Diner Reviews
  • "Went for our anniversary, Friday at 7pm. Fresh warm bread when you sit down, great. Bruschetta appetizer was huge and really good. We had the filet and the pork chop. Both had great flavor, were cooked perfectly, and came out hot. Not much in the way of vegetables/sides with your entree...they were more for flavor and visual interest than actual "sides". I don't think there was any background music. Place was crowded though, with lots of lively conversation. I wouldn't say there was a lot of "ambiance"...maybe more on a quiet weeknight. Restaurant is mostly one large dining room, front wall is all windows looking out on street/outdoor seating. Server was nothing to write home about. App + 2 entrees + water to drink + tax = $70"

  • "We meet friends for dinner on August 16. The guys raved about the gnocchi and me and my girlfriend were just as pleased with a salmon entree and pasta entree. The waiter was very personable, helpful and attentive. We were on a tight time frame and he took care of us without making us feel rushed. I even had a Groupon to use and we didn't get the cool shoulder you can sometimes get when a waiter or waitress thinks they won't get tipped as much. We asked a favor from the manager and he was very nice and accommodating too! The only thing that I can think of that wasn't positive.....I think the bottles of wine are a little on the pricey side. We've eaten at Sole Mio several times and it remains consistent with great food and service!"

  • "We booked reservations the day of through the Marriott Renassiance. We had a party of 9 girls for a bachelorette party. We heard great things about the food. Once we got there, we didn't wait long to be helped. The server was very nice although not extremely attentive. Our food came out very quickly and was tasty! However, we were placed in one of two rooms and were the only party in that room. Additionally, there wasn't any music or background noise so it was very quiet when we were all eating. I thought the prices were a bit high as well for the food/service we received."

  • "This was our first time donning here. Was our anniversary so we were expecting a special dining experience. Were not disappointed. The food and service were both great. It will definitely remain on the short list for special occasions."

  • "We really enjoyed the service and the food was exceptional. The restaurant could be a little livelier but some enjoy Quiet. Overall great place. We will revisit and have told several friends"

  • "Simply the best place to dine prior to the Nashville 4th of July fireworks show. You get vallet parking at a quaint Italian restaurant that is well decorated with good food and great service. You can eat on the porch and watch the fireworks from your table while eating desert and leave in time to miss the traffic bog as you are just a few blocks from the interstate. It is our families yearly tradition which will continue for years to come."

  • "Actually chose Sole Mio because we could valet park at the restaurant, have dinner, then take in the fireworks and downtown activities and return to the restaurant to retrieve our vehicle afterward. Third Avenue location very convenient to Broadway and Market St. The four of us enjoyed the bruchetta and calamari appetizers before our main courses. Like Sole Mio's idea for choosing either their listed main courses, or pairing your choice of pasta, sauce and meat accompaniment. The wine list is not overly extensive, and the least expensive glass is $9. The delicious chocolate cake dessert ($9) was sufficient to sate the sugar crave for the four of us. James did a knowledgeable job of serving us without us without being intrusive."

  • "Not sure why they left their last location, with a beautiful view overlooking the city--I'm aware I don't know the details behind that so I can't hold that against them :). I am someone who really doesn't mind paying top dollar (on occasion) for great food. However, my pet peeve is expensive food for the sake of being expensive. Bottom line is, the food was OK but not worth the price. Server meant well but was simply not very attentive. We might go back, but not before trying others restaurants for a while."

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Sole Mio before a performance at the Schermerhorn. They take reservations, have valet parking, have your table ready, the menu is adequate as is the wine list, and you make it to the performance on time."

  • "Sole Mio has been on the Nashville scene now for nearly 20 years. Family owned and authentic, I was concerned that this downtown Italian staple might be overshadowed by all the newcomers on the block, especially since the newcomers are good in their own right. I was not disappointed! This is a restaurant for the unhurried. Hand prepared and made to order, this Nashville Icon still holds it's own. To truly enjoy your dining experience, allow 1 1/2 to 2 hours to truly enjoy. (The shareable bruschetta this time was insanely delicious and we left room for the most decadent white chocolate cheesecake made by man)"

  • "Food bland [Chef Boy-Ardee] tastless. Absolutely no ambience. Will not return, too many excellent restaurants in Nashville to dine at."

