Diner Reviews
  • "I had my birthday dinner at Social and had an excellent experience. The drinks were excellent and the wine selection is endless. I ordered the flat-iron steak, which was grilled to perfection and tasted excellent. Our waitress was VERY attentive, getting on our nerves occasionally but I'd rather have a waitress check too often than never check at all. My only negative was the sound level, which I should expect during peak dinner hours but I had to lean in to hear my date. Overall an excellent dining experience I highly recommend, just don't expect it to be quiet."

  • "Was looking for a nice place to take my girlfriend out on our first night in Charleston and found Social to be the perfect spot. The wine list was extensive and the waitress was knowledgeable on food/wine pairings. We got a pizza and I got the stuffed chicken. Both were excellent with the chicken so moist it melted in your mouth and the brie and apple pizza was unique and delicious! Will definitely return when in town again."

  • "Food was great wine too but the intimidate look is deceiving in pics. Had a great time but would not set this up as an "intimate" date night again. I guess it's true to it's name and the noise level reflects it."

  • "Our overall experience was great. The food was AMAZING and so fresh! We will definitely be going back. Our server was very knowledgeable about our wine choices"

  • "The food preparations were very good all around. I really enjoyed the pork cheeks. Unfortunately, the restaurant is so loud that conversation is almost impossible. Our party of 4 had to yell at each other just to get short sentences across. The noise is not just from the music, but the harsh acoustics of the space."

  • "The food was very good; however, the 1 hour wait between courses was ridiculous. Management tried their best, but it took 3 hours to eat a simple meal. Just too long."

  • "We are from a local area, and always visit Charleston for special occasions. We have been wanting to try SNOB, and after using Open Table, we finally got in! The mouthwatering food, the complimentary champaign to celebrate our marriage, the stellar service, the classy decor, and putting us in a special private booth ...all top notch! We highly recommend this venue and will be sure we always make in each time we are in town!"

  • "Grimy inside (esp the window looking into the kitchen...eww!!), spaced out staff, so-so food. Spend your money at one of the money other Charleston restaurants."

  • "Very extensive wine list and modern american food choices- service was quick but at no expense to the food and everyone was very friendly- by 8 o'clock the place was full especially around the bar scene."

  • "We thought we'd take advantage of Charleston Restaurant Week and try a new spot. Long story short, we think this place makes for a good wine bar/bar, but should probably give up on being a full restaurant. The appetizers and desserts were tasty, but both of our entrees went unfinished. I went with the braised pork and my wife went with the fish. As stated, neither were very tasty and after a few bites we let the server take them. The service itself wasn't that great either. There was an extremely long wait for our entrees once we were finished with the appetizers (close to an hour). With the many many choices of restaurants in Charleston, this will be one that we will not be returning to."

  • "We have been here numerous times and it never disappoints us. What great food, wine and service. I HIGHLY recommend this quaint place to anyone that loves a good happy hour and great wine!!"

  • "I visited for Restaurant Week. The food was outstanding. The service was pretty good. The scenery was great. The only negative was the noise level. I had a headache by the time I left because of the noise level. If you are young, then go here; the noise level wont bother you. However, if you want a slower pace, peace, and quiet type outing, then go somewhere else."

  • "This dinner was an unexpected and wonderful experience. The food was extraordinary. We first experienced Social through a mixology tour and thought this would make a nice place to come back to for a drink and snacks. When Social showed up on Restaurant Week, we saw this as an opportunity to return. The food from appetizer (Seared Diver Scallops) to dessert (I had White Chocolate Pot de Crème) was fantastic. I'm not sure why, but I was not expecting such top-notch food from what I thought was a neighborhood bar. And add to that the wine parings with each course, and excellent service, we had a delightful night and will come back again and again."

  • "Overall, had we not been on a double set the exerience would have been alright. But the company and atmosphere of the restaurant was nice! The food wasn't that great. I wasn't impressed with the desserts either. They also use far too much salt in their meals."

  • "Took my sister and her husband for restaurant week and were pleasantly surprised at the offerings. an excellent variety of choices for appetizers, entrees and desserts. We elected to include the wine pairings with each course. The food was excellent and the wine pairings were just right. The portions for both the food and wine were the same as you would get if you ordered from the regular menu ( I have been to places during restaurant week that reduce portions). The service was attentive but not intrusive. Fabulous wine list with plenty of "by the glass" options. I definitely recommend the restaurant."

