Diner Reviews
  • "We really like the atmosphere, the apps where our favorite, all the food was interesting and very good. Service was friendly. Only thing I would have liked improved was the mojito I had. I've had better. I wish I would have known that the tasty single ice cream scoop was so small."

  • "I consider myself as a foodie, but I don't know how I hadn't dined at this place up until past Wednesday. It's absolutely an awesome place for foodies."

  • "Really liked the different preparation (not boring or traditional) and that the choices were relatively healthy. Good for vegetarians but had many meat options. Good portion size (not huge) so can try all courses! All the meals had interesting flavors and preparation. Recommend the salmon. Despite having to go indoors (colder) due to a sudden major downpour had a great dinner. Staff and waiter very attentive and helpful."

  • "The food and service are absolutely top notch. My only complaint is the noise level in Sola. But it certainly didn't detract from our experience."

  • "great ingredients, great preparations. fish dishes especially great. only wish there were a bit of bread on the table, not just crackers."

  • "For entree we tried duck breast, lamb chop, short rib--all tasted fantastic! Deserts are tasty as well!! Strongly recommend this place"

  • "I have been to Sola many times and never been disappointed. The food is outstanding. The servers/service is great. My only complaint would be the snotty hostesses who time after time seem to find their job superior to seating a customer. The cocktail and wine list is outstanding, the food changes with the seasons, but the fish is always fresh. Sola is one of the restaurants I always recommend taking a special friend to."

  • "Had a wonderful experience and we always enjoy the ambiance not to mention the Tuna poke always!"

  • "This was my fourth or fifth time at Sola, and it didn't disappoint. It's consistently great, upscale food and wine. The service is top notch, with our server helping us to choose the best meal as well as how to order it cooked. Prices are a bit high, but well worth it. Go for a special occasion or celebration if you need to justify spending about $75/person. Dishes we've loved: Hangar steak (medium), Wagyu burger, salmon; Small plates to try: gnocchi, kalua pork, scallops."

  • "Had a great dinner with my family here the other night. Ordered a bunch of appetizers, the burger and the duck breast, three desserts. Every thing was delicious. Ordered a couple of cocktails and really enjoyed them. My kids ordered a couple drinks off the drink menu (virgin) and pretty cool. Our waiter was, Devin, was great. Overall we had a wonderful meal with great service. Thank you!"

  • "The food and service are excellent! We have never been disappointed with either and Carol, the owner, takes great pride in keeping a consistent level of service and creative cuisine."

  • "Why doesn't this place get more buzz? It's not the new kid in town anymore, but Sola consistently delivers delicious food with interesting Hawaii-influenced flavors."

  • "We loved the blend of Asian spices with top quality ingredients. Excellent wine, beer and cocktail too. A very enjoyable experience overall."

  • "Sola is our go to restaurant in the neighborhood. Food and service is always great. Recent brunch included tempura French toast, the best donuts in town and mamosa. Sat outside for father's day at Sola was just what the Dr ordered."

  • "Always excellent food at Sola. I get the tuna every time and I am not disappointed. Great appetizers, too."

  • "Carol has exemplified the perfect cuisine for fresh products resulting in interesting & exciting flavors of current American cuisine with a touch of the 50th state. Cocktail and drink list had a variety for all tastes and were rather imaginative. Service was attentive and pleasant. All in all a great evening out."

  • "Only a few blocks from our house, we're glad that Sola is so convenient. We've been going there since they opened and every visit pleases. "Consistency" may not sound like the most glamorous way to describe a restaurant but when that restaurant has excellent food, friendly and helpful service and a welcoming atmosphere it is an appropriate compliment. I took a friend on this visit who had never been there before and he really enjoyed it. That's been a consistent experience as well. Well done!"

  • "A little disappointed. The reviews for this place were so good, but my veggie burger was ok (not sure if it was me or the burger but the bun and patty didn't taste that great, didn't eat too much of it and I'm not picky) and the fries were a bit salty and got softer and softer by the second. The dip was ok, Nordstrom cafe fries so far are still one of the best truffle fries I've had. The service was great and ambiance is relaxing and nice."

  • "great food, service and wine list. Second time at this restaurant and it was just as good as the first time"

  • "This was our third or fourth visit to Sola. Love the fresh seafood selections and inventive salads. Desserts also a standout. My only criticism, which is minor, is that the the halibut special and brussels sprouts sides were a bit too heavily salted. Would recommend a lighter touch on salt all around. Otherwise a great meal (conveniently located across the street from the American Theater Company)."