  • "Food is overpriced and not good. Service was bad. Waited nearly 20 minutes for water and 35 minutes for someone to take order. Restaurant smelled like burned eggplant. Awful. $100 for two people to eat there."

  • "There wasn't one quality that stood out when we went for dinner on a Friday night. Service was slow and impersonal, the calamari appetizer was tasteless and dry, the Caesar salad was horrid, and the pasta sauces were unappealing and drowned the fresh pasta. Wait - I do remember 2 good things- the bread was delicious and the pasta was obviously freshly made. But don't bother to go just for that."

  • "We've eaten at Sole Mio for several years it is a great place before attending any show in downtown Nashville. The new menu is very good and the service is always outstanding. Wine selection is very good. We'll be back."

  • "Sole Mio is the place to go in Nashville for authentic Italian cuisine. If you're looking for great food in a nice environment, especially before seeing a show at the nearby Ryman or Bridgestone Arena (both within walking distance), Sole Mio is an ideal choice. One of our favorite spots in Nashville."

  • "Joe, the General Mgr, was very involved with our service. He took both of our special orders, and both were top notch, and beautifully presented! Their bread is amazing! Great place to celebrate a special event! Sweet service. Molto delicioso food!! Altho Tiramisu a bit blah for me; I ll try another dessert next time."

  • "I had the lobster Ravioli and the pasta was chewy and the contents were warm not hot. I assume that had they been cooked a little longer they would have been great. The other entree was linguini and again the pasta was undercooked. The waiter was very pleasant."

  • "First time visiting Sole Mio with my family. Took our waiter's recommendations for appetizers and entree. Bruschetta had a marvelous flavor and the calamari is some of the best I've had. Fresh pasta made in house was fantastic. I had the lobster ravioli- outstanding. My wife had the lasagna- superb! Anthony our waiter made an outstanding wine recommendation that paired well with both. Deserts are also made in-house and were to die for! Highly recommend this Resturant!"

  • "Thanks to our server who patiently waited for our 5th person to arrive after her flight was delayed for an hour. We were able to enjoy the ambiance and make good use of the time. I'm sorry I didn't write down her name - she was very gracious."

  • "We were going to the Ryman and this was so convenient. The food was great and the old style Italian ambiance was great. They let us stay in their parking lot, so we didn't have the hassle of finding another spot to go to the show. It is very near the Honky Tonks, just a short walk to everything. Loved it."

  • "We enjoyed our visit, and the server was excellent. My only complaint regards portion sizes and cost. I specifically asked if the linguine portion was a lot and the server responded with a resounding YES. Upon arrival...it was such a very small serving, that I had to rotate two-three strands around the fork and eat slowly to "make it last". I have a pet peeve when it comes to pasta servings---really, how much does it cost to serve more past? Thank goodness I had a Groupon or it would have made me very upset."

  • "Sole Mio is always a great choice for good Italian food. service and atmosphere conveniently located to all the activities and fun of riverfront Nashville. It's our go-to place for out-of-town guests and it never disappoints. We dine there often and recommend it to others."

  • "Total disappointment. Pictures looked good, menu okay, expensive for Italian. But... Had no idea what veal saltimbocca is nor did they know how to make meatballs or arrabiata sauce. The first, came with chicken not veal, chopped up veggies on top, little to no sage or prosciutto. Meatballs were dry to be I edible. Sauce was all red pepper and when told to the waiter, he shrugged and walked away. Tiramisu was dried out, cannolis tough and dry. Wine average. And a bill for almost 275. Horror show."

  • "Overall, our experience was great. The waiter was courteous and the food was delicious. However, we were waiting for a hostess for over 10 mintues. If we had not made the reservation we would have left. When we finally found (yes we had to search for her) she took us to our table without asking for our name or if we had reservations. So if the restaurant owner wants to know how well Open Table Works for it they may have trouble. It would look like we never showed up when we did! She also left a larger party (who arrived before us) unattended to. The restaurant was lovely but they need to train the hostess."

  • "Sole Mio is our spot before concerts we attend. We were very disappointed in the food. Never had a bad dinner until Friday evening. Lasagna is our favorite item. Pasta were tough and not much flavor. Not what normally experience."

