Diner Reviews
  • "I had been here for lunch before and always enjoyed it. But the brunch menu really stands out. I can't wait to come back to try other dishes. Food was delicious and plentiful. Service was great."

  • "Always have had a great meal at Sola. The Kahlua Pork w/ Banana Bread is straight from the islands and their Seared Tuna is perfectly cooked each time."

  • "Had dinner with my parents. My father had the Ahi Tuna which was amazing, mother had Cobia and I had the catch of the day Monchong. I couldn't try my mothers because of the Miso Lobster Fumet, but my Monchong was great! We also had Steak Tartar and the must order...Brussel Sprouts and Parmesan Truffle Fries!!"

  • "The food was great. We had the Wagyu steak and the duck, as well as scallops, artichokes, and poke. All were very good. We'll definitely be back."

  • "Definitely try this place for brunch items you won't see anywhere else. I had the tempura french toast, and my husband had the huevos benedictos (chorizo over cornbread with poached eggs and spicy hollandaise). And another bonus - they take reservations for brunch!"

  • "Been here twice now, and each time we've sampled the menu by splitting an option for every course. We've yet to find a dish that disappointed."

  • "I recommend the duck entree. You don't find duck on a lot of menus. Good wine list also."

  • "Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday surprise, everything was spectacular. We had to be in and out in an hour and it wasn't a problem at all. The food was fresh & extremely tasty all while being presented beautifully! The service was unbelievable. The atmosphere was dynamic! Definitely coming back!"

  • "It's a sweet spot just off the beaten path... Perfect for date night.. A foodie's casual dinner spot.. Or a cute location for girl's night out. The service was thorough and everyone is always very friendly."

  • "We shared a few different dishes and they were all excellent. We had the Tuna Poke, Kalua Pork, Gnocchi and split a Mahi Mahi Entree. All were amazing!! To end our dinner we had an ice cream flight. Bourbon Butterscotch Pecan, Peanut Butter Black Sesame and Cinnamon Anise (Although we ordered Salted Caramel), but we still ate it. I should have bought a pint of the Bourbon and the Peanut Butter. I would definitely go back, love to try brunch!"

  • "The food was good, but a little pricey. Not quite enough food for the money. The service was excellent, and the noise level was very low. The location was excellent, with plenty of street parking. We would use this restaurant again for special occasions. Both the beef burger and vegetarian burger were very good. The duck breast was excellent but not a lot of it. The fish also was excellent and we enjoyed it a lot."

  • "Once again, my husband and I went here for dinner and everything was just wonderful from the hostess to our server to our food! Sola doesn't miss a beat and we've never had a bad meal. The poke tuna and kahlua pork appetizers are great and we have a hard time trying other appetizers each visit! And I have a hard time passing up the short ribs but everything I/we've had on the menu has been wonderful. Our server this time was one we had another time and just the nieces person! Keep doing what you're doing and glad you decided to stay and not move!"

  • "Had yet another outstanding meal at Sola. Such creative dishes, beautifully presented. Some healthy (tuna poke, mussels, salads), some oh-so-naughty (those truffle fries!) and some full on entrees that are just stunning on all levels. There's also a great cocktail menu that offers up things you just don't see other places. Make you try one (some!)!"

  • "A tad hard to find unless you live in the neighborhood once located it was nice modern decor. Staff was pleasant from start to finish! Enjoyed crab cake appetizer (full of meat!), chef specials (halibut and lamb chops), and for dessert flight of ice cream and apple bread pudding. Everything tastes good and fresh but not outstanding. I think it's a great first date location!"

  • "We hadn't been here in some time and I'm happy to report it's still as great as ever. Highly recommended."

  • "I met 3 friends here for brunch on a snowy Saturday. We were all running late, and hadn't seen each other in a while, and so our meal ran looooooong. Our server was exactly as present as was necessary - not hovering, just arriving right on time. Our food was excellent, and we really appreciated not feeling like we were going to be rushed out, as it often the case with Chicago brunches. We'll definitely be back."

  • "The food was fantastic, and our table absolutely LOVED their warm, homemade bread. My dad went nuts on it, and they kept it coming. It's a little small and gets a little loud, but it was a great experience overall. Its in Roscoe Village, so a short walk for us. We love this place and we bring guests who come to visit Chicago here any chance we get."

  • "Can't believe I didn't know about this place before. Food was delicious and inventive combinations...is that what Hawaiian food is all about? Drinks were fresh and refreshing. Definitely enjoyed it."

