A word from SoHo South Cafe
Soho South Cafe has been made famous by its patrons as one of Savannah's staple weekly lunch and Sunday brunch spots. Opening in 1997, Soho South Cafe is located in the heart of Historic Downtown Savannah, appropriately named after the iconic New York burrough for its proximity to nearby shops and entertainment venues.
Built originally as an automotive service station in 1945, the building sat vacant for years before the restaurant's original owners acquired the space. The restaurant was then acquired by Daniel Reed Hospitality and remodeled to make improvements to the existing model which represents the latest adaptation as it stands today.
The design of the restaurant incorporates elements of iconic, archetypal New York City. The quirky, eclectic esthetic lends a sense of humor to the monumental, vast interior space. The overall atmosphere results in a casual dining experience that works perfectly for lunch and dinner on the weeks-end.

Diner Reviews
  • "This place is adorable. It looks like you stepped into Alice in Wonderlands Tea Party with the mismatched chairs and tables. It looks like you are in an indoor/outdoor garden party. I had the egg and cheese burrito and it was amazing! Our waitress was very nice and our food came out quickly. Make reservations and if you go on Sunday be sure to wear your Sunday best!"

  • "Service, food and ambiance were okay. Nothing special."

  • "The food was excellent. One member of our party ordered the Monte Cristo. It was not deep fried, rather it was a traditional Monte Cristo inside while the outside was thick French toast that was griddled, not deep fried. She said it was delicious. The other three of us ordered the Eggs Savannah (more appropriately Egg - singular - Savannah). It's more of a deconstructed crab cake benedict with one beautiful poached egg on top of a wonderful crab cake, on top of some perfectly cooked asparagus (which was lightly sauced), all sitting beside one perfect biscuit. In all, an excellent brunch and a place we will seek out each time we are in Savannah."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants downtown. The food is great, space is unique and well laid out. One of the few restaurants that uses Open Table to make reservations. Best way to eat out, we walk right by the 30 minutes to an hour wait crowd."

  • "We made a reservation, and arrived at the restaurant about 5 minutes early. We were surprised to see the restaurant was only about a third full and they would not seat us until exactly 10:15. They would not tell use why and we were a little annoyed. Other than that, the waitress was great and the food was great!"

  • "My husband had the pulled pork sandwich which was excellent. The shrimp scampi was good, but was served on an enormous mound of pasta (nothing about the pasta on the menu) - way too much plus it diluted the otherwise tasty seasonings."

  • "Fantastic atmosphere in a converted garage. Piano player + trees inside + great good makes this place a home run. If you are looking for a reasonable place to go out to eat and have an enjoyable evening -- this is the place."

  • "Had Lunch last Saturday with my wife, and we decided right then to make a reservation for lunch with our kids for after church on Sunday, and glad we did. Kids enjoyed it as much as we did the day before. Definitely going back."

  • "Nice, eclectic ambience. Food good. Many egg choices and interesting menu in general. Dine with Savannah's hipsters . Good experience overall."

  • "Everything was good, but when we asked for jam or honey for our biscuit they brought us a Welch's grape jelly packet. You know the kind you find at a diner? They didn't have any honey at all. I expected we would get some awesome homemade peach jam and great honey Savannah is known for considering there is a store in town that sells only honey in many incredible flavors. Soho should kick it up a notch in the condiment category, especially considering the quality of items available right in town. The decor is eclectic and fun. Nothing matches, and that is just fine."

  • "Good service as well as good food. I was early and asked to be seated. Hostess had difficulty seating me early. I was told my table was occupied seems to me there was no flexibility! Hostess was a bit off putting.."

  • "I have love Soho South for lunch for a long time. The dinner menu is equally enticing. The Dayboat catch special that we chose was a wonderful fusion of fresh shrimp, pulled pork and seasonal vegetables. Service was superb."

  • "We have enjoyed brunch at SoHo over the past 6 or 7 years, but our recent experiences have been disappointing. SoHo's recent renovations are delightful and the ambience remains creative, welcoming, fresh, and comfortable. We have enjoyed Mr. Duckworth's piano selections very much as well. However, the restaurant's post-renovation brunch menu has been significantly abbreviated ,and the preparation of several of the brunch selections has been disappointing. Also, the post-renovation wait service too often has been inefficient, inattentive, and impersonal. We will likely continue to frequent SoHo and to bring our guests, but we are hopeful that the menu selection, food preparation and wait service will soon be significantly improved."

  • "Soho South, an eclectic re-birthed restaurant in historic downtown Savannah, offers a classic American menu in a renovated garage. A huge space peppered with Poor Richard mix and match furnishings, the space is surprisingly quiet for its concrete and metallic surroundings. Food offerings are fairly standard but are well executed by the kitchen and delivered by an enthusiastic and good-looking staff. Better suited for lunch than dinner, at least at this early stage in its re-birth, SoHo South should do well in its central location with its hip decor and low key, friendly style."

  • "I went when it was a little dead (5pm on a Saturday) but the theme is very fun and unique. The steak was good, but I'm not sure it was worth the price. It didn't blow my mind or anything, but it was good. I would certainly recommend the restaurant to a friend. The staff was outstanding in their service."

