Unbeknownst to me, I had chosen to order the Bar B Que beef ribs which I didn't realize were not normally available on the lunch menu. Rachel and the kitchen staff made it happen! I was thrilled and the ribs were sensational. Not to mention our server was amazing, I don't know how many times i can say the food was so delish. the Salad bar was great, with a ton of selection. The staff were all friendly, the service was spectacler. I enjoyed the meal, it was superb. The cocktails were nice and there is nothing I can complain about. Our server was excellent. He was there at the right moments but wasn't an annoyance by showing up too much. My daughter and I were able to enjoy great conversation, even though there were children nearby it wasn't overly noisy. The price was incredibly reasonable, and the service was GREAT - very friendly, very prompt, and very attentive. The food was exactly as I remember which had always been excellent. Professional friendly servers and prompt attention when required. If you arer looking for that old friend whom you forgot because you moved away or that fabulous leeather jacket that you thought was out of style you realize its time to re-connect. Smugglers isn't re-inventing the wheel they have done that with all of the other spinoffs which have pared this restaurant down to 150 ish seating capacity(down from 500+ in its heyday). I've been in the city for 10 years but first time to the Smugglers for a friend's birthday. Portion is huge plus a full salad bar. Steaks are cooked perfectly. My favorite mocktail was taken off the menu several years ago but so far I have been lucky - the bartender seems to still know my drink and be able to make it - which is part of the charm of this place! I was disappointed with the wine list as there were no descriptions or ratings of the wines. Our waiter did recommend a red that turned out to be very good. The wine prices are very reasonable.
One glitch for our party of six was my meal arriving far ahead of the rest. The waiter did apologize but didn't know what happened in the kitchen.
The menu offers a great variety of dishes but the prime rib and beef bones are still outstanding.
I had mentioned we were celebrating a birthday so a good-sized dessert arrived without the embarrassment of a chorus of struggling singers.
