Diner Reviews
  • "A lamb "Rack" @ $32.00 consists of more than two freaking ribs: game over!! Fifth chance and will not return."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. We could not have been more thrilled with our experience. I had requested a quiet table when I made the reservation and they absolutely accommodated us and put us all the way in the back at a quaint table for 2. We ordered the calamari based off of other reviews and it was good. I had the special grilled ahi which was unbelievable and had so many different layers to it. My husband had the sole with stuffed lobster and apple which was also excellent-his only complaint was the hint of lobster. We ordered the chocolate crème brulee for dessert which was phenomenal-we resisted the urge to order a second. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Exceeding expectations. There were 6 of us. We ordered appetizers and BOOM, they were on the table fast. Same with our dinners. My lamb was a little less done than i preferred and no fuss made just 5 minutes later out it came perfect. So many great choices on the menu too.Love"

  • "This is a great place! A little noisy but the food makes up for it. I wish there were more variety of vegetarian dishes but the couple that you do have are very good. This place is especially nice in the summer/early fall when you can sit outside. I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "We found SoDo through a bit of research using OpenTable and UrbanSpoon. It isn't a very big place but offers a nice intimate ambiance for groups of four or less. The service was slower than perhaps it should have been no more than were at the restaurant but the food was certainly worth the wait. The calamari appetizer was incredible. Wine list is adequate and the prices are what you would expect for this type of contemporary cuisine. Definitely worth the short cab ride to get to it."

  • "Happening Downtown Reno meeting place, good food, good service"

  • "SoDo is a nice restaurant. I am a vegan and they have a vegan menu with 3 entrees listed. I chose the pasta selection and it arrived covered with Parmesan cheese. REALLY? If a restaurant has a vegan menu, wouldn't you expect that they would be "with it" enough not to put cheese on it? So I sat there while my 3 dining companions ate their dinners and 15 minutes later, my dinner re-arrived, this time with no cheese, thank goodness. The whole situation was not enjoyable."

  • "Great Food, Excellent service! We had a lovely evening and plan on being back!"

  • "I was actually disappointed for the first time at SODO. My Greek salad was very average. I have had it several times before and it was much better. Hope this was just an off day."

  • "Third time we have been to SODO's and it was great again. Very nice dinning, but a little noisy. Food was great with amazing service and the cocktails were fantastic."

  • "Great food and service but noisy, hard to converse with a group larger than 4. But still one of of our favorites."

  • "Had an ad hoc romantic dinner with my wife. SoDo has creative twists on their menu. We tried a few and we were not disappointed. My negatives, mostly nits, were that only bottled beer was offered, and the 2-person tables are very narrow. The positives are the ambience (but don't sit near the waiter/kitchen area) and the reasonably priced wine list."

  • "As you may or may not realize, Reno is not a hot bed for fabulous restaurants. Besides LuLou's and the Atlantis Steakhouse, where does one go? Well, add SoDo to the list! While the dishes aren't overly exotic or unique, the food is tasty and the wait staff was very good. We had scallops and tuna. Both were fresh, and prepared in a way that they were the main piece of the entrée, the way it should be. While not asked how we would have liked the tuna prepared, it did come out slightly over cooked but it was partially my fault for not stating I'd like it rare. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, but not overly so. For a Sunday night, it was the perfect discovery!"

  • "Dinner was wonderful. We shared crab poppers - good, and a Greek salad - very good. We both ordered scallops - fantastic ! And shared a flan- outstanding !! Service was just the right amount of attentiveness. I want to go again to try some more dishes that looked interesting."

  • "We've been wanting to try SoDo for about 6 months and were not disappointed! Lovely, contemporary spot, a couple of blocks off the main downtown business district. Thoughtful, creative menu with fresh ingredients, and a nice wine list made for a very enjoyable evening! Has to be one of the top 3 restaurants in Reno. We will definitely go back in the late spring/summer months for outdoor dining!"

  • "My wife and I chose SoDo based on the other ratings on Open Table. We both really enjoyed our experience. The menu offers enough variety to please most palates but to overwhelming. The cocktail list was fun and our drinks were delicious. Service was attentive, but not bothersome. Great place."

  • "I had high expectations ... Probably too high. The food was thoroughly decent, but did not knock my socks off. I had the ribeye which came with an orzo pasta side. The side dish was mushy, moderately flavorful, but very two-dimensional and not terribly interesting. The ribeye was properly cooked, but the steak itself was grisly and fatty. It is very sad to report that my daughter's filet was simply bland. On the other hand, my husband reported that the pork chop was the best of his life. We will likely not go back. There are simply too many options for flavorful, interesting dining, that are more economical."

