Sola - Bryn MawrSUperb dinner with one slightSUperb dinner with one slight exception: the duck breast was rather bland. The softshell crab, scallops, and braised shrot rib were all excellent.. A great special occasion restaurant.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day LoveI accompanied my love his mother and grandmother to Sola. I liked the menu, everything was freshly prepared. Sola will always be known as the place where I first tasted escargots. Tasty but not my preferred food of the night. Entree's at our table included salmon, roast chicken, red tail bass and trout. My whole party agreed that all of our food was wonderful. A highlight for me was dessert (We all ordered two...yummy!) I will come back and not forget my bottle since Sola is a BYOB.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMtoo crowded to be romanticAlthough the food and service were excellent, my date and I were crowded into a tight space. We had ample room to eat but not enough room to alllow privacy for romantic discussion.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved it!We had dinner here for the first time this past Saturday, and we came away knowing we'll be back. The mushroom tart was delicious, and we wished we had each ordered one instead of splitting it. We both ordered the evening fish special, which was striped bass, and also delicious. And the desserts! We loved both the pecan pie and the chocolate ganach tart.
The service was friendly and attentive, without being overbearing, and we were made to feel so welcome.
Great discovery for us as we continue our Main Line tour in search of replacements for our Center City faces now that we have made the move to the 'burbs.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BYOB in our neighborhood.Great BYOB in our neighborhood. This was our first time at Sola and we will definitely be returning.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMReally good food- really smallReally good food- really small - we were placed by the kitchen and there was a lot of commotion that was my only complaint. The food MORE THAN made up for it.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!Menu was outstanding! Great for a special occasion! Great taste!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMalways enjoyable to dine atalways enjoyable to dine at sola. it is well worth the 30 minute drive. The food, service and attention to detail at all levels is excellent. That is why I am a regular customer.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMON THE MONEYWe ate at Sola over a year ago and it was good then. Why it took us so long to return I have no idea! 2 of us ordered the butterfish and the other person the chicken. Proably on of the best pieces of fish I've had in a long time. BYOB, has to be one of the better choices on the Main Line. Try and go!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA great spot for a special mealA friend and I had dinner there on Saturday night, and the experience was fantastic. I had called in advance to request a special meal due to a dietary restriction as well as to let them know that it was my friend's birthday, and they did not disappoint. They gave us a great table in the corner, and the service was friendly and efficient without being overbearing. The food was delicious (especially the wild mushroom tart), and the ambiance lovely. The special entree was scrumptious, and they took the time to write Happy Birthday on his dessert, which we really appreciated. We had a wonderful time at Sola, and I would highly recommend it.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorite restaurantsOne of my favorite restaurants on the Main Line. BYOB a definite plus.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love SOLA. The food wasWe love SOLA. The food was not superb this time, as I remembered from our last meal there, but it was very good--especially the dessert sorbets and the salads. It's BYOB, and the space is very pleasant: quiet, nice ambiance, only about 20 tables. It's the sort of place you want to dress up a little for and take a nice bottle of wine. Attentive wait staff know how to make you comfortable. Responsive to special seating requests.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother enjoyable meal atAnother enjoyable meal at Sola! Always enjoy eating at a BYOB that serves an excellent meal!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways reliably good foodAlways reliably good food even after a change in ownership last year. The menu is innovative and changes with the seasons. Being a BYOB adds to the value.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe mushroom tart and choppedThe mushroom tart and chopped salad were outstanding. The Hawaiian butterfish was delicious; a bit rich. Warm chocolate cake, wonderful. Brian was attentive, informative with out being overly so.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA special meanSola was a lovely fine dining experience. I liked the atmosphere because it was warm and cozy and simply decorated. The food was made with great care and there were interesting combinations of flavors. My appetizer mushroom tart was not as amazing as I expected, but the side salad was truly divine. My entree was delicious and so was my dinner partner's. I would definitely go back and recommend it to others. The one thing to watch out for is that it's not very dairy-free friendly. They might be able to accommodate, but I found the meal very dairy heavy.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother wonderful meal! IAnother wonderful meal! I am not a duck fan but on a cold winter night with a nice bottle of Cabernet, I decided to try the chef's interpretation and it was so delicious. It was perfectly cooked to med-rare (don't ask for more heat), with a smokiness from the lardons that really changed the whole flavor the cabbage was a perfect complement. My dining partner had the short rib and was equally satisfied. A great seasonal menu. The room, which can seem too quiet and small at times to me, is perfect for a dinner where you are focused on conversation and the person(S) you are with and not who's coming and going, or the throbbing music and scene.3/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI'm so glad this BYOB in BrynI'm so glad this BYOB in Bryn Mawr is here. It's been a few years since we went here and boy were we surprised. It was so delicious! We did the tasting menu for $40/person. It was sort of like Iron Chef where there's a secret ingredient. In this case it was sun chokes. The soup was velvety good, the scallops were perfectly cooked and the steak also perfectly cooked intermingled with sun choke puree and spinach. The only thing not quite there was dessert, which we were very curious to see how they pulled it off. The sweetened sun choke puree was good but not great. It needed a bit more depth and sweetness to it, perhaps more chocolate or some salted caramel.
All in all a great meal. We'll be back!12/12/2012 12:00:00 AM
