A word from Socarrat Paella Bar - Nolita
Socarrat Nolita's ambience denotes feelings of warmth, comfort and hospitality. Building on its sister restaurant's identity as a small, intimate space comprised primarily of one large communal table, the restaurant also offers banquette, bar and table seating.

Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.

Socarrat Nolita also offers several tapas, wines by the glass, Spanish desserts, and sangria.

Diner Reviews
  • "A friend recommended Socarrat saying has the best paella outside of Spain. He was right. The tapas was great too."

  • "Had the pork belly for the appetizer and it was very good. Shared the paella and it was very good. More than enough for 2! Will be back."

  • "bad points: 1. too noisy (everybody is almost shouting to speak) 2. too dark (you don't see what you eat. Seeing the plate you are going to eat is another pleasure that has been taken away) 3. too salty (The Socarrat paella was a made with salt....I am joking but there was too much salt) Good point The service was quick and kind"

  • "Soccarat since its inception has always been my go to place for the best tapas and paellas in NYC. I've tried a ton of other tapas places that claim to be authentic but none hit it on the money like this place. The food, service and ambience is always amazing and everyone whom I introduce ends up coming back and bringing their friends and family! Its really a gem and thankfully theres more than one location! Lolo Manso is a culinary genius!"

  • "I brought my parents here and they loved it! They need more waiters, especially when it gets crowded, but overall we had a great time!"

  • "The grill squid was excellent and the service is great, but the the paella was a disappointment. I have been seraching good paella lately, but this place failed the recommendation. No saffron, not much flavor, rice was a bit undercooked. I guess after a while, chef just doni cook as the way they started."

  • "It's my first time try Spanish food. I like paella. Highly recommend paella and red sangria. The waiter splited one of our wine and offered us five champagne for free. Great place for hangout after shopping in soho."

  • "The seafood paella is the best I've ever had. We were there for Restaurant week. ."

  • "We originally wanted to do the restaurant week menu but decided to do the Happy Hour 50% off Tapas and $6 drinks. This location is not as nice as the Chelsea one and the Tapas are a bit not as carefully prepared as full price dishes. But the price is still very good."

  • "I made a reservation for 2:30 for restaurant week and got there with my friends on time. The place was empty and we were seated right away. One friend didn't show up until an hour later but the waitresses didn't bother us about it and just allowed us to wait. However, I would say it's kind of deceitful that the waitress who poured us "sparkling water" did not tell us the price nor did we see it on the menu. Still, she was very friendly and checked on us frequently. We ordered the two paellas and the seafood one was absolutely delicious, a bit on the salty side. The other paella was too tomato-y. We shared churros con cholate for dessert. I would prefer if each of us had our own paella and dessert."

  • "One of my favorites in NYC. A perfect date spot, whether it is a first date or not. Skip the basic Italian restaurant and enjoy some fabulous tapas and paella."

  • "We visited Soccarat as part of a week-long trip to NYC, and also whilst the NYC Food/Restaurant week was on so many restauarants (including Soccarat) had fixed price menus for lunch and dinner. We chose the fixed price dinner menu and enjoyed fabulous tapas and paella. Lovely flavours, authentic paella. There was a wine special also which was great value and a good drop. All together happy with the meal."

  • "I recommended this place for my mother - I made this particular reservation for my mother and her long time bff who was visiting from the west coast. They both came back telling me "It was wonderful". The hostess and servers welcomed them warmly and they enjoyed the variety of tapas that was on the menu. Friendly staff and Tasty Food!"

  • "Like the shrimp of appetizer and the pear salad (although the blue cheese is a little bit sweet); for paella, rice is relatively less than expected, beef is good though. Don't really like the dessert, it's not healthy and too sweet. Professional waiters. Like the window seat."

  • "The food was salty. The gambas en ajillo were dry."

  • "Food quality was a pleasant surprise. Brought me right back to Spain. Very relaxed staff, which set the tone for the experience. Can be intimate as well as communal. Food did not disappoint. Well trained, informative staff. Offered great suggestions and was not let down. They ran out of Churros and hot chocolate, so they comped our next selection for dessert. Was so good that my fiancé and I went back a second time later that week. I will be going back again and again."

  • "My wife and I are regulars at Socarrat Nolita. We're big paella fans and theirs is the best we've found anywhere."

  • "It's a fun place, got a bit noisy but we enjoyed ourselves. Of particular note were the octopus tapas as well as the two we got on flatbreads (one being sardines). Like so many Spanish places, they require two people order paella so we didn't get to try it. The waitress, who was from Barcelona, was delightful."

