A word from Socarrat Midtown East
“Socarrat” is that delectable, scrumptious crust that forms at the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice has reached its peak of succulence. In other words, “socarrat” is the result of paella cooked to perfection. To us, we have come to think of “Socarrat” as a standard of perfection to aim for in everything we do.

We look forward to sharing the best flavors of Spain with you. SALUD!

  • "consistency in quality needs serious improvement. please work on this."

  • "We were a bit stuck with somewhere to eat that wasn't going to cost $$$$, and found this place very lively for a Sunday evening. Starters were good, and obviously you have to have paella for main course. We chose the meat option (allergy to seafood), and it tasted great. Really generous portions for the price, and the deserts were good too. Always nice to see when a restaurant has multiple locations around the city, as this one does, as you know it must be doing something right."

  • "Our experience was affected by the general state of confusion of the wait staff, who misled us on the specials and who also told us incorrect information on the size of the dishes we ordered and the number of people they would serve. We ended up spending far more than we should have ... the tab would have been about 40% less ... if we had been properly informed about the lunch special ... we ate virtually the same food! This is a huge criticism of the wait staff. That being said, the food was indeed delicious and the portions were ample. We would go back, but carefully."

  • "A friend came into town and we wanted to go downtown but could not make the logistics work and I found Soccart East thru opentable. I ate at the Soccarat in Soho about 2 years ago and was pleasantly surprised to see that they have opened a resturant in mid town. The Paella is great and their signature dish, and a perfect meal to share as well as the tapas or small plates. Resturant is small and has a downtown edge and a great bar which gives the resturant a relaxed ambience. Definitely fun for groups all the food is totally shareable!"

  • "Socarrat serves a great paella. The word Socarrat means the slightly burnt rice at the bottom of the paella...before serving, stir well so that the burnt rice mixes with the rest and you will get the best possible flavor!!"

  • "this place is great from drinks (reina mora), tapas (Seared Tuna), and Paella (carne), usually i seat at the bar for happy hour with 5 dollars sangria ( need to take advantage of this deal) then i moved to a table. this places is getting better and better"

  • "We love the Nolita location and for both locations, the food is fantastic. Problem is that the first floor of Midtown is really more of a bar than a restaurant and service reflects that. There was a group of 8 in the middle which made the noise level insane (my head is still pounding from the noise level) so that we couldn't speak across the table (we were two people) without shouting. Bigger problem was service - half the time our server and hostess were flirting/chatting/hanging with the bartender and you had to wave your arms to get any attention. It was like that throughout the meal - that said, the waitress was pleasant and friendly just rarely available. I would return to Nolita but would think twice about the Midtown location."

  • "We went for happy hour and it was staggering to order so much really good food and see a check that didn't break your wallet. Will def be back here soon. Our bartender was excellent, as well. Don't remember her name, but it started with an "F" and she was amazing...kept everyone's glasses and plates full."

  • "While overall a great experience, I was a little disappointed. While a bit overpriced, the tapas were out do this world. The paella however, was a little disappointing, considering it calls itself a paella bar. We had wait almost 45 minutes to get the paella that was specifically made for us and when we did, the paella was cold and the portion was lacking. Also the seating of the restaurant was on top of each other so take that into consideration. Overall though a good experience. Would definitely go back for the tapas!"

  • "I've been here a couple of times. They have amazing food (I personally love Spanish cuisine). Great drinks too - definitely try their Sangria! Every single person who works there is friendly and always has a smile on their face. Wonderful experience all in all."

  • "The food is always great here, very solid! The portions are big and pergect for sharing. Best to start with the appetizers and move on to the paella. YUM!, YUM! Always fantastic"

  • "Restaurant was very accomodating of our changing guest total. Had a really sweet and competent waitress, Diana who had a very good feel for the ingredients in each dish. Tapas were good especially the brussel sprouts and fried Artichokes. We ordered the signature and Squid ink paellas and boy were they yummy. In our party of 6 adults/ one toddler, next time I would order Paella for 5 and delay two tapas to be served with the Paella to save money since I'm sure no one completey empties the pan given the generous servings. We will return!"

  • "I had a dinner with my six other friends there last night. Our table was a window table on 2FL and the table was big enough and nice spot, but it was a bit too cold for us due to the big window in this cold weather... Tapas was a bit smaller than other tapas place, but their paella (We ordered their original paella and squid ink one) was very good. I can recommend if you want to enjoy Spanish tapas in either small or big group in Midtown East."

  • "We went to Spain for 2 weeks this summer. The paella at Socarrat is better than what we had there (although we didn't get to Valencia). The food here is terrific, and the tapas are absolutely authentic. We also loved the pitcher of Cava Sangria. Great place."

  • "This is my go to place for Tapas. I've been to some other places but keep coming back here. I feel they have more selection and good sangria."

  • "While not as intimate or fun as the Chelsea location, the food is good and the place is relaxing at brunch on a weekend."

  • "Paella was one of the best in NYC and we dine here many times before. However the hostess had not showed a respect to the repeated customers. We were seated the table we had requested first, then removed to uncomfortable table because she said she needed to connect to next table to make it for the party of four and we did not have much choice as 2 pax. Nobody came at that table and still plenty of seats available to make table 4 or even 6 for next 2 hours. She may have thought we were out of town tourists because we had a shopping bag. Definitely she made us feel we were not important."

