Diner Reviews
  • "We are repeat diners at Sol Cucina The food is always good and they are very accomadating It is a great casual place"

  • "Went with my family for Easter brunch and sat on their beautiful patio. We had the option to choose between the regular menu and the brunch menu. Our server made several recommendations, which were all delicious! My ceviche was fabulous and my husband loved his "eggs benedicto" (on top of crab cakes!). Everyone in our party raved about the food and a a good time was had by all! We will definitely be back!"

  • "We took our 3 daughters here for dinner as our previous experience was great. Again the food and service was excellent but, and a big BUT. We booked a table for 5 several weeks in advance and when we arrived the 5 of us were seated at a table for 4. It was very crowded and for me it spoiled the whole evening as I sat perched on a wobbly stool at the end of a table meant for 4. Probably wont be back because of this."

  • "This restaurant is awesome. Great service. Great atmosphere. Amazing food. Very few restaurants get all three correct. Congrats to Dave and Matt; you nailed it! Cannot wait for my next visit to Scottsdale. This will be my first stop for dining out."

  • "Was visiting phoenix for the first time and saw this place had good reviews. Was really excited, but was overall disppointed. The service was slow and our waitress acted the she was too busy to help us. The staff in general was not very welcoming. Also, the food was good at best. Wouldn't recommend to a friend."

  • "No need to travel any further south than Scottsdale for authentic Baja Mexican. Margaritas are superb as are the unique sauces and the fried corn tortillas served whole for "make your own chips" complement nicely. Do not pass on the Naked Guacamole....full of flavor and just the right consistency Outdoor patio is a good choice to avoid the rather noisy and dark interior. Open kitchen allows a good view of the busy and talented chefs."

  • "Absolutely delicious and exciting twists to Mexican Food."
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "Our food server acted like he didn't want to be there and also took the taco Tuesday flyer off our table. We thought he didn't want us to order the cheap special! Very noisy, we wanted to eat on the patio, they cleared it out for an event...6:30 prime time? The food was expensive for very small portions. The taco vampiro was the size a 10 yr old would eat and still be hungry. We won't be returning."

  • "Had the Chipotle Chicken Desmadras and it was excellent. Wife had the chicken quesadillas and she enjoyed them as well. We love the two different sauces they serve with chips...they are addictive."

  • "The area we were sitting in was extreme noisy. We were there with a friend from CA, and it was difficult to carry on a conversation."

  • "Great choice for Mexican. Interesting menu. Not your typical beans and rice. A bit more healthy and gourmet if you will. I also really enjoyed the skinny margarita as well. Highly recommend! Friendly staff as well."

  • "The only thing that was wrong was that Open Table did not send me an acknowledgement of my reservation until the day after we ate there. Open Table service has really deteriorated recently."
    Dined on 3/30/2014
  • "Food was wonderful. The Lamb is outstanding as was the chicken burrito. Drinks are creative and all fresh. Service was outstanding. We will have dinner here again when in the area. Need to have reservations as very crowded."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "After seeing much "ado" about Sol Cocina in Scottsdale and Newport Beach, we were so disappointed. Food was just so-so, didn't really enjoy the chips that were offered with the salsa. We were a party of 7 with 2 children and our server seemed annoyed by that. He was also annoyed when we inquired about the happy hour menu for drinks, etc. Our plates sat on our table for quite a long time before being cleared by the manager, and that is when our server all of a sudden "appeared" to help clear our table. Dessert was not offered and we were celebrating a birthday. Don't think we will return or recommend Sol Cocina."

  • "I thought the food and wine was very good. More healthy Mexican cuisine. Pricey for casual dining and a bit loud for conversations. Tables in core area are very close together. We wanted to sit outside, but it was to windy."

  • "My daughter wanted to return here again this year. She said she was salivating thinking of the burrito and good margs! I don't know if our waitress was having a rough day, but she just wasn't into staying on top of her game. We will return and hopefully have a better experience."

  • "Food was very good, as it has been every time we've been there. Service was incredibly slow this time for some reason. Waiter apologized and tried to make up for it by chomping desserts for the table. He was very good however we did have to wait a long time to be served Once he was able to finally bring drinks after a long wait, he brought our food without delay We will return as that hasn't ever happened before"

  • "Very satisfying dining experience. Definitely will return."

  • "We try to get to SOL Cocina every time we are in Scottsdale. The menu selection is diverse and authentic. I love that you can have a healthy meal that tastes great. There are so many different items on the menu to choose from and to mix up if you want."

  • "We picked Sol Cocina primarily due to good past reviews. Our experience was different. The so-called authentic Baja cuisine was pretty tasteless without exception. This included the fish tacos, chicken tacos, shrimp tacos and carnitas tacos. Black beans and rice were pretty good, but nothing special. Service was dismal and our server was not very knowledgable. The bread pudding sounded good but was hard as a rock. At least she didn't charge us for it. All in all, there are much better Mexican choices in Scottsdale and Phoenix."