  • "Socarrat is best for groups of 4-6 that allow to taste at least 2-3 paellas and multiple tapas. As a Spain vet of 30+ years, I can truly say that Lolo Manso has done a great job of bringing Spain's flavors to NYC!"

  • "Delicious Socarrat & Carne Paella crusted baked on flavored rice delicious. Notable appetizers, Fried Green Tomatoes, Plato Camparo. Also delicious red Sangria. Would not recommend going during any big sporting games unless you like hubbub, TV's are loud. seating a little cramped. Nice to sit near the sidewalk. Great deal Sunday through Thursday Happy Hour."

  • "Food was great, but service left a lot to be desired. In fact, we had to stand to call waiter many times, and we felt generally ignored. No one checked on us, unless we stood to call them. They were busy, but as someone who has worked in restaurants before, I can attest that a busy Friday night is normal. I will order take out but would be hesitant to return. "

  • "We've been to all Soccarat locations and loved the overall experience. Saturday evening's experience was exceptional, too, from our very solicitous server to the food. There was a downside, though, as we entered. We were 20 minutes late for our reservations and our host made us "especially" aware of it. Our first "moment of truth" was not pleasant. There was no warmth in the welcome, it almost felt like we had to be grateful we were being seated (it was for early dinner, too)."

  • "My husband is a Spaniard, so we are very picky when it comes to Spanish food. The Socarrat restaurants are first class and the paella is excellent and authentic, right down to the crust under the rice (the socarrat). We were 3 girls and had 4 starters + 1 paella (portion size for 2) and it was the perfect amount of food. The starters were all delicious - we had the iberico jamon with pan tomaca, pimientos de padron, seared tuna and codfish croquetas. For dessert, we recommend the churros. Nice atmosphere that was lively but not too loud for a weeknight dinner. This placed gets very busy on the weekends so recommend making a reservation for a weekday (plan at least a couple days ahead). "

  • "I have always enjoyed this restaurant. The chef makes different tapas not always a set menu. They also make paellas that the chef will create. Maria and Lorete are amazing people that work there! "

  • "I have been to this location 3 times over the span of 3-4 years? This establishment consistently serves delicious food with incredible service every single time. It shows their commitment to their customers' experience and their food. "

  • "The tapas is great. Unfortunately the paellea is not as good. The rice was crispy, either under or overdone...don't know which. Also there should be a distinct taste of saffron.....none or not enough. Portion was small with not enough fish. I was disappointed. The atmosphere is active, the place beautiful...but too noisy for me. Once is enough."

  • "For a paella restuarant at this price point, the least they can do is cooking the rice correctly. Paella rice was undercooked and there was very little food for 60 bucks (2 person order). Very disappointed on the food. Good service and ambience though. "

  • "My friends took me there on a visit down from Toronto. I wanted to take my husband. Everything was delicious as expected. Service was prompt and courteous. Though it wasn't as dark and moody as I recall, maybe later in the evening they turn the lights down? I very much appreciated hearing mostly patron chatter, rather than loud music - a chronic problem in Toronto. My only complaint: stop the staff from punctuating every with interaction with customers with 'guys' i.e. "Is everything okay guys?" or "Be right with you guys!" or "Thank you guys". Bit déclassée of management if you ask me."

  • "I always loved the Chelsea location but it's so small it practically feels like an afterthought. But this location has literally the same feel, food, service and wine list without the tight quarters, neither hips hitting you as new guests arrive, nor discomfort of knowing the next table is hearing your latest confession to your best friend. I LOVE it. ¡Magnifico!"

  • "We tried 50% of the Tapas on the menu and they were all very very good. The Croquettas, Shrimp and bacon wrapped dates = yum! No complaint with any of our tapas what so ever! The Squid Ink Paella is highly recommended! The Carnivore & Lobster Paella was good, but was too salty for our palette. Their Paella's are meant to serve 2ppl, but I think it can feed 4ppl especially if you're getting the tapas. *reservations is highly recommended*"

  • "Paella can't be beat here - it's always good. I've been twice to the Nolita location - sometimes it's packed - but even then it's fun. Went on a Monday also when it wasn't full - but still fantastic food. Rare place where there is a thriving night scene and the food is good too. If you want to try authentic paellas, this is a good bet."

  • "Paella is one of our favorite foods and Socarrat on Mulberry has never disappointed us. On a recent visit, the place was lively and full of customers but that didn't prevent quick, skillful service. The pear salad had an interesting vibe, the shrimp in garlic sauce was so flavorful and the Socarrat Paella was full of the most delicious fish, shellfish and meat. We will be back!"