  • "Started with a reasonably price pinot and shared the calamari app/////most excellent! Then moved on to the hanger steak and Caesar Salad....the hanger steak and accompanying chimichurri was outstanding and highly recommended."

  • "We see the possibility of this being a frequent dinning destination. The food was very tasty, but arrived cold. We were hoping for another Neighborhood Gem. We will be back for second try."

  • "Finally was able to try SoDo after hearing so many great things. The food was amazing from appetizer to desert. The waiter was so attentive and knowledgeable and the Chef even checked in to see how we enjoyed our meal. Loved the quaint atmosphere with the big city food. Will definitely be visiting again and will also try out the lunch menu!"

  • "A little pricey but want to go back for a full meal. Only had appetizers and were a bit heavy, so didn't order more. Next time, will order differently."

  • "Familiar items on the menu but presentation and ingredients are unique. Be adventurous and try somethng new! Staff are friendly and helpful. Loved the purse racks - how thoughtful! I can't wait ti try the summer patio!"

  • "This is my second trip back while visiting and it will not be my last! The food is over the top creative and fantastic. I have been here on business dinners twice now. Great wine, food and feel to the place. At the end of our dinner, a large noisy group of ladies was seated next to us. They were having fun, but were quite loud. Hard to talk. That would be my ONE AND ONLY complaint. Wish that I lived in Reno!"

  • "This was our 2nd time here and the food and service again was excellent. I do like the use of varied different grains and rices to accompany the dishes . Overall a very nice evening."

  • "A nice menu, the servers were knowledgeable and very courteous. Food was very good, nice portions. The only issue I had was the noise level… very difficult to have an intimate conversation… but that is the nature of a busy restaurant with a social ambiance."

  • "Everything exceeded my expectations. Especially liked the house salad. I will be back, and I will be recommending SoDo to family and friends."

  • "Perfect location, walking distance from downtown and not far from midtown, would make a good dinner destination following an afternoon at the Nevada Museum of Art or (as in our case) Sunday afternoon at the Reno Philharmonic. Nice vibe; service if anything was overattentive to the point of obsequiousness, but better that than the other extreme. Decent wine list, a variety of imaginative preparations."

  • "Our steaks were both over cooked and tasted mostly of charcoal. It was our anniversay and we had excellent recommendations that failed to live up to the hype. Not a bad place but overpriced for the lackluster taste."

  • "Came here as a treat with my parents and their friends. Absolutely delicious. Service was outstanding! All so good we came back the following week and it was all just as good! Definitely a new favorite restaurant in Reno. Sad I didn't know about it sooner!"

  • "This restaurant is a great addition to Reno's Midtown area. The food was outstanding, the service was great and we loved the atmosphere. The owners seem to really know what it takes to run a great restaurant."

  • "My first time at SODO but it won't be my last. Super and professional waiters and staff. A tremendous restaurant for not-your-ordinary cuisine. Prices are in-line with other great restaurants in Reno, Nevada. A hidden treasure in the Downtown, but off the beaten path, Area."

  • "We went to SoDo because of their vegetarian and vegan options. So many places have one option if you don't eat animals. Here they had so many all three of us actually were able to order something different! Everything was very good and most of the vegetarian options were veganable! The wine list was very nice as well. We will be back!"

  • "We dined at SoDo about 18 months ago and were not impressed. But we went to First Thursday at the NV Museum of Art and decided that was close... why not give it another try? First, we noted that the ambiance has been softened and upgraded. Nice. The menu has expanded and improved, as well. And finally, the food was terrific and presented well. I had the Brazilian (?) Salmon, my wife the Kale Salad with Scallops. I heard they have a new chef, and it shows. Our Server, Mark, was cheerful an explained the dishes without being pretentious. He also selected a nice glass of wine to go with my salmon, after I finished my cocktail (Don't remember its name, the one with bourbon... too sweet for my taste.) I will be back."

  • "My friends and I dined here for New Year's Eve - the cocktails had the perfect amount of alcohol (not too much, but you knew it was in there), the wine was great and reasonably priced for dining out, the appetizers were great (try the BBQ Pomegranate ribs, they are amazing!), and all our meat dishes were cooked to perfection. We had the ribeye, the filet, a surf-and-turf special, and the Niman Ranch pork chop. A perfect meal from start to finish! Can't wait to go back!"