  • "My Lunch experience - horrible. We flagged down our server to order, I anticipated a wait for my paella, and finally when I got it - just looking at my paella - I knew it should not have left the kitchen. I flagged down the waiter - I told him it was burnt, charred and bitter - He said "Ma'am, I can assure you that us how Paella is served" ... I was livid and said No that is not how paella is served, And it's not how your Chelsea location serves it. I sent it back. I didn't appreciate his tone - it was condescending - so I got the seafood soupy rice, the manager assured me it was delicious; well it wasn't - too salty and so was my friend's soup. $25/each for lunch, not worth it - never ever dining here again."

  • "my girlfriend and I went to Socarrat on Sunday night, the place was kind of quite until we went upstairs, wow nice cozy decor I felt like home, everyone was really nice an attentive, from the hostess to servers even the manager checking our meal, we had croquettes and the tuna, after that we had a a meat paella, and finished w this fried chocolates balls...wow!!!!!. Overall the food was great and the services as well, can't wait to comeback again."

  • "The food was very enjoyable, but not as good as the Socarrat in Chelsea. Delicious appetizers but the paella could have used a few more shrimp & mussles."

  • "Very close to Paella in Spain. One of the best in NYC. If you come to lunch, you can order the individual portion and taste different kinds."

  • "I had a great time at Socarrat, the paella was huge it took about 30min but the server told me about the timing, so we order some tapas to start tuna, croquetas and something with pork that i dont remember, then the paella came and whole new experience started, services was on point, (was concern about some previous reviews), nothing to complain about it. 100% i will comeback again that now i found out the have a happy hour"

  • "Great spot for a romantic and delicious date. The paella menu is fantastic and has something for everyone's palette. Attentive service, cozy seating and great overall vibe."

  • "Food was good... but service was poor... waitress seemed disinterested and fave misleading information about one dish and failed to explain that paella price was per person... and despite the fact that we said we wanted to split it we were charged for two people."
    Dined on 12/20/2013
  • "We reserved for six two weeks in advance and they tried to put us at the bar. We had eaten dinner many times upstairs. Hostess said it upstairs was not open at lunch and all large tables were reserved.. We said we would find another place if they didn't seat us at a table. Manager finally did. Then we noticed other groups being led upstairs. Shame cause their tapas is first rate and well priced."
    Dined on 12/18/2013
  • "There is no mention on the menu that the paella is for 2 people, so if one person wants to order it, you have to pay double the price listed. The sad part is I have had better paella, so it was not worth it. Certainly miss Zarella's!"
    Dined on 12/10/2013
  • "I met a friend here for tapas and wine after work; we did not have the paella. The hostess did not credit my Open Table reservation even thought I mentioned it when I came in (although my friend was already seated). I found our server rather disinterested and snooty - he couldn't seem to be bothered to actually listen to what wines we wanted. One of the hot dishes arrived lukewarm at best, but they brought it back hot and almost refilled. I guess these could be criteria for a worse review, but since they left us alone to chat and chew and drink, and it was a happy busy spot that provided a good atmosphere for what we wanted, I gave it a good review. Perhaps they pay better attention to diners who order paella meals rather than tapas."

  • "Bad service very rude male waiter he lacked people skills. He spilled a glass of red wine over us not even replaced the glass. We went to a concert with wine stains. We are Very Disappointed with they way he treated us arrogant and dismissive."

  • "Because we were one of the first people there, there wasn't anyone else upstairs at that time. However, throughout the entire evening, I had to ask for the same thing at least twice- the waiter either forgot or kept making excuses for his ineptitude. I kept feeling anxious to make sure the waiter didnt forget to bring me hot sauce, hot tea, etc. Also, I informed one of the workers that the heater from the ceiling was too strong and to let me know if we could change seats. However, the waiter didnt come by to address the issue (ask me if everything was ok, see if we could change seats, etc.) I felt that the service ruined something that could have been a nice experience."

  • "Sorry to agree w/others who experienced poor service. Not my first time at this restaurant, but sadly will be my last.Has totally changed and become a place where they are only interested in turning tables ever so quickly. I understand needing to keep things moving, but this was ridiculous! Within a minute of being seated, the waiter came over and asked us if we were ready to order; he then hovered and asked every minute. We ordered main entrees, appetizers, coctails, dessert/coffee yet while we were still eating, they were pulling silverware/glasses/utensils off of the table! It was so rude, and we were not slow eaters. Is it new management? Have to find another paella restaurant this was also so loud you could not hear yourself think!"

  • "We sat down as a party of 5 and it took 15 minutes for someone to come over to us. We ask 3 people to find our waiter, and each person looks at us with a "don't bother me" expression. Half of the paella was burnt to the bottom of the pan and tasted like salt, rice, and dry seafood. Finding the waiter to order more proved to be the next difficult challenge. It was like the staff forgot that they were working for tips or to even wait on customers. Finding our waiter to get the check was the final obstacle. We asked another waiter, watched him tell our waiter, and he still took another 10 minutes to do it. Then, we got the check, and this place had the nerve to add a 20% gratuity to the bill. I guess it all seemed to make sense in the end."
