The result is a quiet, intimate, well-designed room with a very different feel from the main dining room. The main course of pork loin wrapped in bacon on a bed of whipped sun chokes was excellent, tender and complex. The olive oil polenta cake was also a winner, not too sweet, but accompanied by just enough whipped cream and sliced strawberries to brighten it up. We've eaten several times, long time ago, when they just opened. Dine about Town was a good excuse for paying a renewing visit. The menu for the dine about town was different than I saw on the Open Table, except the dessert, I had a salad with sashimi'ish fish, spring vegi risotto and chocolate cake. Everything was very good. My husband was not very sure if he wanted to go after reading reviews from Yelp. But the service we received was very kind and quick. A nice, short walk and we are able to enjoy wonderful food, nice wines and a warm, inviting atmosphere, that is very romantic. This time, the food was still outstanding but we the server seemed to be paying so much attention to the customers at the bar, it took a long time to get his attention at times. It has matured and expanded and the food remains imaginative, delicious, seasonal and fresh. The portion sizes make sense. Great for lunch and dinner. The patio is superb, cozy and warm. Excellent lamb and wine and we sat in their new dining area this time which was really nice - very quiet and view out to indoor dining area so you dont feel closed in. Its now going to be tough to decide next time if we want to sit outside or in this new room. Already recommended it to some people coming up from LA

I was not disappointed. To the contrary, I was excited to see such a varied selection of entres and starters and we treated ourselves to dessert as well. Simply stated all was yummy!! Perhaps because we were among the first to arrive, servings from the kitchen were somewhat slow to arrive at the table. None the less once there, it was worth the wait. I enjoyed chicken pot pie, my wife gnocci and our guest, mushroom lasagne. I am sure that I could always find a dish to love on this menu! This time around it was white bean bruschetta and papperdelle with braised duck, peas, and truffle. Better than the food was the elegant care given by the sommelier and waiter. They were always there just at the second that we wanted something...uncanny. Greeat wine selection, both Italian and Californian. The braised duck I could have had again and again, it was delicious. My steak was small but perfectly cooked. The artichoke potato gratin was not my favorite. The artichoke made this side really crunchy and not enjoyable to swallow. I could have had a small tapa plate of just the hedgehog mushrooms.
Vino Nobile was wonderful. The wine expert gave the best presentation about the region, what grapes, what flavors we could expect, etc. This made the evening more special. Upon arriving we were seated outside in their courtyard. They also have inside seating as well as another large room that looks like it can accomodate a large private party. Food was deilcious and after we ordered, they recommended a white wine that went perfectly with our food. I couldn;t have asked for more from Sociale! The food was great - I especially liked the dungeness crab salad and the whole branzino. The duck ragu pasta was also very good. My third visit in 2013 - the other two were even a notch better. This restaurant has become one of the best 25 or so restaurants in San Francisco. They recently added a third dining area and the staff has risen to the challenge. Always an interesting menu and the wine list (and wine service) is one of the very best in the city; great for Italian wine geeks.
