short rib (yum) tasted as if it was slow roasting all day. The paella I thought was underwhelming, but overall a very good experience. I guess it is different when you are bringing children along and going earlier in the evening on a Tuesday, lol. My date and I ordered 3 tapas dishes each... All different, and we shared. The bedt dish was the duck with berry sauce. We also got, baked goat cheese, calimari, mussels, and quail. The dessert choices wrre flan or an amazing chocolate cake. There was so much food, both of us became full midway through and he brought the mussels home.
