At Sola, our mission is to be regarded as an outstanding fine dining destination & a valued treasure of the Main Line & greater community.
We strive to serve contemporary cuisine in an intimate & pleasing room with the proper level of service (not too much, not too little). We want our guests to enjoy the window of time that they spend with us, savoring their food & wine & enjoying the company of their friends & family.
Our intent is to always remain a BYOB, knowing how important that is to many of our guests. Sola will provide a dynamic menu, driven by what is available fresh for the season. The expectation is that everyone will find a number of choices that appeal to their palate.
Our wish is that most of our guests will become regulars & will view us a spot they can enthusiastically recommend to their friends & can rely on when hosting visitors.

  • "The food and service after we were seated were both great. The only criticism of the night was that because we arrived about 10 minutes early relative to our reservation, we were told that we'd be seated at the actual time of our reservation. However we were not seated until 15 minutes after the time of the reservation which made the total wait 25 minutes. Small detail but both the food and service were excellent otherwise. We also love that it's a BYOB."

  • "We were sat in a very dark corner near the crockery cupboard and the waiters kept knocking past the back of my chair. I ordered the Skate Cheaks as an appertiser. Always good to try something new but these were very dissapointing. Mushy, without texture and no flavour at all. The entres took quite a while to come out too. This was due to a mix up in the kitchen apparently, which can happen to anyone. Just a shame that it happened in conjunction with all of the above. The Lamb Shanks were great though."

  • "My wife and I were looking for someplace new that we hadn't tried before. We decided on Sola and were rewarded with an amazing meal and great service. I had the lamb shank which was delicious and my bride had the Hawaiian Butterfish. Both meals were great. We will definitely be back. Make a reservation, you will definitely need it. The dining room was packed."

  • "This was my second time dining at Sola having had an excellent meal about 1 year ago. This time, I found the food less interesting and less flavorful. My girlfriend for an appetizer had the spring salad which was fresh, crispy, but not particularly noteworthy. I had the pickled beet and goat cheese salad which was probably the best part of my meal. For our entrees, she had the pork tenderloin with mustard sauce which was juicy, spicy but not overly so, and tender. I had arctic char (a special of the day) which was very uninteresting. This was prepared well but had very little flavor. For $30, I expected to be a little more impressed."

  • "You definitely need reservations! Small, cozy restaurant with excellent food and good-sized portions. BYOB, which is even better. Waiter/Waitresses were knowledgeable and friendly. Something for everyone on the menu. I would not recommend it for children, however (too gourmet for them), unless they have a separate children's menu."

  • "My friends and I were warmly welcomed to Sola. The observant waiter opened the wines and made sure that everyone had refills when needed. He explained the specials and took our orders when we were ready. We had two people in our party with allergies, The server made suggestions for substitutions and the chef made sure everyone had a delicious dinner. The desserts were all made in-house, and I was served a sampling of their delicious sorbets in honor of my birthday. Everyone at the party agreed that Sola is a great restaurant."

  • "The food was excellent (especially the duck). They were patient with us when we stayed later than other patrons, encouraging us to take our time. It is a BYOB and, in consequence, a bit less expensive than its quality might suggest. The evening we were there it was quiet, conducive to conversation with friends in an informal and friendly atmosphere."

  • "I came into town to visit my college freshman and took four starving coeds to this lovely restaurant for a delicious meal. The owner, Brian, took great care of us, made fabulous recommendations from the menu, and his staff prepared a wonderful meal. All of the young ladies left raving about the food and personal attention we received. I definitely recommend the scallop appetizer. We had 5 different entrees; all were great. Thanks for a great evening!"

  • "The noise level in the restaurant ruined the overall experience for me and it was also uncomfortably warm inside. Once people started leaving later in the evening it was much more enjoyable. The food was very good , although my soup could have been hotter. Portion sizes were perfect and food nicely flavored."

  • "Based on one recent review I was expecting great dining and so-so ambience. I was on the look-out for missing ceiling tiles and bare walls with holes from missing artwork as had been reported. In fact I did find great dining, but also pleasant ambience. No gaping holes in the ceiling and no holes in the walls either. While the decor is modest, the place is clean and neat and does not detract from the dining experience. If I were to offer a helpful criticism it would be that we felt a little cramped at our table for two. There's a fine line between providing comfortable dining and maximizing the earning potential of a finite space. In Sola's case they're just a wee bit too much on the profit side of the line for my preference."

