We've been to Snack Taverna several times and it is consistently great Greek food in a charming West Village bistro setting. I dream about the butter beans with feta and this visit I had the stuffed pepper entree which was just delicious! Best stuffed pepper I've ever had. Meat and fish dishes are usually just as pleasing. Eat here!

There is no denying that the food at Snack is really delicious. The casual neighborhood atmosphere is perfect too. But ... Service falls short every time, with diners struggling to get the attention of wait staff. One can put up with that actually if you have plenty of time, but forgetting to bring half the table's order and leaving empty dirty plates on the table for 20 minutes isn't so nice.

Great ambience and definitely a neighborhood gem! Service was prompt too (although wasn't sure why we had so many different servers for such a tiny place). Beware though of the noise level - it gets really loud so you have to shout at times and hence not great for a romantic date. Food was good but really small portions for the price. I got one stuffed red pepper with a lot of rice and mashed yuca for $22.

We've been to this restaurant may times. A favorite. What happened?A long wait for a drink order, very inattentive service. Tzatziki was so thick you couldn't dip - overpowering yogurt taste. Skordalia was inedible, there was such a raw garlic taste. Only the spinach triangles were tasty. Oddly, the waiter told us to let him know when we wanted to have our dinner served.... of course, couldn't get his attention so we waited forever for our meals. When they came, it also was barely edible. The cod was overcooked, the beans underneath so heavily tasted of vinegar I skipped it completely. My husband's lamb shank was equally awful. Orzo overcooked and missing flavor. Took forever to get our check, even though the restaurant was half empty.

Love this place! Such good Greek food, fairly authentic. Service is good, although it took longer than usual to get our drinks, and the server informed us that the chef prefers entire orders all at once, instead of ordering apps first and then mains. A little odd to tell us but wasn't an issue.

Whatever you do, end your meal with the grilled saganaki cheese. It's like eating grilled cheese without the bread. So crispy and delicious. We shared the Greek salad (the small is ideal for two), the spanakopita, the zucchini fritters, the shrimp and tomatoes. The food came quickly and was fresh and delicious, without flaw. Service was pleasant and unobtrusive. The prices are slightly high but it's worth it when a restaurant truly gets it right, which this one did. The baklava is also perfect for two to share. Very close to the Barrow Street Theater. Atmosphere was quiet and the tables were not on top of each other, a boon.

I grew up in NYC and never knew about this place. It has a strange entrance and you might be told to walk up to the third floor to what looks like a private residence. The place is on multiple levels and is a nod to old NY as it is charming and British pub like. He had the coolest waiter. I loved that they only serve double buttered spuds and no fries.

This is a lovely restaurant with a charming atmosphere, tucked away on Bedford -- the best of the city while feeling slightly removed from it. The food is exceptional; everything tastes very fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The fava (yellow split pea puree) may not sound sexy but it's fantastically delicious, the beet salad is wonderful, and the saganki is the best kind of comfort food -- but you probably don't need me to tell you fried cheese is good. Veal meatballs also heavenly. The service is enthusiastic, sweet, and sometimes slightly amateur (very attentive but then you need to request pita or another round more than once, for instance), but in a charming neighborhood-y kind of way.

We had a terrific meal here Christmas Eve looking for a light supper. We enjoyed super tasty Saganaki, Melitzanosalata (eggplant salad), and Horta followed by a moist rosemary chicken, the best veal meatballs ever and zucchini fritters. Tried a nice wine by the glass, a pinot gris-- from Greece as are most of the wines. The service was stellar, attentive and friendly but not intrusive. When we plowed through the pita, they brought extra. Pleasant decor and comfortable setting. After all the holiday music everywhere, it was so nice to have mellow jazz and other background music to set the mood. We highly recommend Snack Taverna.

Our first and definitely not our last dining experience at Snack Taverna was a great success. The entire wait staff was friendly and very helpful in explaining the menu and recommending dishes. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. The appetizer of baked feta was a treat, the Greek salad was a wonderful mix of chopped tomatoes, onions and cucumber with feta , all very fresh and tossed in a light olive oil dressing. Our main courses were equally delicious and fairly priced for the ingredients and portion size. We met some friends from out of town here and they loved the restaurant as well. Though small, the restaurant is decorated to make. you feel as if you are sitting in a small taverna in Greece, very warm and welcoming

I recently started working near Snack Taverna, and always looking for a great new place to meet friends or colleagues for breakfast or lunch. Met a friend a month ago for breakfast and had the lamb & eggs, which may be one of the best breakfast or brunch dishes ever. Savory, spicy, lamb-y goodness. Then came with my daughter for lunch--tsatsiki is cuke and garlic heaven. Great grilled vegetables and the lamb burger among the best I've ever had. Very attentive service. Was mostly empty between noon & 1pm on a pre-Xmas Friday but I imagine it's hopping evenings.
