  • "Snack Taverna's long been a neighborhood favorite."

  • "Very good food, very good service, would go again."

  • "We've been to this restaurant may times. A favorite. What happened?A long wait for a drink order, very inattentive service. Tzatziki was so thick you couldn't dip - overpowering yogurt taste. Skordalia was inedible, there was such a raw garlic taste. Only the spinach triangles were tasty. Oddly, the waiter told us to let him know when we wanted to have our dinner served.... of course, couldn't get his attention so we waited forever for our meals. When they came, it also was barely edible. The cod was overcooked, the beans underneath so heavily tasted of vinegar I skipped it completely. My husband's lamb shank was equally awful. Orzo overcooked and missing flavor. Took forever to get our check, even though the restaurant was half empty."

  • "I have been to this restaurant many times. I took friends and family with me and everyone has enjoyed it. The Greek salad, beet salad and sautéed calamari with gigante beans are very good! The staff is friendly. It is a small restaurant, book a table or go off hours to enjoy it more!"

  • "Love this place! Such good Greek food, fairly authentic. Service is good, although it took longer than usual to get our drinks, and the server informed us that the chef prefers entire orders all at once, instead of ordering apps first and then mains. A little odd to tell us but wasn't an issue."

  • "This is a nice cozy place for dinner. Don't let the name fool you, it's a real restaurant. The lamb triangles and taramosalata starters were my favorite. The lamb shank was tasty and big enough for 2."

  • "Just not great. Service is oddly attitude-y, music is too harsh, food just ok. Could be cute but misses."
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "Snack Taverna has many of the classic Greek items on the menu as well as imaginative and super tasty modern dishes based on Greek flavors and ingredients. The staff are friendly and helpful, the interior has a warm, glowing look that's perfect for a date or for dinner with friends... Been coming here for years and yet it feels special every time we eat here. "

  • "What a treat this choice turned out to be. I loved the menu and the service was personal and attentive. I wouldn't hesitate to go here again and the location is very cute, tucked into a corner location. We had a terrific lunch and I honestly could have ordered the whole menu it was that appealing."

  • "The food is delicious but the evening Ivwas there. The noise level was almost unbearable. You practically had to yell to be heard. "
    Dined on 5/19/2014
  • "I shared the two special appetizers with a friend 1) a beet and kale salad and 2) baked feta with roasted peppers and tomatoes and I had the meatballs as my entree. All were served with warm pita. Everything was very fresh and perfectly seasoned. Can't wait to go back! "

  • "Whatever you do, end your meal with the grilled saganaki cheese. It's like eating grilled cheese without the bread. So crispy and delicious. We shared the Greek salad (the small is ideal for two), the spanakopita, the zucchini fritters, the shrimp and tomatoes. The food came quickly and was fresh and delicious, without flaw. Service was pleasant and unobtrusive. The prices are slightly high but it's worth it when a restaurant truly gets it right, which this one did. The baklava is also perfect for two to share. Very close to the Barrow Street Theater. Atmosphere was quiet and the tables were not on top of each other, a boon."

  • "Add brunch as another notable Snack Taverna feature. Of course Mimosas and Bloody Marys are available but the restaurant's unique take on egg dishes Greek style can not be found anywhere in NYC. In addition there are other choices that are not found on the usual Brunch menu. See for yourself."

  • "Snack Taverna on Bedford St. is very special. The Greek specialties are some of the best in NYC - especially the Greek Salad and the Taramosalata. Both are a must."

  • "We selected Snack Taverna because it was near the Barrow Street theater. It turned out to be a wonderful choice. The wait staff was very professional and efficient. Food was excellent and unique for a neighborhood place. Highly recommend this charming and tasteful restaurant."

  • "I grew up in NYC and never knew about this place. It has a strange entrance and you might be told to walk up to the third floor to what looks like a private residence. The place is on multiple levels and is a nod to old NY as it is charming and British pub like. He had the coolest waiter. I loved that they only serve double buttered spuds and no fries."

  • "This is a lovely restaurant with a charming atmosphere, tucked away on Bedford -- the best of the city while feeling slightly removed from it. The food is exceptional; everything tastes very fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The fava (yellow split pea puree) may not sound sexy but it's fantastically delicious, the beet salad is wonderful, and the saganki is the best kind of comfort food -- but you probably don't need me to tell you fried cheese is good. Veal meatballs also heavenly. The service is enthusiastic, sweet, and sometimes slightly amateur (very attentive but then you need to request pita or another round more than once, for instance), but in a charming neighborhood-y kind of way."

  • "Just loved Snack Tavern as did my friends. Tastiest Baklava I ever enjoyed, yummy lamb burger w smooth cheese, veal meatballs delicious, also best grape leaves ever. Loved the meze dips especially the caviar. Had a lovely chicken soup infused w lemon. I found the flavors wonderfully subtle & not overdone. Warm & friendly service. A gem!"

  • "We had a terrific meal here Christmas Eve looking for a light supper. We enjoyed super tasty Saganaki, Melitzanosalata (eggplant salad), and Horta followed by a moist rosemary chicken, the best veal meatballs ever and zucchini fritters. Tried a nice wine by the glass, a pinot gris-- from Greece as are most of the wines. The service was stellar, attentive and friendly but not intrusive. When we plowed through the pita, they brought extra. Pleasant decor and comfortable setting. After all the holiday music everywhere, it was so nice to have mellow jazz and other background music to set the mood. We highly recommend Snack Taverna."

  • "Our first and definitely not our last dining experience at Snack Taverna was a great success. The entire wait staff was friendly and very helpful in explaining the menu and recommending dishes. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. The appetizer of baked feta was a treat, the Greek salad was a wonderful mix of chopped tomatoes, onions and cucumber with feta , all very fresh and tossed in a light olive oil dressing. Our main courses were equally delicious and fairly priced for the ingredients and portion size. We met some friends from out of town here and they loved the restaurant as well. Though small, the restaurant is decorated to make. you feel as if you are sitting in a small taverna in Greece, very warm and welcoming"

  • "I recently started working near Snack Taverna, and always looking for a great new place to meet friends or colleagues for breakfast or lunch. Met a friend a month ago for breakfast and had the lamb & eggs, which may be one of the best breakfast or brunch dishes ever. Savory, spicy, lamb-y goodness. Then came with my daughter for lunch--tsatsiki is cuke and garlic heaven. Great grilled vegetables and the lamb burger among the best I've ever had. Very attentive service. Was mostly empty between noon & 1pm on a pre-Xmas Friday but I imagine it's hopping evenings."

  • "Four of us had a really nice meal and experience at Snack Taverna. Good food, nice service, tasty wine. The only negative: we were sitting at a table in the middle of the (tiny) restaurant, and felt slightly crowded; the servers had a hard time getting around us. A pretty minor thing. Small plates are perfect for sharing."