  • "We are frequent visitors of Sola. Up until this weekend, I would say I have never had a bad meal. The service is always amazing and that was still the case this weekend. However, our 2 main dishes were not great. We always get the braised short ribs, a total winning dish that is always moist and delicious. Saturday night it was dry and pretty disappointing. The panko crusted tuna was good but nothing amazing. Like I said, we always sing the praises of this restaurant and chef but seemed to be an off night. We will try again."

  • "First off let me start off saying food was delicious and our server was excellent too. Started with drinks and the Poke. Halibut special for me and hangar steak for my husband. Devon our server was attentive, informative and patient (especially while finishing dessert and drinks). Problem for me was when I entered the restaurant and was greeted with blank stare from hostess and made to feel like an intrusion. Really bad. Should take lessons from Trattoria 10 (where I ate last night) where hostess greeted us with grace and pure attention. I don't care if I'm spending $20.00 or $200.00 that beginning sets vibe for whole night. "

  • "I was a little skeptical about Sola because I wasn't thrilled about the menu but with a Groupon decided to experiment. Absolutely delicious! We had the short ribs and duck (2 of their signature dishes) and can't praise them enough. Plus, the service was friendly and excellent. They were busy but i never had to flag someone down for anything. Will definitely be back."

  • "My bf and I eat out a lot and this is by far one of our favorite places. We have been here at least 10x in the past yr. The food is consistently delicious. The cobia has been my favorite but recently replaced with the in season halibut which I'm ashamed to admit was so delicious, I could have licked my plate clean. My boyfriend enjoys the hangar steak which he says is always cooked perfectly. We always order the steak tartare (thank god you brought the bread back) and the brussel sprout leaves are the perfect add on to any meal and you MUST try them. Pete has been our waiter several times and my bf thinks he's the best waiter in the city. "There when you need him and gone when you don't." He always helps me pick my dishes and he's spot on!"

  • "The food was creative and interesting. Some courses better than others. Overpriced in many areas, including a $7 one scoop of bland ice cream we sent back. Waiter attitude when doing that was not very pleasant. Three small appetizers, one burger, one order split of halibut and three glasses of wine......... $150! Plan on spending at least $100 for two. Would not return simply because it was overpriced and not that exceptional."

  • "Sola is great for brunch. They have some of the best chilaquiles ever. I've been for dinner as well, and if you do it up right it can be more of a special occasion place. The food is always amazing."

  • "The place was right across the street from The American theatre, and we parked a block away without having to pay on a Sat. night. Although the food is Hawaiian themed, it was particularly influenced by nouvelle and Asian fusion cuisine. We especially loved the steak tartare, raw tuna terrine and the home made sorbets/ice creams. Definitely would return, though it is not as inexpensive as the neighborhood might suggest! The only downside was that our main server got sidetracked by what appeared to be customers she knew personally and we had to finally ask the hostess to request that she return to take our dessert order and request our check, but everyone else there seemed quite attentive and friendly."

  • "It's always a joy to dine at Sola. It's just got a great calming environment with a super creative and beautiful menu - great cocktail creations, amazing flatbread on the table - and the nicest staff ever! We find it to be the "go to" place before theatre and recommend it regularly. Our party of 5 had 2 folks who were first-timers - and they were knocked out with goodness! Mahalo!"

  • "I am never disappointed with Sola Carol does an outstanding job, only wish she was closer to my "hood". I took my son in law there for his birthday. Both entrees were superb! We ordered the lamb chops and the halibut special that night. Sola is a sure bet for a wonderful dinner."

  • "Check this place out if you like great hawaiian inspired food. This place has some of the best ahi Poke and crab cakes. We've tried a lot on their menu and everything is really good. Their cocktails are very good as well. "

  • "Went there for brunch with a large group of friends on Sunday. Our orders covered wagyu burger, banana upside-down pancake, bacon omelet, huevos benedictos, short rib benedict, green city market omelet, and malasadas, etc. Bacon Omelet was fine, but I wouldn't say it was as good as I had anticipated, and I wish the hash browns could have been crispier. The service was great, so was the ambience. I would want to go back again for lunch or dinner."

  • "Sola is one of my new favorite restaurants! I have loved every dish I've ordered here (have been here 3 times now). My personal favorites include the salmon, duck breast, and crab cake. Sola's crab cake is the best I've ever had in my entire life!! I love this place!"