  • "Sole Mio used to be my favorite restaurant. Since they changed management and chef, it's not very good!!! I was there a few months ago, food tasted good, but was room temperature at best. And the service was amazingly slow. But I always try to give a place another chance. This time my food was burnt! I had gnocchi that was burnt, mushy and room temperature! I will NOT be going back."

  • "We have been going to this restaurant for years. While the wait staff remain delightful, the food has really changed. I think too much attention is being paid to visual presentation and not enough to flavor; I have never had bland food at this restaurant before! Additionally, I think the removal of the seafood entrees and appetizers is a big mistake and left me personally with a very limited selection for dinner as I don't eat meat and the seafood special sounded far too rich for my system especially right before a symphony concert. This was our standby pre-symphony restaurant; we will have to explore others. The staff was distressed to see that we were unhappy and treated us very well. But we were there to eat. "

  • "Our dinner Saturday evening before the Nashville Symphony Concert was excellent and the service superb. This is so convenient for dining out prior to concerts at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and parking is free. The halibut special was especially delicious."

  • "Sole Mio was one of our faves 12 years ago and still is. The consistent food quality and level of service have not changed a bit! Even with a menu change, I was pleased to find many familiar dishes, along with new ones. Our group of 11 was seated promptly and our waiter, Matthew was entertaining and informative throughout the evening. When he found out we were there for my son's bachelor party he brought the table of free round of the "inhouse made" lemoncello shots. Our dish selections ranged from the perfect filet mignon, to the halibut special...and everyone was pleased with their meals. I still love the "build your own" pasta menu that allows you to select a pasta, signature sauce, & add a protein if desired. Thank you Sole Mio!"

  • "Came before symphony on a Friday night: warm welcome at the door, cheerful and solicitous service (our waitress Sarah was a gem), tastefully prepared Italian food, extensive wine list including many by the glass. Overall a delightful evening, and we shall sure come again."

  • "This is the first time that I've made a reservation on open table and the food was terrible. We started with the calamari, no flavor, flour with no seasoning. We ordered pollo piccata and veal piccata, both looked the same - again no flavor - paprika sprinkled on both dises. Veal and chicken seemed to be old/ dry... The server was excellent, we won't be back... "

  • "Six of us dined at Sole Mio recently. Two of us had been there several times previously and this was the first time for the others. This also was the first time we had experienced the new menu. We had read mixed reviews lately, which was surprising because we always have had a good experience. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Our server was professional and appropriately attentive. The only drawbacks were a mix-up in the type of pasta one person ordered, and the trout (special) was a bit dry. Otherwise, everything was delicious. We will return to Sole Mio."

  • "We go to Sole Mio frequently. Usually we can find things on the menu that we want to eat. This time, both my husband and I had a hard time finding something to eat off the menu. I ended up ordering two appetizers. They were very good. He ordered a salad and linguini . I think we were just disappointed that the spinach manicotti was not on the menu."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary at Sole Mio. When I made the reservation I noted that it was a special evening. The owner and his wife set aside a perfect table next to the window (great view of the pedestrian bridge). They came over and wished us a Happy Anniversary. The waiter was very familiar with the food and made great recommendations. The Bruschetta Flatbread and the Carpaccio (melts in your mouth) was a great way to start. For dinner, I had Melanzane Parmigianno my husband had Lobster Ravioli. I totally recommend Sole Mio to anyone who loves Italian. They are open for lunch and it would be a great place to take work clients or a fun night out! They also offer valet parking which is always a plus!"

  • "We used to eat here whenever we went to a concert. This time the food was terrible! Rubbery chicken and watered tuna. Service and ambience were great, but they need a new chef!"

  • "We were seated immediately, and the service was great. The new menu included creative Italian options as well as basic Italian favorites. Our group members felt it was a place we would return to any time we felt like great Italian food."

  • "We expected a buffet brunch--something like the Omni/Hermitage. Should have researched better to avoide disappointment. Menu was very limited & did not offer much variety. Each entrée was very simple with nothing extra. The eggs came with a side of polenta, but no meat. No meat! Another egg dish came w/pancetta mixed in, but it was hard to find or taste. The waitress was kind to consult with the chef and we were permitted to order from the regular menu. We ordered the meatball appetizer and it was good. There seemed to be no recognition, based on the menu, that it was a special day. No complimentary champagne. No rose. The waitress acknowledged the day, but we thought the menu could have been a little more elaborate for this occasion. "