  • "Consistent high quality food and service over the last 2 years, since Brian took over. We like the austere, distraction-free, interior. Sola is a great place to share your favorite bottle (BYOB) with good company, on weekdays, when it is not crowded and there's plenty of time to savor food and leisurely conversation. Keep in mind that it is not a Disneyland restaurant, it does not have glowing neons, waterfalls or chocolate fountains. Adjust your expectations accordingly and go to Sola with the clear intention of avoiding such nuisance. We have tried most of the sea and land items on the menu and have had them prepared to our personal preference and taste on every occasion. Sola is a keeper."

  • "Always have had really good meals here, with attentive service. On this visit food was as good as ever, but noticed that physically Sola is getting a bit shabby and needs a decor refresher. Panel or 2 falling from the ceiling , entire wall with holes where things used to hang, Hope they get to it soon."

  • "There was something very strange about the evening. It used to be a fancy restaurant that was beautifully maintained with very professional staff and excellent food. The other night was one of the most bazaar dining experiences I've ever had. They were understaffed with poorly trained, clumsy staff who were dressed far too casually for this used-to-be high-end special occasion restaurant. Their ceiling was missing large panels and some of the panels were precariously hanging loose (very large panels); all the decor and artwork were missing leaving behind the large nails and discolored walls; the ladies' bathroom walls were disintegrating and it was in total disrepair and not heated so it was freezing cold. Are they closing? New owners??"

  • "Sola just started opening on Monday nights, our favorite night to dine out. There were only 3 tables occupied in the dining room so it was quiet and service was uber-attentive. We had dinner with another couple. Hubby had the prix fixe filet and loved it. Two of us had the butterfish and 4th diner had the scallops. Salads were phenomenal as was the Butterfish entrée, perfectly cooked accesorized with caviar and salsify. Yum . Tasted the almond soup. Very rich, almost too sweet. Had the carrot soup on another visit, which was amazing. The prix fixe is a very good deal. Great place for an intimate dinner. Will be back!"

  • "We have been to Sola several times and wanted to share our great experiences there with my son and his wife to celebrate his 30th birthday. Sola didn't disappoint in any way. We had a relaxing meal with excellent service and perfect entrees. The butterfish was a big hit as were the lamb chops and roasted duck. On a night following the afternoon snow, each table was filled as usual, but that doesn't interfere with having a normal conversation. We will definitely go back."

  • "One of my favorite BYOB restaurants in the area; went to dinner with a friend on Saturday 1/11/14. I started off with the Roasted Mushroom Soup with Truffle crème fraiche; my friend had the Seasonal Salad with Marcona almonds, pear, fennel, bleu cheese and sherry honey vinaigrette. For dinner, we each had the pan seared Dorade, a mouthwatering fish from the Mediterranean Sea. it was served with a little pesto sauce and roasted vegetables (cauliflower, purple sprouting broccoli and haricoverts in a light vinaigrette) For dessert we shared the house made ice cream trio (chocolate, vanilla and pistachio)."

  • "Under new management - with the name unchanged - for about a year, this BYO has become the restaurant it always should have been. The menu is inventive but far from exotic, and every item is meticulously flavored, textured, and presented. In a half-dozen visits there, nothing has come to the table that wasn't delicious. The service is friendly but unobtrusive. The decor is soft, the ambient sound a very moderate buzz, and the atmosphere overall is warm, accommodating, and conducive to conversation. A favorite."

  • "Sola is ambitious to present fine cuisine to its guests and succeeds much of the time. There are lapses, however, when an appetizer is too small for a teaspoon and an exquisitely prepared goose liver is plated with diced ham or bacon that is salty beyond endurance. Twice during my meal the principal food, for instance, the Hawaiian butterfish, is superbly prepared and everything else on the plate detracts. Generally, green vegetables were overcooked. The chocolate cake dessert was tasty but it spilled across the plate after the first bite."