  • "I went here with a groupon, and we were pleasantly surprised with Sola. We had the Waygu beef tartare, the truffle fries, the oysters, a salad, and the ice cream and cookies for dessert. Overall, the ambiance was wonderful, and our waitress was so kind and genuine. The service alone gets five stars, and although the food was good (not amazing, but good), it is the service and the ambiance that will keep me coming back to Sola. Finding a place that serves good food at a reasonable price, but also provides a welcoming and warm atmosphere with excellent staff is rare. Sola achieves that."

  • "Hadn't been in a number if months but wasn't disappointed. We were seated right away by the fire and had a great meal with friends"

  • "Went with two friends on a Saturday evening. Place was packed - they could not seat us for a while even though we had reservations. They were very nice about it though. The food was excellent, the waitress very helpful and cheerful. The only down side was the NOISE. It was so loud in the restaurant that I will never again go on a Saturday night. Given the quality of the food and space they should REALLY spend some $$ adding some sound dampening materials to the decor."

  • "My first time there and definitely not my last. We did a few shared plates and everything was fantastic!"

  • "Drinks were well made. Seafood was exceptionally fresh and creatively presented. Service was enthusiastic and non-pretentious. We will be going back."

  • "I've been to Sola twice within the last 6 months or so, and that is not enough. The tuna dish is one of my favorite dishes of all time. It's one of those last meal type of dishes that I cannot get enough of. I crave it all the time, and will have to go back soon to get another fix. The servers are always amazingly friendly and attentive; you can tell they want you to have a wonderful and relaxing time. I would - and do - recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good place to go!"

  • "The food looked nice and tasted good. It was pre-made which you could tell by how quickly they brought out each course. I felt a bit rushed out of the meal. For the money, I wanted a bit more relaxing feel. Small portions which were well presented. I just didn't like the rush. Maybe it was just because we went the day after valentines day bit we wouldn't go back."

  • "food was good - not great. the Hamachi was amazing actually. the scallop starter was good, but a little too rich for me. the papaya salad was meh. and the duck confit dumplings were ok - but they were served too cold. my bf liked the short ribs a lot - he thought the gnocchi had too many greens - a man who does not like his greens:( I was honestly a bit disappointed - used to go here all the time and it's been a while since I've been back...."

  • "My group of four had an early reservation on a Saturday evening. I do recommend a reservation, because it filled up quickly not long after we arrived. The food selection was fantastic. Lots of choices with pretty reasonable prices as well. I and another from my group had a nice salmon entree. Another had the short ribs, and the other had the duck. All were prepared as requested. The first course/appetizer selection was great. I highly recommend the crab cakes. The drink and beer selection is nice. We thought the wine list could use some improvement though. We didn't save room for dessert, but I'm sure they had some good choices."

  • "Had a great meal at Sola. The mushroom salad was delicious. Our fish entrees were very tasty. The only miss was the artichoke fritter appetizer -- the coating was thick, hard and crunchy. Wouldn't order again. But everything else was great."

  • "Have dined at Sola multiple times now and everytime the food is amazing. Great brunch!"

  • "I chose this restaurant for a Saturday brunch for 5 people, mostly due to the fact that it is near my neighborhood and they take reservations (we had later plans and didn't want to get stuck waiting for a table). I had never been there before, but three of the people I was with have been there several times and always enjoyed the food. The food was very good, the service was friendly, and overall it was a nice experience. I will definitely be back, both for brunch and to try the dinner menu."

  • "Sola never disappoints. The food is always top notch, the service incredible, the atmosphere very inviting, and just a great dinner (or brunch!) out! We will continue to come back often!!"

  • "I love this restaurant! The food is fantastic, with superior service and ambiance. I recommend it to everyone I know. It has great vegetarian options as well as gluten-free choices, all of which taste wonderful."

  • "We've enjoyed Sola many times and this time it was exceptional. The shaved mushroom salad was delicious and so were all the entrees and desserts. We'll return soon."

  • "I had high expectations for this restaurant and they were exceeded. The service was friendly and attentive. I had a few small plates so I could try different dishes. All were creative preparations with fresh flavor combinations. The place was bustling on a Saturday night and every table seemed to be having a great time. I even got a pint of ice cream to take home, and it was delicious. I will definitely return."

  • "We are two adults looking for a quiet place to dine. Most tables had children, screaming and unrestrained…even following the waiter to the bar which happened to be near our table. The menu is hardly children oriented and we found it on the expensive side. If we wanted to spend that kind of money we would find a more conducive place to have dinner. This just did not suit us and disappointed in the areas that interest us. "Disappointed""

  • "Fabulous side dish of brussel sprout leaves. It tasted great. My friend ordered breast of duck & it was wonderful. Apple bread pudding has a texture similar to a cake. Everything super."
