I had the appetizer special - shrimp ceviche in a grilled avocado half; the avocado was HARD. Not worth $18. The tuna entree was very good. They were out of the creme brulee dessert, so I ordered pears and apples in brandy/caramel sauce over ice cream. By the time I got it, half the ice cream was melted and it was a soupy mess. The restaurant wasn't crowded; I was an early diner. I sat there for 15 minutes while waiters congregated to discuss work schedule before my server finally took my drink order.

We celebrated our anniversary at SO and were very happy with our experience. Seafood dishes were excellent, with interesting (and very tasty) sauces, purees, and garnishes made from root vegetables, herbs, etc. Wine was stand-out, although they were out of our first choice. Noise level was a little on the high side, but overall atmosphere was pleasant, warm, inviting.

We enjoyed our dinner very much. The seafood was very fresh and prepared in a very pleasing way. We never felt rushed and enjoyed taking our time with each course. The parking is a little difficult in that area but the restaurant has valet parking. Your other option would be to park a few blocks away and walk. We were seated close to the bar so it was a little noisier than we would have liked. Next time, I will ask for a table in the back room.

  • Best in Little Rock!

    Dined on 6/15/2014
I never expected to find such a fine restaurant in Little Rock.; San Francisco, Boston, Paris, maybe. It is located in a charming neighborhood and well worth the drive. We visited one night from Nashville and it was the highlight of our trip! Be very careful not to miss it ... it's just a little doorway in a long building with other doors and windows. It is on the left side of the building and to the right of the garden. The Seafood Fondue was perfect and the Chocolate Sack was as every chocolate dessert should be, to die for. Our service was attentive yet subtle. The room temperature was on the cold side ... a sweater worked well for me ... and thanks for the warning from an earlier review. I can hardly wait to go back!

  • VERY GOOD RESTAURANT IN LITTLE ROCK
    BIRTHDAY
    Dined on 6/14/2014
We went to SO Restaurant for a special occasion. It was quite a pleasant surprise. The French-style serving was accompanied by a romantic setting. They have a very good wine list, if not a bit pricey. The food was delicious. Be prepared to pay a moderate bill. It's not cheap. My companion had the coffee crusted filet. It was delicious. I had the grilled scallops that melted in my mouth. The service was outstanding. The only drawback was an extensive wait for our reserved table. We were able to get around that, however, by having a great glass of wine at the bar.

A group of friends and I dined at SO in late May. I used a dinner voucher, for four, which I had won at a Silent Auction at my work place. Two additional members of my party paid for their meals. We were treating a colleague who was leaving to take another job.The food was great but it took three hours for the food to be served. The long wait time between courses was inexcusable. This will not deter me from choosing to dine at SO again, however, I and other members of my party were really disappointed because of the poor service.

I took my wife here for a Mother's Day dinner, (interesting side note is that it is hard to find a nice restaurant that is open on Sunday night). The service was friendly and helpful and we were seated in the front window table. Food was very good, recommend the Fondue! The only drawback was that the air conditioner was blasting! We were freezing cold. The server tried to fix it but to no avail. Anyway, I would absolutely recomend this place and plan to eat there again.

So is a very good restaurant, with a solid menu of high-quality food at its core. Highlights include excellent sushi-grade tuna, duck, and steaks. The service is usually very good, and the decor is superb. Like all restaurants, Saturday nights can be a bit trying, loud, and demanding on the kitchen. Still, as always, the waitstaff and kitchen kept pace. So deservedly remains in our top rotation.

Of the three dinners we had Saturday evening, the scallops were very good. The lamb was bland, carrots were hard. The Halibut was overlooked, green beans uncooked. I don't like my veggies over- cooked but with dinner I don't like them raw. Service was great.

We had a great dinner Saturday night before the Rep at SO in Hillcrest. Easy to make reservations on Open Table- we were seated at the best table in front window overlooking Kavanaugh. Very good valet service which was much needed on a rainy Sat night. Accomodated our requests to adjust temperature and stereo sound quickly. Server was excellent with good food suggestions and knowledgeable of the extensive wine. I had House Salad, Grilled Halibut, and White Chocolate Creme Brulee. Husband had Scallops and wine flights. Both dinners were of the highest quality and the veggie sides were not overlooked. Beautiful plate presentation. This is a wonderful special occasion restaurant, allow time for a leisurely meal.

The food at So is very good, but it has gotten increasingly more expensive. The prices are mostly breathtakingly high for a city the size of Little Rock. In deed the prices are higher than some high end restaurants in major market places. The service is attentive, but it takes a long time for courses to be served - not bad if you plan to make a long evening out to dinner, but be forewarned that it is not the place to go if you want to get out quickly. And at the cost, you will want to make this a leisurely enjoyed dining experience.

This restaurant was highly recommended by a reliable friend, and was a little disappointing. I ordered the rib-eye, and it was definitely not bad, but nowhere near as good as other fine dining restaurants I have been to. The main disappointment was the service, but I believe this was waiter specific. The other tables seemed to have attentive, courteous waiters. Ours was not attentive, and seemed very aloof. I will probably return to this restaurant, because there are other dishes that sounded good, the other waiters did well, and I trust my friend. But, this initial experience was not so good.

I took my wife here on the day after valentines day. It was not busy at all when we arrived, so we were seated and service was great for about 20 minutes. More people started showing up and we did not see our waiter for almost 15 minutes multiple times. The filet mignon was juicy and tender but didn't really have flavor and the asperagus was quite over cooked. It was definitely not worth the outrageous amount I spent that night.

My group and I tried this Little Rock treasure, and had a great time. The crab cake with fried green tomatoes are spectacular as was the blackened seafood fondue. The French onion soup had a few too many dashes of salt, which really is the only critique our table had in regards to anything negative to be said. The "New Fashioned" was excellent, so order it if you like whiskey.

Went there New Year's eve. Were visiting from out of town. Reservation was for 8:30. Were not seated until well after 9. Did not get food until well after 10. My teenage son didn't get his crab dinner until we were all almost finished. He got three crab claws. My impression is that the restaurant was totally unprepared for New Year's eve crowd. Many other customers were complaining about service.

The last time that I ate at SO they presented me with uncooked pork chops. I did not return for quite some time, but thought that I would give them one more chance by going back for lunch. Their lunch menu is totally unacceptable. There are a decided lack of choices on the menu. I ordered a tenderloin sandwich and caesar salad. The romaine leaves were as big as the plate and the dressing was not what I would call caesar. The sandwich contained luke warm meat. My wife ordered what was called a salad, but was almost totally inedible. The lobster meat was watery and tasteless. Fool me once, ok. Twice and you are out.
