A word from Socarrat Paella Bar - Nolita
Socarrat Nolita's ambience denotes feelings of warmth, comfort and hospitality. Building on its sister restaurant's identity as a small, intimate space comprised primarily of one large communal table, the restaurant also offers banquet, bar and table seating.

Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.

Socarrat Nolita also offers several tapas, wines by the glass, Spanish desserts, and sangria.

Socarrat is our favorite restaurant for paella. The menu includes a nice variety of paella dishes, both standard and creative recipes. It is worth a subway ride from midtown for special ocassions - but a little too pricy (food & wine) for frequent visits.

My husband adores Paella and totally indulged in the black, Squid Ink Sea food Paella while I munched on their tapas. I had the razor clams and the pork belly which was fabulous! This place is perfect for a casual dinner since the scene and restaurant are very much on the laid back side.

Always excellent paella (the black squid ink is our favorite) -- and of course, the socarrat makes the dish. Tapas are also always excellent -- we loved the green tomato. The only disappointment was the Sangria. We ordered a full carafe and it had only 4 small glasses (we were 5). It was served in a small pitcher filled to capacity with ice cubes and obviously very little wine! We've dined here several times and never experienced this before (could they have run out of pre-made Sangria for the night?).

Worst paella ever! Tomato sauce tasted like sweet italian tomato sauce from a jar, no saffron added, no additional spices, condiments, and or vegetables used in the cooking. Shrimp and calamari were tough, and lobster was a minuscule portion. Rice was burnt. The paella for two was seriously overpriced. There are better places in the tristate area where to eat paella and tapas - that by the way will happily accept forms of payment other than cash only - as in this restaurant. The only plus for this restaurant was the red sangria. The hostess said that once we try the paella we will be back to the restaurant for sure. Guess what dear hostess… you are totally wrong. We will never go back!

We went for dinner during restaurant week. We arrived 10 min early so we understand a little wait but it took us 40 min to get seated. It wouldn't have been too bad had we not been starving! The hostess however was lovely. She gave us complementary drinks and an appetizer at the bar. She couldn't apologize to is enough for the wait. So we did appreciate that. The fried artichokes were so delicious. The walnut salad was very tasty as well. Ordered fiduea- the noodle paella. We weren't too impressed being this is a paella bar! The chicken in the paella was too greasy. Lastly our churros for dessert left much to be desired as well. I'm not sure if it was because it was late and was the last batch but they didn't taste as fresh as I'd like.

bad points: 1. too noisy (everybody is almost shouting to speak) 2. too dark (you don't see what you eat. Seeing the plate you are going to eat is another pleasure that has been taken away) 3. too salty (The Socarrat paella was a made with salt....I am joking but there was too much salt) Good point The service was quick and kind

Soccarat since its inception has always been my go to place for the best tapas and paellas in NYC. I've tried a ton of other tapas places that claim to be authentic but none hit it on the money like this place. The food, service and ambience is always amazing and everyone whom I introduce ends up coming back and bringing their friends and family! Its really a gem and thankfully theres more than one location! Lolo Manso is a culinary genius!

The grill squid was excellent and the service is great, but the the paella was a disappointment. I have been seraching good paella lately, but this place failed the recommendation. No saffron, not much flavor, rice was a bit undercooked. I guess after a while, chef just doni cook as the way they started.

We originally wanted to do the restaurant week menu but decided to do the Happy Hour 50% off Tapas and $6 drinks. This location is not as nice as the Chelsea one and the Tapas are a bit not as carefully prepared as full price dishes. But the price is still very good.

I made a reservation for 2:30 for restaurant week and got there with my friends on time. The place was empty and we were seated right away. One friend didn't show up until an hour later but the waitresses didn't bother us about it and just allowed us to wait. However, I would say it's kind of deceitful that the waitress who poured us "sparkling water" did not tell us the price nor did we see it on the menu. Still, she was very friendly and checked on us frequently. We ordered the two paellas and the seafood one was absolutely delicious, a bit on the salty side. The other paella was too tomato-y. We shared churros con cholate for dessert. I would prefer if each of us had our own paella and dessert.

We visited Soccarat as part of a week-long trip to NYC, and also whilst the NYC Food/Restaurant week was on so many restauarants (including Soccarat) had fixed price menus for lunch and dinner. We chose the fixed price dinner menu and enjoyed fabulous tapas and paella. Lovely flavours, authentic paella. There was a wine special also which was great value and a good drop. All together happy with the meal.

Like the shrimp of appetizer and the pear salad (although the blue cheese is a little bit sweet); for paella, rice is relatively less than expected, beef is good though. Don't really like the dessert, it's not healthy and too sweet. Professional waiters. Like the window seat.

Food quality was a pleasant surprise. Brought me right back to Spain. Very relaxed staff, which set the tone for the experience. Can be intimate as well as communal. Food did not disappoint. Well trained, informative staff. Offered great suggestions and was not let down. They ran out of Churros and hot chocolate, so they comped our next selection for dessert. Was so good that my fiancé and I went back a second time later that week. I will be going back again and again.

It's a fun place, got a bit noisy but we enjoyed ourselves. Of particular note were the octopus tapas as well as the two we got on flatbreads (one being sardines). Like so many Spanish places, they require two people order paella so we didn't get to try it. The waitress, who was from Barcelona, was delightful.

Food was great, but service left a lot to be desired. In fact, we had to stand to call waiter many times, and we felt generally ignored. No one checked on us, unless we stood to call them. They were busy, but as someone who has worked in restaurants before, I can attest that a busy Friday night is normal. I will order take out but would be hesitant to return.

We've been to all Soccarat locations and loved the overall experience. Saturday evening's experience was exceptional, too, from our very solicitous server to the food. There was a downside, though, as we entered. We were 20 minutes late for our reservations and our host made us "especially" aware of it. Our first "moment of truth" was not pleasant. There was no warmth in the welcome, it almost felt like we had to be grateful we were being seated (it was for early dinner, too).

My husband is a Spaniard, so we are very picky when it comes to Spanish food. The Socarrat restaurants are first class and the paella is excellent and authentic, right down to the crust under the rice (the socarrat). We were 3 girls and had 4 starters + 1 paella (portion size for 2) and it was the perfect amount of food. The starters were all delicious - we had the iberico jamon with pan tomaca, pimientos de padron, seared tuna and codfish croquetas. For dessert, we recommend the churros. Nice atmosphere that was lively but not too loud for a weeknight dinner. This placed gets very busy on the weekends so recommend making a reservation for a weekday (plan at least a couple days ahead).

The tapas is great. Unfortunately the paellea is not as good. The rice was crispy, either under or overdone...don't know which. Also there should be a distinct taste of saffron.....none or not enough. Portion was small with not enough fish. I was disappointed. The atmosphere is active, the place beautiful...but too noisy for me. Once is enough.

For a paella restuarant at this price point, the least they can do is cooking the rice correctly. Paella rice was undercooked and there was very little food for 60 bucks (2 person order). Very disappointed on the food. Good service and ambience though.
