Smörgås Chef Restaurant serves up super fresh seafood and prime meats based on centuries of Scandinavian & European culinary traditions. Zagat Survey says Smörgås Chef is "a refreshing change of pace", and Village Voice claims the food is "Damn Good."

Smörgås Chef's authentic Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberries have become famous. The New York Post calls Smörgås Chef the "Swedish Meatball Mecca" of New York. Smörgås Chef has also become known for its roasted rack of lamb with a goat cheese Sherry sauce, and its oven-baked Cod from the Kenai Peninsula.

For lunch, you will find a smorgasbord of open-face Scandinavian sandwiches like Cold water Shrimp, Smoked Salmon with Egg & Chives, and Chicken Caramel with Norwegian goat cheese and asparagus. The restaurant is open for dinner too and the Centre has many evening prgrams which makes the whole evenet a very pleasant experience."

  • "The location within the Scandinavian Center adds to an ambiance conducive to a quiet restful lunch or dinner. It is often possible to see a film or art exhibit before or after the meal. The food has an obvious Nordic bias and is both tasty and healthy with natural ingredients. A friendly and attentive service add to the appeal."

  • "One of the reasons I went to NY recently was to eat Swedish food at this restaurant. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. The staff was extremely attentive and considerate. I was there near closing time and it wasn't busy, so I got to interact with four staff members - all of which were very nice. And the atmosphere is fun and creative. My only criticism was that the menu should be as complete as the restaurant they have downtown. I came for the steak and was surprised it wasn't on the menu at this Park Avenue location. But the Swedish meatball dish was great!"

  • "What a terrific find!! My son and I dined at Smorgas Chef after a full day visiting various sights in NYC. It was absolutely perfect. The staff was friendly but not overbearing, the ambience serene and restful, the food was fresh and delicious. The kale salad and seafood chowder were both amazing. Give it a try---you won't be disappointed!!"

  • "We had been to the museum at the Scandinavia House recently and noticed the lovely restaurant so we decided to give it a try for brunch. The dining room itself is beautiful, the service excellent. The brunch was great and everything we tried was delicious. Don't skip dessert and be sure to try the Eggs Benedict Trio and the Princess Cake. There is even a beautiful gift shop to browse in after your meal. We will be back again."

  • "Definitely a refreshing brunch. We all really enjoyed the generous use of gravlax in the dishes, the egg dishes were great, the salad tasted fresh and the dressing great, and the side of gratin is amazing. I could eat a whole pan of it! The restaurant itself was charming, quiet and calm (what many brunch places that are too hip lack), and it made us feel like we could actually be in Helsinki or Stockholm at that moment. Thank you!"

I met my college pals here for a late lunch and we shared dishes and were able to sit and chat over a bottle of wine far longer than most other places would allow. The menu is fun and different and I highly recommend it."
