Diner Reviews
  • "The food is consistently amazing, as is the service. The only downside is that it can get quite loud, so to avoid this, we dine early."

  • "Sojourn's food was off the charts but the ambience ruined it for us. We were practically sitting on top of our neighbors and the noise level was so loud that I had to read my husband's lips in order to converse with him. We ordered desert but we decided to cancel it before we got a migraine. I realize that restaurants need to make a profit by jamming customers into their venues but not at the expense of the customers enjoyment."

  • "We all got the brunch deal for $30. It includes endless Mimosas, , Bloody Marys, or Sangrias along with an entree and side from a selected menu. All of our food was amazing! I got the Almond crusted French toast with a side of polenta with truffle oil and parmesan. Big enough portion but not oversized. Everybody else got the Croquet Madame with either a side of chorizo harsh or fries. The plates were ckeacleared by all of us! The server and busser were on top of clearing our plates and filling our drinks. It was great that they weren't strict on the 2 hour max for unlimited drinks too!"

  • "Really very good food and service. I was drawn to Sojourn by the availability of a big table on a Friday night, and by the reasonable prices, and it was all much better than I'd have dared hope for. Very loud where we were, in the center of things, but still very pleasant."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here the other night and ordered the spring rolls, salmon, and kobe beef sliders. All were delicious! It was just a little crowded and the seats were so close together. We will definitely be back though!"

  • "Nothing left to be said -- this restaurant never disappoints. Brought a couple of new people to introduce them to this restaurant and everyone leaves happy, satiated, and very very content. Thank You"

  • "Where to begin... We went with another couple and shared dishes tapas style. We were seated at this great corner table in the bar area. We started with the cheeses and meats, the triple cream brie was amazing... At the recommendation of our server once again we tried the oysters. I don't really like oysters but the server assured us that the oysters were perfect for those who loved oysters because they were different and a great gateway for beginners. I LOVED them. Quite simply the best ravioli I've ever had-A must have. Black Pasta, Grilled Lamb Chops, and the half chicken - its hard to find chicken done right, this one was done perfect - crispy on the outside and juicy on inside, white wine sauce was tasty Wine was solid and I'm picky."

  • "Did not love the brunch experience, have had dinner here several times and loved it. Great food, better service than brunch!"

  • "A restaurant the delivers beyond your expectations. Classy, warm ambiance serving the public a 5star experience. The menu spans a diverse taste palette. And the wine list is exceptional in comparison to most restaurants in the city! An absolute must-try (and soon-to-be favorite) restaurant if you haven’t been already. Love Sojourn!!"

  • "We didn't know what to expect with such a diverse menu, but we had an excellent dinner here. It was nice to be able to share dishes - all excellently prepared - and be guided by a very knowledgeable gentleman in taking our order and helping us select a bottle of wine. We'll definitely be going back."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Upper East. It's always my go to place when I want to go somewhere close to home where I can kind of find that 'downtown lounge' feel with great food and wine, good ambiance, and great music. I love the decor, and how it feels like you're not even in the UES anymore once you step in. The crowd is always young and hip, except for some weekdays when you tend to have much older regulars hanging around the bar. Food is always consistent. I love their small plates style. My favorite dish here is the croquettes. I seriously crave them all the time! All the other dishes I've tried have been pretty good too. Perfect place for a date or a girls night out. I highly recommend. A must try!"

  • "While the food here is quite good and interesting, the noise level is so ruinous to a pleasurable evening that it makes no sense to even give it a try. The crowd noise was bad enough but to add to it loud booming music became an insult. We like buzz but this was a roar. Skip it."

  • "What a treat! And I mean just that...my schedule doesn't allow me to go out often, but when I do I really have high expectations. Sojourn is one of those restaurant that has not once disappointed me. The staff are friendly and attentive. The fool is absolutely delicious! The wine list is diverse and interesting pairings with the menu (and the sangria is fabulous)! A testament to a fine dining experience! (But without the pretentious snobby feel or ridiculously priced items)"

  • "Immediately upon entering Sojourn (if you can find the door, awkwardly tucked in the entryway of an apartment building) you are struck by the attempt to create ambiance by removing light. The only lighting that fills the small space comes from a single candle on each table. What might be romantic if slightly brighter and in a piano bar falls flat in a restaurant that attempts to offer contemporary American fare. The menu boasts that plates are perfect for sharing, with the waitstaff describing portions as being between an appetizer and an entree, leaving diners to puzzle over how to divvy up their orders. The food was not memorable and a bit overpriced, though I would've gladly paid more if only to help get ConEd to turn the lights back on."

  • "I went there on a Sunday night and the service was sooo slow! The food and drinks took hours to get to our table. The waiter was very kind, but still, slow, slow slow. The food and ambience is great though!"

