  • "My wife is a vegetarian, and I'm not. Solbar has a great balance of lighter and richer dishes, and a lot of vegetarian dishes. My wife started with the chopped salad, which was almost too pretty to eat. Almost. I decided to start off with a pork belly appetizer, which was the best pork belly dish I've had, and smartly plated. For main courses, we both went with vegetarian dishes and both were great. I skip vegetarian dishes when dining out, but I was glad I didn't. For dessert, one was just good and the other was great, and we shared each. Our server was quite friendly and helpful throughout, and helped with suggestions. All in all our only regret is that since we're on vacation, we can't put Solbar into our regular dining rotation."

Not only are the choices original, but the layering of flavors is achieved with a conceptual harmony in each dish. The result is a series of menu options that engage the palette on multiple levels without resorting to a dissonance of flavors. For lunch, the petrale sole tacos are exceptional, as is the duck sandwich. For dinner, be sure to order the peaches and the pork belly appetizers. Any entrée will please you."

  • "Solage Calistoga is not to be missed. Had lunch there last Friday. Had a reservation and was seated quickly with a choice of indoor or outside. The ambiance was great and the service even better. Our waiter, sorry I don't remember his name, went out of his way to explain the menu, making suggestions, if asked, regarding dishes. I even asked if they had relish for a slider. The waiter returned and indicated there was no relish, but he could cut up some pickles and make the relish. Now that is service. Just an example of the level of attention and desire to please the customer. I highly recommend this place, as the service and the food was exceptional."

  • "Went to Solbar after reading reviews and was not disappointed. We dined outdoors and our service was prompt and pleasant. Very nice wine selection which I would expect for Calistoga, able to taste before purchase which was a nice treat. We asked for a speciality coffee after dinner and the machine was broken so received regular coffee at no charge. Would definitely visit again."

We had to wait a long time for someone to approach us, when he saw we had our own wine for corkage he left immediately w/ the wine/drink list.We wanted to order mixed drinks so we got up to get the wine list. That seemed to catch the attention of a supervisor who came over, got us water, wine glasses, took our drink orders.A woman then introduced herself as our server. We thought all would be well. We were wrong. She kept disappearing & not coming out for long times, took a long time to take our order,never came by when the food was served to check on us, we did not have salt/pepper on so we picked them up from nearby table,dishes sat a long time when we were finished. The food was delicious."

Memorable food -- even the vegetarian dishes were interesting and engaging. There were five of us and each of us was amazed at the quality of each course. The offering of reasonably-priced flights of wine was just perfect -- a tasting approach to a tasting oriented menu. Creative, fascinating, and lots of fun."

  • "We always have lunch here. My favorite is the fish tacos (fantastic). My husband loves the pulled pork sliders---which unfortunately they only serve at the pool nowadays :(. He wish they had made exception. He had the the jyro- good flavor, but very little meat.. Too much lettuce."

  • "I have dined here many times. The food is great & the outdoor seating near the pool is a nice feature. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. But the front of the house person was not very friendly or accommodating. We asked for outdoor seating but ours was the only party seated inside. When we pointed out a couple of empty table outside, they told us that they were reserved, although we had a reservation as well. We were told that you have to make a special request for outdoor seating. After about 15 minutes of sitting inside, we noticed more empty table outside, so asked the front of house person again if we may sit outside, and they finally accommodated us when it was obvious that there were several empty tables to say no."

  • "but this lunch, for my Mom's birthday, reallly sucked. We waited over 10 minutes for a table to be set up for 6 people. There were plenty of tables and should have been ready for us. Our waitress took drink orders / didn't come back for 15 minutes - without the entire drink order. Those without drinks waited another 20 minutes and I had to finally go inside to see what the hell was going on. No tableware set ups and had to ask and wait for sugar for tea, salt/ pepper, water/ice, we made 8-10 requests for basics. Lunches were good (chicken) & really weak (chicken sandwich) I asked for birthday dessert, I had to chase down the waitress to get it going - and ask for the check b/c we didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for it."

  • "We got there for brunch on a Sunday. All the food was absolutely delicious and the cocktails were so good, probably the best cocktails I had ever. We got the tasty beet salad to share as a start and got the Lucky Pig for two. I don't like much pork but I was curious to try it and I am glad I did. It was so tender and so tasty with all the. For cocktails we tried: blushing bubble, spicy flamenco, summer mint meadow; there were all perfectly done-great amount of everything. The service was really good too. Great experience."

The gorgeous backdrop of a spa (seems as if it's in the middle of a desert) provides the most relaxing atmosphere in the Napa Valley. As it is quite busy we were able to make a reservation for an early dinner (sun was still on the sky) - I guess it would have been far more scenic in the evening light. The dollarhide ranch brittany lane peaches with prosciutto san daniele, parmigiano mousse charred onions, lavender honey vinaigrette was amazing. For the main courses we had house made ricotta and herb agnolotti and seared loin and confit shoulder of sonoma lamb - both exceeded our expectations. Service was very good, professional and made our experience even better with the wine suggestions. Would definitely love to return for more!"

  • "Julian tk exclnt care of us. It was a toss-up of whether to sit in or out & I made the choice to sit out. Having been in the cool car driving from SF for 2 hours, the outside initially felt good.When we came to dessert, we asked if we could move inside and Julian was very accommodating and with pleasure. Once we sat down, we realized nobody was really hungry for dessert but we ordered a few to share about and all were happy. The concern once inside, however, were the aggressive houseflies. So, after all, having lunch outside was the right choice...just under the trees may have been better the canopy/awning. In the end, Julian was willing to work with us for whatever our needs (even if that mean pool-side guac being brought to the tbl)."
