A word from Smuggler's Inn
Originally established in 1967, Smuggler's has been serving Alberta prime rib to several generations. Always a popular place for Calgarians to gather and celebrate, we are the preferred dining choice for birthdays, anniversaries, milestones or just meeting friends and family. Our prime rib is the main feature of our diverse menu, available all day, every day any way you like it. From a 7oz. prime rib sandwich, all the way up to a 48oz cut, our succulent prime rib is sure to please any appetite. Cajun blackened is always a popular choice, as is adding a lobster tail or side of garlic shrimp. Of course there is a creative selection of steaks, chicken and seafood to satisfy everyone. With a soup and salad bar included with every entree, not many guests leave hungry, but it would be a great idea if you saved room for one of our delicious desserts...even if you plan on sharing.

  • "Smugglers inn has been our special occasion restaurant for many years. The ambiance and food are classic however we have noticed a decline in the quality of the salad bar. On our last visit the salad was wilted, the steak soup had no steak in it and the jello was mangled."

  • "We were disappointed that the patio was closed on what was probably our last opportunity this summer to sit outside and have a drink in sunny, warm weather. But, we were given a nice table inside and the food was great, as always."

  • "We booked for a group of 6 to celebrate a friends Birthday. Food was fantastic n so were the selections for drinks. Highly recommend this to celebrate any occasions. Server was good but did forget a few of our drinks as people staggered in for our table."

  • "I really enjoyed the salad bar and the soups - Had the Portuguese soup, it was the perfect balance of spicy hot and sweet. Very nice. We had the filet Mignon and the seafood platter - They were both done to perfection. Wow - the one skillet of Mushrooms could easily feed 3 people! There service was excellent - friendly, yet professional. The decor was great for those of us who are looking for a different atmosphere - Really fun medieval. The washrooms downstairs, however, were not so great. These really need a reno."

  • "A nice night out, to enjoy good food as a reasonable price. Salad bar a bit iffy but prime rib was excellent and generously cut."

  • "This was the Resturaunt my husband proposed to me at. I think we were even seated at the same table. Good to see there hasn't been much change including the wooden menus. Food was still delicious & waiter was very polite."

  • "The prime rib and the steak soup are unbeatable in my eyes! I don't care for horseradish but theirs is cut with sour cream and I can't get enough! One complaint is all the noisy families and bright lights. We are used to a darker, quieter and cozier atmosphere, later in the evening they finally dimmed the lights. Very sweet of them to give us a dessert complimentary because it was our anniversary!"

  • "Great food,Great service,BUT the table next to us with a screaming child and parents that do nothing about it, DESTROYED our special night out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • "generally we have a great experience; we are fairly regular guests. this visit was for our 21st anniversary and it was a bit of a let down. food was good; beer kind of tasted off, service was really slow (wasn't really that busy), service lacked, got drinks, got food, got the bill and that was about it. no, hows the food, did you need anything etc...."

  • "We come here fairly frequently and the food is always up to our expectations. Tonight I had to wait for my steak as it inadvertently was overcooked and a new steak was prepared. This one was perfect. We were given our coffees for free because of the wait but i think perhaps my dessert could have been added as it was a least a 10-15 min wait. However everyone was very apologetic and the food was all very good so I'm happy enough. This is one of my favorite places in Calgary and certainly these things happen."

  • "Fantastic, we were able to make the reservation for a birthday brunch easily 2 weeks before hand online, which they followed up with a phone call 2 days before to confirm and remind. The buffet selection was fantastic for everyone from the 3 year old to the pickiest of our eaters, me! As well they were constantly checking and resupplying, the hot was hot and the cold was cold. Our server was fantastic, he checked on us often, interacted well with the 3 year old, keeping our glasses full and dirty plates disappeared quickly. They also didn't rush us out the door and let us leisurely take our time over 2 hours. We have been here before and we keep coming back."

  • "Friends were in from out of town and Smugglers Inn is our preferred eatery. Rib steaks and beef ribs are always cooked to perfection. This visit one of our group tried the pork ribs and was blown away by the taste and tenderness. We always seem to get Derek as our waiter and if you are lucky, you will as well."

  • "I recall really liking Smugglers for brunch, and loving Tango for all meals. However, this time, the Smugglers/Tango brunch was... meh. It wasn't terrible, but some dishes were cold or not super. The dessert table was excellent, but you know, it's breakfast, so the amount of dessert permissible is debatable (apparently). The omelette station was nice. Overall, brunch was ok... but for $23, I expect better. Definitely go to Tango for lunch or dinner, though!"