  • "Salmon with mushrooms was one of the best dishes I've ever had, but the noise level was unbearable. It was difficult to have a conversation with someone across a small table for two. I would come back here but only VERY early to avoid the noise. I would never come here at prime time, especially on a weekend. The noise interferes with the enjoyment of the food."

  • "We had a large party including 2 young children. The staff was very accommodating to our needs and served the food in a timely manner r since we had an event to attend. A couple of the entrees were a little skimpy....there were only 3 scallops in the entre with scallops but overall we were all quite satisfied! Some entrees included a veg and starch and all was under $30...a good deal!We all enjoyed our meals and thought the price was excellent for a NYC restaurant. We would have liked it better if the lighting wasn't so dark especially since we were dining early. It was very hard to see your food!"

  • "This was my second time at Sojourn and I cannot wait to go back. I had the most amazing meal both times, with grrat service and an amazing wine list."

  • "I was expecting a nice place and a great meal, but my disappointment was tremendous. The service was extremely slow and even basic informations about the menu were not provided by 2 different servers. The ambience is nice, but too noise. Very sad!"

  • "A restaurant who truly delivers without compromising quality! The ambiance is extremely warm and inviting with rustic, Tuscan sophistication. The staff are friendly and attentive...and the most admirable quality of the staff is they are well-educated on the menu. The menu spans a wide palette and all the dishes we tried were absolutely delicious. Paired with a noteworthy wine list, Sojourn is amongst the top in the city! An absolute pleasure. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!"

  • "This is a great neighborhood restaurant. We use it as one of regular spots. They have great variety on the menu and can satisfy a range of tastes. It's best to order a variety of dishes and share them with the table. The more the merrier. The wine list is good enough that you'll find something good."

  • "A very nice restaurant , set back from the street. Service, food and decor were fine. However, as the restaurant filled up, the noise level rose to the point where it became hard to hear my companion."

  • "What a deal! $28 gets you an entree and a choice of side plus 2 hours unlimited booze. Our waitress Amanda was over with a carafe to refill our glasses every time it got low. Oh and even if you don't have room, try the blueberry cheesecake!!!"

  • "I have been looking for a local place since ive moced into the city. This place has everything and the fact that it is busy everytime I come here says something. It is a bit on the loud side and a little cramped but it is worth it. I wouldnt recommend it for a quiet rkmantic dinner if you go between 7 and 9. Never had a bad meal and the wine is always good."

  • "I had a reservation for 9 on a Friday night. I was told at 9:10 that the next table would be ours, but once it opened up they seated another couple who came in after us! I asked the hostess what happened and she said she got confused. We decided to just leave and eat elsewhere. The tables were right next to each other so there was no privacy or room and it was so loud. Poor service. Won't be coming back. *I didn't even eat, so I rated the food on the time I went there for brunch."

  • "Ambiance. Wine List. Menu. Service. Desire to Return. Check off all of the above, 5star restauarant! The dinner menu is diverse and the wine selection is highly noted for its taste to pair! An absolute pleasurable experience for all ages. A vibrant scene that will stimulate you in the finest of ways! Hats off!!"

  • "Great energy, nice lounge area w good music but food wasn't consistent. Tuna was rubbery, lamb meatballs over-seasoned, sliders were good. I would recommend to pre-game here for a few drinks and maybe cheese platter before going out ."

  • "This place was packed when we got there and due to the total incompetence of the host, many of us with 9:00 reservations did not get seated until 9:30. The whole place just isn't organized well. But once we did get seated the service and food was great"

  • "Food is outstanding, the salmon is sensational but the noise level is out of control. I won't be returning to eat there but I will continue to order in because the food is so great."

  • "A group of us go here every 3 month or so. it is our go to place. Same table and they know us now. We adore the service, wine and food. They never disappoint us and always make sure we have enough food to share amongst the 4 of us. The wine list is intense and definitely suits every palette…Can be loud and crowded but part of the charm for this place. If you want quiet and romantic there are other places…if you want great share food, great wine and great service, GO!!!"

  • "I decided to take my date to Sojourn since it would be the first time for the both of us and we enjoyed our dining experience. The place is really busy, reservations are strongly recommended. The food was great, the entrees were full of flavor as well. The rows between tables can get a little cramped, and it does get noisy here, but overall it was a great dining experience."

  • "Sojourn is one of those ‘feel good’ restaurants. A true taste of elegance with a sharp zest of happiness and fun energy! Across the board from steakhouses to the exclusive spots you need to book months in advance, the favorite hole-in-the-wall yet extremely authentic mom & pops and Michelin 5stars...hands down Sojourn is in my top three of New York City. Incredible vibe and interesting mix of people, which is so refreshing to see! Love love love!"