  • "The food was very good and our server was great. My main complaint was that the hostess was rather rude. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation time and received a notice from the hostess that there was another reservation coming for our table in two hours, basically implying that we needed to be done and gone by that time. It was not as if we had shown up without a reservation or even late for our existing one so not sure why the need for such a rude comment."

  • "I wanted to like this place for dinner and the start is promising. They've up scaled the atmosphere, lights were lowered, very classy for an open warehouse look. Service is ok too with attentive staff. But the bourbon chicken was tough even though tasty and the broccolini a but too "al dente". Would I go back? Maybe if everything else was full but I had a coupon for half price..... It's still a better lunch spot until they do the food in the evening a little better."

  • "My wife and I had their catch of the day which was Mahi,Mahi. It was done to perfection. We thought the room would be noisy with its hard surfaces and openness, but we easily conversed without a problem. Service was very good, and Gail Thurmond, a Savannah staple, on the piano was an added benefit. Will definitely return."

  • "Bistro steak had no flavor-terrible. Strip loin steak looked like a rib eye -- to much fat. Garlic crostini app was OK. We've eaten a this restaurant many times for lunch, but tis was a first for dinner and since the new management and staff took over. Wait person didn't appear to be familiar with some items on the menu."

  • "This was a fun place for Sunday Brunch. Lots of choices, plentiful plates, and good service. The prices were reasonable, wine prices doable. The pours were not great, but had a good time nevertheless. Go here, you won't regret it"

  • "They have done a really good job of retaining the character of the "old" Soho South and yet upgrading the interior, adding a bar area and some spit and polish. Nice job and the Local 11Ten team has done a very nice job with the menu and the food quality. We had two really nice pasta dishes- a pleasant surprise."

  • "I love what the new owners have done! I was in the restaurant previously once about a year ago, and I love that they have managed to completely update the entire space w.out loosing the spirit of the establishment. It was a delicious and enjoyable brunch for our party of 4, but noted at the same time that the 2 next to us were equally able to experience a romantic brunch, while still the other adjacent table included what looked to be a 4 or 5 year old entranced by their waffle :) I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast burrito w. the brunch potatoes. They were equally as special as the ability to feel like we were having our meal outdoors among the trees! The great service, food, and atmosphere make SoHo a must stop for brunch in Savannah."

  • "The food was fantastic, but this brand new place has a few things to learn about service - but we went with a large group during the restaurant's first weekend. It took us a LONG time to order and eat, but the manager was gracious about it, and I think once they work out the kinks, this will be a great spot."

  • "The new owners of Soho South, who already own local gems Local 11Ten and The Public, gave this old favorite a make-over on everything you see AND taste. The menu had been elevated but keeps a few fan faves. The design has like a grown-up-eclectic feel with the mismatched tables and chairs and the huge wall of random windows and doors (I even saw an old man trying to open one). My only complaint was that service was slow, at least from the server we had. However the manager was very friendly and helpful. I will be happy to return, especially for a chance to sit at the beautiful new bar."

  • "We have been going to SoHo for several years for late lunch and always found the food delicious. However our first evening dinner there after its remodel was not what we expected from SoHo. The remodel was nicely done, the service was excellent, but the food was disappointing. My husband had the quail which he said was good, but the steak and potatoes were average. Salads with in house made dressings were kind of bland. Bread was good but after a bill of $134.00 for five with only 3 glasses of wine we felt that our money had been wasted. Haven't been back for lunch since reopened but I don't recommend dinner."

  • "We each ordered different entree(s) and to our delight, we were very pleased with our dinners. We followed up with desserts - they were delicious as well. With just a bit of tweaking, my dinner guests and I can see great potential for the newly managed, renovated Soho. Suggestions: work on noise reduction - especially for dinner. The lighting was just fine. If at all possible, make the fireplace a focal point - possibly 4-sided and positioned more centrally in the large dining area for lunch and dinner guests to enjoy. The host and waiters were delightful and attended to our requests in a timely manner."

  • "The old Soho South was one of my favorite lunch spots and the first place we took out of town guests. I was initially shock that it was closed and being gutted. Having now seen the new Soho South, "I love what they did to the place! They kept what was good and fixed what was north so good. We will definitely take out of town guests and go regularly ourselves. What a treat to now be able to go for dinner. It's a perfect locale for a pre Savannah Theater dinner as it is just a block from the theater."

  • "This place was gorgeously layed out. Tables are swirled around the very open space as whimsically as possible. They are all different finishes, sizes and types: from square to round, from wood to metal. There was no indication that reservations are needed for Brunch, but trust me, they ARE. Thank goodness for the Opentable app, it saved us an hour wait. The staff is good-natured, albeit inexperienced. But lets talk about the food! I had the Crab Cakes with grit cake on the bottom in a beautiful cajun masterpiece. Nothing was better than this meal. It was solid from the little bit of crunch on the crab cake to the sturdiness of the grit cake. This food magic was delicious!!"

  • "I have been coming to soho for years now. I am originally from Massachusetts, any time family and friends come over this is where I take them. I was very disappointed when they closed down for renovation but I am very satisfied with the end product. The menu has changed a little bit since the new ownership, I miss the art that were displayed all over, but overall great restaurant, great food and amazing service. Oh and the parking next door used to be free on weekends and weeknights but now it's not and a lot of people don't know that, so be careful so your car doesn't get towed."
