Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I read the reviews but decided to give it go. We walked in and were immediately impressed by the ambience; a large tree centered around the bar (you have to see it). From the new brick ovens to the massive wine selection, we were sure the reviews had to be mistaken. That was until we sat down for dinner. Thankfully we had an apologetic server because the poor service and over priced food was enough to make us dine and never return. We watched as severs scrambled to run food; leaving one pizza next to us for 20 mins without ever even have greeted us. When our food finally arrived, it was nothing to rave about. We frequent many philly foodie establishments. Next time well save our culinary expectations for the city."

  • "Fun and fabulous. Sea bass and steaks delicious. Little pricey but not over the top. Great waiter in Nick. Will def. return."

  • "This was the second time my husband and I dined. The first time was a much better experience. This time however our meal was completely rushed. Food came out and was cleared way too fast. My husband had the veal special- he is a real meat eater so I was shocked when he spit out his first few bites saying it was inedible and all fat with no meat. We informed the waiter and got the fish special instead which was better than the meat special but only average per my husband. Overall a disappointing experience this time and we cancelled another reservation we had there later in the summer."

  • "One if the true Jems in Margate, food was great and service was impecable."

  • "Highly recommended. One of a handful of really good restaurants at the Shore. The whole bronzino was perfectly done, moist, sweet and flaky. I had to filet it myself which is unusual since it is typically done by your waiter at your table in most good restaurants. Although you can order just the filets I prefer the whole fish since it usually is more moist. My wife had the Chilean seabass served with a wonderful sauce and it was done to perfection also. Parking is at a premium near this place so if you are going on a weekend leave enough time to find a parking place."

  • "This is our second time here, from the Martini, to the Grilled Octopus, to our entrees, everything was top notch. I ordered a Greek special, Seafood Plaki, served in a terracotta pot and was phenomenal. My wife ordered the pasta with the crabmeat, and she loved it. Our desert was also phenomenal. Our server was terrific. The only "dent" was the loudmouth sitting next to us who obviously didn't realize there were other people in the restaurant. We cant wait to go back."

  • "There were four of us in our party and we all had an amazing dinner - the wine was excellent and dessert was scrumptious. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "This was our first visit to Sofia's and it was worth every penny. I had a seafood stew that was remarkable for its taste and textures. I highly recommend it. Though I can't remember it's Greek name, it is one of the restaurant's signature dishes, as are the lamb and eggplant dishes. The salads were big enough to share. The wine list very respectable. Most often when you go to a shore restaurant you get high prices but mediocre food. These prices were significant but when you get this level of food, you do not mind spending for it. Definitely a find."

  • "Very good Greek food with good service. Filled up rapidly as we were leaving at 8pm on a Friday night...making the service at the end of our meal slightly slower than the start...but overall, the service was good. Food was excellent as always."

  • "We frequent Sofia's often and have always had great service and food. The bar is a little noisy but if you want quiet you can request a table towards the back of the restaurant. There is also an upstairs that has a great view. I would recommend this establishment to anyone."

  • "Food was excellent! Service was great! We dined early on a week day which could have been a factor. Nick, our server, explained the "specials" and gave the price which is a good practice not usually followed in other restaurants. Trio dip appetizer was delicious accompanied by a generous portion of pita bread. My wife's pasta dish was plentiful with enough to take half home. My lamb chops, on the other hand, though cooked to perfection consisted of three small chops. At a cost of thirty six dollars and two bites per chop, this came to six dollars a bite. A little much. We will certainly go again, but I will not be ordering the lamb chops again."

  • "Sat outside on their upstairs patio. Lovely surroundings superb service. Overall pleased but specials weren't exactly as described. Lobster tail on surf & turf a bit over cooked. Best creme brûlée ever!"

  • "Service was not bad, but not the best. After longer than usual wait, we got all food coming at once. The raw oysters, salads, hot appetizers and cold ones. We had to send hot starters back. After this incident everything were smooth. Food was delicious (except raw oysters ), entries - Crab cakes and Lamb Osso Bucco we can recommend to foodies."

  • "My best friend was in town and we decided to make a reservation for Wednesday night which the website advertises as "Social Scene Wednesday". We made a 10 pm reservation thru a link on the Sofia's website. 10:15 & 10:30 pm were also available. At about 8:40 pm call was placed to me by the restaurant manager.I got the message as we were heading out the door at about 20 after 9. The message confirmed that we had made a 10 pm dinner reservation, but that the kitchen closed at 9:30 p.m. We called to the restaurant to express our disappointment. The response we received was, "I said I was sorry. What do you want me to do?!" So while the food and the atmosphere may well be delightful, it is my experience that customer service is lacking."

  • "After our 2nd time here we remembered why we hadn't been back. The food was very bland & the service very slow; although the servers were very polite & professional. it's too bad because the ambience & decor are very nice. Fire roasted shrimp app was 4 small pale shrimp sitting in a bowl of watery broth. Marinated grilled lamb chops had no seasoning & were a bit tough. Probably would have been good if they had actually been marinated...Surf & turf wasn't seasoned either. "

  • "The dining room is dark and dungeon-like. It started with my wife & I watching the table next to us being served our octopus. We should have left then, but stayed. The Lamb chops were overlooked & the roasted chicken was decent. The server was clueless, boasted about his 17 years of experience and talked way too much! Couldn't wait to get the heck out of there. Btw, Mr. Waiter, I'm not a child and Don't require you to squeeze lemon on my Octopus or cut it up."

  • "You can always count on fantastic huge chunks lump crab in appetizer, great shrimp, wonderful greek appetizers like smooth eggplant and warm soft pita, great greek salad; lambchops are always great - two choices - small and large - with different preps, bronzino; huband loves the greek coffee; beautiful decor, great bar area if you want to arrive before your reservation with very good singers and entertainment - just always a very good experience."

  • "I realize most of the other reviews are several years old, and perhaps things have changed at Sofia, but we did not find any of the negative concerns posted. We arrived 10 minutes late, but were treated like celebrities, even being given a "special" table. The decor is a mix of modern and medieval and the tree in the bar is beautiful. A live singer in the bar area was a nice touch. The food was wonderful (octopus and lamb chops), the wine was choice. There was a large birthday party in the other room which did add to the clamor, but also added to the "festive mood". Entrees were $30 and up, but for a special treat, worth the visit to Sofia. Would recommend Sofia with a reservation placed through OpenTable."

  • "First time dining here, and despite being Restaurant Week and very crowded, the service was very efficient and the food delicious. Well rounded and reasonably priced wine list. Lovely decor. Will make Sofia a regular dining spot at the Shore."

  • "We like Sophia's and have eaten there frequently, but this dinner was not positive. It was Restaurant Week and very crowded. We were seated more than 20 minutes past our reservation time and waited another 30 minutes to get menus and drinks. Our server, who was trying hard, was serving at least seven tables. He said that some servers had not come in and there were two large parties upstairs. However, the group next to us, seated 30 minues after us, got their dinner first. Also, some of the food was cooked more quickly than it typically is and was presented differently than usual. To compensate for the delays, they gave us a complementary dessert sampler. I realize that it was an unusual experience and we will certainly return."

  • "Our group of four totally enjoyed our meal - the food was delicious. Our only complaint was that our drinks arrived after our appetizers. One man ordered a scotch, and when it finally arrived declined it - he did not want to drink it with his meal. Drinks should arrive before appetizers - with some time to enjoy before food.We were dining leisurely!"
