We have not visited Sola for a few years and found their creativity has slipped a bit. To their credit, we both enjoyed our meal but it was not memorable. At $90 for two courses at a BYOB we wished for a little more. My cauliflower soup was good but the al dente bites of cauliflower on the rim did nothing to enhance the dish. The Halibut was tasty and well prepared but the squiggle of sweet potato on the rim of the plate was too tiny to add a touch of sweetness and starch that would have improved the complexity of the dish. My partner's seasonal salad was good but not worth $10. The short ribs were tender and tasty but slightly too fatty. Service was too intrusive with both waiter and owner/manager checking in over & over.

I used to love this place and go often but it has gotten much worse. It started maybe a year ago when I went and ordered the exact same thing I always get (the short rib) and the portion was basically cut in half. It was still delicious but half the size for the same price? I decided to give it a try again recently and it was worse. The prices had gone up and the short rib went from what you expect, a single boneless price of meat you could cut with a fork, to an extremely fatty cut with the little meat. The meat that was there was tough and flavorless, on the largest bone I've ever been served. I felt like Fred Flintstones order. The other food we got was good but with prices up (cork fee too) and quality down, we won't be back.

My date shared SoLa with me last Saturday evening - what a wonderful place to share! I loved everything I had and I am definitely a foodie. I like that there are limited choices on the menu - and hope that it changes frequently to offer adventure in eating there! SoLa is wonderfully non pretentious

we visit sola on a regular basis. this time there was one notable flaw- service. the server did not know the menu- she could not describe the foie gras nor the tuna. these were both specials and it was the end of the evening (9pm). this is an atypical blip in service and i still consider sola to be overall outstanding because of the predictable quality food, menu, and setting.

Easy to miss across from the Acme, but once inside, the atmosphere transforms to a cozy site reminiscent of New Orleans, etc. Only five tables were full, which is not the norm, but it made for a friendly, intimate evening. We were very happy with the food and service. Brian was polite and attentive, but gave us our privacy. We started with the foie gras and salad respectively, followed by the rack of lamb and short rib. All were well prepared, attractively arranged, and offered a wonderful assortment of ingredients and flavors. Portions were not huge, but enough. Sorbet trio and creme brulee followed. Our red wine was decanted and served in the correct glasses! All in all, a special meal for a special occasion and we will be back.

Wanted to take my daughter who goes to college in the local area to a nice dinner. Huge disappointment here!!. Ordered salad that was supposed to have bacon and blue cheese in it but it had one small morsel of bacon and a faint taste of blue cheese. Wife and daughter ordered salmon--served dry but they ate it as they were hungry. My sons hangar steak was delicious. My filet mignon was awful. Owner replaced it with hangar steak--much better. The ironic thing about this place is $32+ for entrees and nobody came to check if our food was ok. I had to ask the busboy 3x to have the owner come out. I guess owner caters to regulars but not to visitors. Charged corkage-gave us white wine glasses for our red wine and no decanter, unlike the regulars.

Been many times, but not for a while, and to each of us at the table the menu had slipped a bit. The basic problem was that the dishes were, overall, a bit bland. lastly the service was not good - had to remind several times that we needed utensils and a looooong delay between last course and desert.

I ate at this eatery when it first opened. The food was spectacular. I would have given this restaurant 4 stars then. I know for a fact that it was changing owners at that time and the original owner/chef stayed on as part of the agreement (I know the current owner and we had this conversation). During a second visit, we learned that a new young chef had been hired and we were equally impressed with the food and service. Our most recent visit marked a major, for me, turnabout. My choice was sparse at best. Small chunks of chicken with cut up potatoes and no greens or sauce to speak of. The presentation was amateurish as were the other servings at my table. By 8pm there were only two other tables with patrons.

Food was very good. My wife and I loved our meal and time away from the kids. We've driven past the place a thousand times but never noticed it along Lancaster Ave. Service was a little slow, but the wait staff is nice enough. Great place to take your spouse for a good meal and some away time for the two of you. The fact that it is a BYOB was an added plus for us.

Sola's atmosphere is very sedate and inviting with impressive table settings. We visited on a Saturday night and we're given our choice of table (nice touch). Our choices were well prepared and very tasty but both the appetizer and entrée sections were somewhat limiting. That said, we would recommend it and will likely return.

Great dishes, elegantly presented with refreshingly welcoming service. The unusual specials were really special (Barracuda!) and the server was an unusual delight. In spite of the outside construction obstacle course (due to the installation of new sidewalks), the whole experience was very nice. The room is quiet and the patrons were respectful of others. I would go back in a heartbeat.

If you are looking for an intimate, home-like setting, relaxed dining, friendly staff, and "good food"you must try Sola. The gazpacho was one of the best I've tasted and my " first " duck entree was cooked to perfection. The salmon was moist, and the fried apple pie was deelish! Writing "Happy birthday" on the dish was a special extra treat ...this was picked up by the waiter. Nice touch.

We had a great summer meal at Sola...lovely version of a Caprese salad, with cherry tomatoes and arugula, soft shell crabs and monkfish with farro ( my favorite grain). Only complaint is both my and my friend's meals were a tad over-salted. Sola is one of the best restaurants on Main Line.

I have dined at Sola on many occasions and had wonderful experiences. Last night I found the chef had a heavy hand with the salt. My appetizer of mussels in curried broth was flavorful but the mussels were small they were quite expensive ( $15 ) and too salty for my taste. My main course of hangar steak was similarly unsatisfying due to both the salt and pepper which actually left an unpleasant aftertaste and the toughness of the meat. The owner was helpful and asked if there was anything that they could do but my dining companion does not believe in sending food back so I did refuse assistance. I did inquire and subsequently learned that there was a new chef.

We have been Sola enthusiasts for a long while but a few misses (food and service) in the past couple of years have dimmed our feelings about this white tablecloth BYOB. However, a recent visit indicates that the reasons for Sola's popularity and staying power are back. The Lobster special was excellent and the chocolate fondant superb. the wait time for entrees with only a few tables filled was a minor put-off but the service was attentive. Sola is back on our list.

Great BYOB for a pleasant dinner a deux or with friends. Well-thought out menu, with good specials as well. A little more than a bistro but a little less expensive and fancy than an event place. Good value for money. We thoroughly enjoyed our selections and I particularly liked the cheese plate as an option for an appetizer or after the meal. Good selection of cheeses.

Great food however a little bit expensive for the location. Apps, dinner and dessert were all excellent. Service was very well done as well. Location in an older building is a contrast to the quality of the food. Street parking was easy during the middle of the week on a summer night when the restaurant only had two or three tables taken, however I'm sure that it can be a challenge when the place is busy.

Crawfish angel hair pasta was bursting with flavor . Hanger steak was simply perfect , very tasty charbroiled crispy on the outside and rare on the inside, beautifully sliced on top of thin cut roast beets. The sauce can't quite remember what is was but I remember being pleasantly surprised as I thought is may be bland....it was not. Think we are going back tonight! I feel this restaurant is not recognized as much as it should be for the quiet elegance of it's food. It's not "sexy" just really really delicious.

We went to Sola for the first time last weekend. We loved that it was a BYO and close to our home. The food was so good and well presented, except for the appetizers. They were a bit skimpy and a bit overpriced. We had the caesar(arugula sale with caesar dressing ) and it was nothing special. The main courses were superb. Everyone in our party had a different fish dish and we all loved it. Service was great too. We will definitely head back a give the appetizers another try.