  • "Courteous service personel. Great for a romantic evening. Food is simply amaizing. Fine selection of wine. I cannot say enough about this establishment. If you enjoy prime rib this is the place for you. Can't wait till I go back. One of Calgarys hidden gems. Highly recommended."

  • "Moments after we sat down, our server gave us a warm welcome — and hot coffee (which he refilled promptly throughout the meal). Smugglers' was off to a good start. The brunch buffet selection was impressive, but what really stood out was the quality of the food. The bacon was cooked perfectly but also seasoned with something to give it a slightly more sophisticated flavour. The sausages were made of meat that was definitely a few cuts above what is usually found in breakfast sausage. The prime rib was good, but not outstanding. There were no rare or medium cuts available, and my piece lacked flavour. The deserts were similar—good but not exceptional. Still, for brunch, they were quite nice. Overall: fair price, good food, great service"

  • "Everything was fine. We had the seafood platter. Large lobster, 3 large scallops and 3 large shrimp. Nice salad bar. It was loud, we had to raise our voice to speak with each other. I felt like I was yelling at the waiter. They put too many table in the room, crowded in."

  • "I have been to Smugglers a few times over the years and have really enjoyed it. It's one of my father's favourites, so I thought it would be a nice treat to take him there for his birthday. We were both very disappointed. The soups on the salad bar were devoid of anything but liquid... the beef ribs i ordered were (I am quite sure) from costco - that's ok for home (if you don't know how to cook), but not for a nice meal out. The rare 'Owners and Friends' prime rib that my dad ordered was so tough, and so sinewy, that if the 'Owner' did in fact serve it to her or his friends, they wouldn't be friends for long. Don't think we'll be coming back - not for a long while anyway..."

  • "This is a stellar restaurant if you want to go somewhere with excellent service, great food and attentive service. It is also one of the few restaurants that still offer a soup and salad bar, which was totally delicious. No complaints whatsoever and because they were busy, I was very thankful to have had the opportunity to reserve a nice table in advance for our daughter's birthday celebration. We were seated as soon as we arrived. We never had to wait for anything in the entire 2 hours we were there. We will definitely go back again on another special occasion to try other delicious items on their menu."

  • "We have been going to Smugglers since 1976. It has never wavered in service, good food and the cost of the food is reasonable. Soup and salad bar come with your meal and the mud pie is outstanding!"

  • "First time going to a restaurant where the waiter did not greet and introduce himself. He also did not ask if we were finished with the dish and took the plate away, we had to ask for it back. He was definitely NOT worth the standard gratuity that was automatically added to the big for a large group. Otherwise if it was not because of the prime rib we would never be back."

  • "We were seated immediately, and the waiter greeted us right away. The service was impeccable. The salad bar had a great variety of vegetables, salads, dressings, everything was fresh and colourful. There was a choice of 3 soups the 2 we had were delicious, hot and filling. Variety of buns were available, and my husband sampled all, and enjoyed them all, especially the cheese rolls. Our main course was fantastic, presentation was nicely done, and the waiter returned numerous times to see if we needed anything, constantly refilling our water. He brought us a special dessert, mud pie with a candle for dessert. All in all a great dining experience, as usual."

  • "We are very very old patrons of smugglers, the food is great, I specifically asked for a nice quite table. ..near a window , I also said it was for a special birthday and we were the hosts.I did get there when the other couples were seated, but I did not get what I wanted, and until I told our very nice waitress there was no indication of why we were there.I just didn't feel the occasion was special and did not get what we wanted."

  • "Smuggler's is one of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, they did not live up to our expectations this time. My steak was excellent, but my husband had to have a second one prepared because the first one was severely overcooked. The second one was not much better. Very disappointing."

  • "Arrived with out of town visitors for a 7 PM reservation. Seating was prompt and timely. I was surprised to find the bean soup on the evening menu...woohoo! My wife and I have dined at Smugglers on several previous occasions and always enjoyed the experience and the food. The staff are friendly and well informed about the menu. Smugglers is a great experience day or night."

  • "Soup and salad bar were great but the entries weren't as good as we have had in the past. My wife and daughter had the Cajun chicken which is supposed to be blackened but not have the charred, burnt taste and very, very dry. The waiter told us it is supposed to be black. I don't think that black is suppose to be charred black. I had the salmon and it was overcooked and dry. My son's had the steak and they were good and others had prime rib and it was great."