  • "We read about SOL in a travel mag and decided to give it a try on our visit to The Phoenician in Scottsdale. First of all, note Scottsdale is huge and the restaurant was a solid 25 minute drive from our hotel, also in Scottsdale. Once we got there, we were pleased we had made the trek. Dinner for four ( including two alcoholic drinks) was only $85 pre-tip! The shrimp diablo tacos were delicious. Not so for the chicken burrito, a huge portion which we found bland. Everything else was good, though. There were several large tables of boisterous folks, which added to the upbeat feel of SOL. We went on a Thursday night and the place was packed. Definitely make a reservation!"

  • "Enjoyed a terrific meal on 3/15. Our server was so nice, even gave me her pocket flashlight when I was having trouble seeing the menu. As a matter of fact the only complaint I have is that the restaurant is very dark otherwise it was a fantastic night. The margaritas were very tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed the Hot and Raw Tropical Ceviche as well as the many different taco choices. I look forward to visiting again the next time we are in Scottsdale."

  • "I give Sol a poor experience because of the food and the music.I had the shrimp chili relleno if was full of rice and 4 small shrimp on the top lame! The music it was hip hop didn't set the mood for a Mexican experience lame!"

  • "The food was excellent and the service was outstanding!!!"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "I am always looking for creative Mexican food, ala the Border Grill in Santa Monica which is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. SOL Cocina is definitely creative Mexican food. The specialty tacos are particularly unique and excellent. The bar is very busy, and also has creative drinks with lots of interesting tequillas and Margaritas. The ambiance there on a weekend night is frenetic. It is a very busy and loud place."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "We met some friends for drinks and then stayed for dinner, it was good food but not better than some of our other favorites that are actually cheaper. I liked the decor and experience but we were in the bar area and had people who don't understand personal space so I had people right behind my head/back so I could have done without that. Always good to try new places though."

  • "The food and service were excellent!! Loved the coconut calamari appetizer. Tacos and quesadillas were superb. Great upscale Southwest food!! The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous. Very clean, modern, new and trendy feel. Margaritas were fabulous. A must on our list next time we are back in Scottsdale"

  • "Very tasty street-style tacos with lots of creative options and the choices to mix and match. Not street-taco prices, but not outrageous. Very loud place though."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "Food was acceptable lee but far from great. Seafood was overpowered by sauce. Would not go back."
    Dined on 3/12/2014
  • "Well, that says it all. I'm not sure that I understand why music has to played at such loud volume when people eat. I'm assuming that it a) either gets them to drink more, and/or b) eat more quickly and get out of the restaurant sooner so that the tables can turn over faster."

  • "The food is here is delicious Mexican food with a twist! Lots to choose from - something for everyone."

  • "QUite a different take on "mexican" food. WOnderful flavors, combinations and avaialbel specliaties. Have been here a dozed times and will be back many more. Great to order a couple of different tacos or one of their combination paltes. NOT your normal tacos. The cocktails are varied and freshly prepared with nice presentations. The "naked guacamole" is a must to start. If you are calore worried: go for the special low calorie burrito - giant but you can save half for lunch tomorrow (my wife has done this numerous times)."

  • "We're from New Mexico & thus love all types of Mexican food. I don't agree with the reviews on this place; it's noisy, noisier, and downright so loud you cannot talk to others in your party. Our waiter was so busy we rarely saw him. When he did show up, he brought a Blackberry-Ginger margarita that tasted neither like ginger nor blackberry. Then I got a combo with Carne Asada; Carnitas; and chicken tacos. The Chix was excellent, but the beef and pork had only the meat flavor, no spice whatsoever! A no go for a return trip for me!"
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "Nice trendy place and decent atmosphere. However, very poor service. First, we weren't seated at or reservation time. We had to wait an additional 20 minutes. So consider you're reservation just a place holder. We then waited 20 minutes to order drinks. Food was average. So, I would pass for other fine dining in Scottsdale."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "We wanted to find and try not your average place but with above average Mexican cuisine. And this place was it! The fresh ceviche was amazing as was the roasted sweet corn. The lamb chops were tender and full of flavor - a staff favorite I was told and I can see why. Service was very good and wouldn't hesitate to go back when in Scottsdale."
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "Food was just okay. Authentic mexican, but okay. Drinks were way over priced. Extremely overpriced! Disappointing visit."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "Even though we had a reservation, we had to wait more than 30 minutes. This really reduced our enthusiasm for the restaurant."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "The food was very good but felt a little pushed into extras like chambord in the marguerites, which I found too sweet."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "works out to be very expensive in the long run, but tasty."
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "SOL Cocina has great food, excellent service, and a wonderful overall feel. The salsa and black bean dip served with "chips" were very good. The "chips" were actually whole, seasoned fried corn tortillas which you would break up yourself. It was creative and left no doubt that they were "house made." Our entrees had just the right amount of heat - meaning they would be too hot for the typical Minnesotan, but just right for these California transplants. In all, it was one of the best meals we had in our two weeks in Scottsdale."
