It has matured and expanded and the food remains imaginative, delicious, seasonal and fresh. The portion sizes make sense. Great for lunch and dinner. The patio is superb, cozy and warm. This restaurant has become one of the best 25 or so restaurants in San Francisco. They recently added a third dining area and the staff has risen to the challenge. Always an interesting menu and the wine list (and wine service) is one of the very best in the city; great for Italian wine geeks. Excellent lamb and wine and we sat in their new dining area this time which was really nice - very quiet and view out to indoor dining area so you dont feel closed in. Its now going to be tough to decide next time if we want to sit outside or in this new room. Already recommended it to some people coming up from LA

I was not disappointed. To the contrary, I was excited to see such a varied selection of entres and starters and we treated ourselves to dessert as well. Simply stated all was yummy!! Perhaps because we were among the first to arrive, servings from the kitchen were somewhat slow to arrive at the table. None the less once there, it was worth the wait. I enjoyed chicken pot pie, my wife gnocci and our guest, mushroom lasagne. I am sure that I could always find a dish to love on this menu! This time around it was white bean bruschetta and papperdelle with braised duck, peas, and truffle. Better than the food was the elegant care given by the sommelier and waiter. They were always there just at the second that we wanted something...uncanny. Greeat wine selection, both Italian and Californian. I'd definitely like to come back soon for lunch in their patio area, with very effective warming lamps!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMComing BackThe fried olives were perfect to get started, nice and hot. The braised duck I could have had again and again, it was delicious. My steak was small but perfectly cooked. The artichoke potato gratin was not my favorite. The artichoke made this side really crunchy and not enjoyable to swallow. I could have had a small tapa plate of just the hedgehog mushrooms.
Vino Nobile was wonderful. The wine expert gave the best presentation about the region, what grapes, what flavors we could expect, etc. This made the evening more special. The service was really on the ball and she us plenty of time in between dishes.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Service - Perect meal.Had the most wonderful lunch. Upon arriving we were seated outside in their courtyard. They also have inside seating as well as another large room that looks like it can accomodate a large private party. Food was deilcious and after we ordered, they recommended a white wine that went perfectly with our food. I couldn;t have asked for more from Sociale! Great experience all around for a special birthday dinner, with great food, attentive service, and amazing ambiance. We will be coming back very soon.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThree of us celebrated birthdaysThree of us celebrated birthdays on Tuesday and the staff made sure we had 2 special desserts presented to us with a candle, very nice touch as I had not made mention of this event when I made the reservation. Staff helped pick 2 nice wines for us to try, perfect.Love the photos on the walls.Only problem with the day was that I got a parking ticket around the corner for not curbing my wheel on a 3% grade and I lost a favorite earring, not Sociale's fault but did make for a unhappy experience in SF Parking is awful in that neighborhood.Hope to come back in the warmer weather and eat outside.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMoutstanding service with excellentoutstanding service with excellent menu.
