Socarrat Midtown EastOutstanding PaellaPreviously, we have eaten at the W 14th St location. I enjoyed the meat paella for one (single portions only available at lunch). It compared well with those I've eaten in Valencia, Spain. Two others in our party ordered the seafood paella and it was excellent. It does taste somewhat different than the traditional seafood paella of Valencia. Mainly, the Spanish broth is difficult to duplicate. I prefer the Socarrat version because the broth is not as "fishy." The appetizers looked and tasted like the real Spanish versions. We will definitely return. The staff did not seem bothered that we brought our sixteen month old daughter along. In fact, you might call this a kid friendly restaurant at lunch. Not sure about dinner.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPaella for OneThough only at lunch, this is one of the few restaurants that serves single servings of paella, cooked to order. It comes to you in a cast iron skillet, the aroma of toasted rice coming from the pan. Another rarity is the caramelized, toasted bottom that is considered a delicacy. This is where our restaurant gets its name. Where many (very good) paellas come to you with a moist firm rice top to bottom, the cast iron skillet does to rice what it does to potatoes, give you a crispy crust of starchy goodness. A skillet is more than enough for lunch, but my friend and I could not resist tapas to start. We recomend the paella de la Huerta with artichoke, cauliflower, eggplant and snow peas and Pescados & Mariscos with fish, shrimp and shellfish.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and funMet up with a friend for a drink and tapas. Three hours later we were still there having a great time. We ordered items one and two at a time and felt no pressure to hurry up. Our server and bus boy were delightful. Will definitely go back soon!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing!Loved everything about the whole experience here!!!!! Socarrat is fantastic, in both senses of the word!