  • "My wife's swordfish was fine, but I ordered lamb and it was badly overlooked. They have young guys in the kitchen, no experienced chef. Also, I ordered two glasses of red wine ($5.50) and was charged the price for "flights" (double the price for a glass. Very deceptive."

  • "My husband and I had such a wonderful evening at the restaurant . It was referred to us by our son who was there last year with a group of friends . The Sunday wine special was AWSOME ! The service was impeccable ! We will be back next year when we come to Charleston from Colorado . Thank you and Happy New Year !"

  • "the service here is nothing to write home about. This place is good for large groups and has a menu that will easily accommodate large parties with varying tastes (pizzas, wine flights). Do not come here expecting to be able to hold a conversation with someone - you will be better suited elsewhere. Also, do not expect good service, I just don't think it is part of the restaurant model here. Pizzas were good but a bit heavy on the cheese. Fish (black drum) was overlooked and underseasoned. Stick to the pizzas and salads and you'll be fine."

  • "Great food and service. Perfect ambiance. My wife and I sat by a large window looking into the kitchen. The kitchen staff looked like they were having as much fun cooking the food as we were having eating it. Every little detail of each dish was perfect."

  • "The Social Restaurant and Wine Bar has amazing service! The flights of wine were large pours and a fun way to try different types of wine. The pizza was worth the wait and gave us time to enjoy the atmosphere. Great place for a date night!"

  • "The food was not that great. Our server did not take the time to explain the menu. The chicken dish was the most disappointing. Nothing on the menu was kid oriented. The wine was very good, and I think other selections instead of a dinner might have been a better choice."

  • "Dining options were limited since it was over Christmas. Liked sitting upstairs but perhaps that is why we weren't well attended. Wanted the drum as an entree but they were out of it; opted for the pork cheeks which were good but the vegetables were overcooked. Husband had very tough flank steak and equally dismal sides. Waitress brought the wrong order to start with, left one of the plates on the table then returned 10 minutes later with the other. Not my best dining experience"

  • "We arrived early and although slammed full of customers, we some how managed to be seated quickly. The menu can be a little difficult to read, so if you're not a regular, take the time to look online. Wait staff and service was outstanding! The food was very well prepared and presented. Wine is available in Flights to compliment your meal choices. From start to finish, every expectation was met. (Reservations are a must for good reason)."

  • "We needed to find a place in town for christmas dinner where two vegetarians, a picky 13 year old and a foodie (me) would all find something to satisfy. This ended up being the perfect venue for us. The pizza was excellent. I really enjoyed the wine tastings (called "flights"). Of the appetizers the bruschetta was a disappointment but the rice balls were fantastic. I ordered the stuffed chicken which was over seasoned in my opinion. The highlight of my meal was actually the arugula and fennel salad which was probably one of the best salads I've ever had. The service was excellent and all in all we had a lovely holiday meal."

  • "This is my second time going to Social Restaurant and Wine Bar, and will not be my last. Known for its extensive wine list, and great "flights" of wine -- where for a very reasonable price you get to try three half glasses of similar wines with your meal, I was happily pleased with excellent food - some of the best in Charleston! My wife had the Braised Lamb Pave (crispy lamb shoulder) -- really tasteful, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and I had the Seared Black Drum > Squash Purée, Baby Bok Choy, Pumpkin Seed Gremolata. And I started out with the Caesar salad with Fried Boquerones (fried anchovies!). And Justine was a great waitress. Highly Recommend"

  • "Great visual experience. Wall hangings are very interesting and the food is outstanding if a little high priced the wine courses are excellent. I have eaten here twice and would return"

  • "I have eaten here a few times and the coq au vin pizza is yummy and the potato chips with blue cheese are a great appitizer. The ceasar salad I didnt like I wish they had better salads to choose from maybe an iceberg wedge."

  • "Used Open Table to find this outstanding restaurant with great service,,,, very gratified with the result! The wine parings were impressive and reasonably priced."

  • "We were happy to find this lively wine bar when visiting Charleston recently. The menu was cleverly put together and each entree was paired with a suggested flight of three wines. Our one and only criticism is that the red wines were served too warm, which I might accept in a restaurant that did not specialize in wines, but this is a real downer for a wine bar."
