Smoking Dog Bistro,TheWe had a great meal with visitingWe had a great meal with visiting family. So pleased with the new chef. It was quiet, but expect it to be very busy when the word gets out about the food. Delicious!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodMy husband and I had a fantastic meal at the Smoking Dog. The presentation of the food was outstanding and we enjoyed the wonderful combinations of flavours.
It was just a shame that on a Thursday evening we were the only people dining at the restaurant as it impacted the ambience and feel of the restaurant. We will definitely be back soon.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely a hidden gemManagement had changed in last 2 months and the food is spectacular. Service was great and food was surprisingly better than hoped. Hope they do well as it was very quiet when we were there at 6PM on a Tuesday night but it seemed to get a little busier when we left. Appetizer to meal was outstanding; dessert wasn't too bad but not as good as the meal. Definitely recommended.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMNice neighbourhood bistroHaving lunched enjoyably at the Smoking Dog several times, we decided to give the dinner menu a try. Although not extensive, the menu offers a nice selection of appetisers and mains. The food is well prepared and presented and the pacing of the courses was excellent. I had a lovely green salad, followed by scallops, both dishes were very tasty. My husband opted for the Dungeness crab starter and ling cod main course. He enjoyed both, but felt the crab was a bit overwhelmed. We had to rush off for the theatre, so we did not get to enjoy dessert this time around, but I'm sure we'll be back for dinner again sometime soon.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWas there few years ago andWas there few years ago and it was mediocre. This time th food changed for the best. Great service by a nice French girl who is a lot of fun
Will go back!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMNew ManagementNew chef, new management and new menu. The food was well prepared and the wine list was marked down to clear stock (a bottle of 2010 Mercurey for $44) Food was french themed in general but did offer 3 risotto options. I could be wrong but I didn't think the rice used was arborio or carnaroli as it seemed to me to have a longer finer grain and less starch. Vegetarian options available. The plan is to rebrand in the fall so the Smoking Dog will be no more. The frisee with lardons and poached egg was classic. The frisee was incredibly fresh and lightly dressed. The halibut with fennel and fingerling potatoes was cooked to perfection.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food!We had a great romantic evening. The restaurant is under new management. The food is delicious, new staff is fantastic. Restaurant was quiet on a Saturday evening 9pm reservation. It was raining that night and the streets and other venues in the area were very quiet. This was to our advantage as it seemed more romantic to have that time together with my husband. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and will definitely be returning. The food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative fresh local foodA new team and chef with a really good menu. The service was great, food absolutely fantastic and the wine, great value as they were clearing out the existing stock. My trout was cooked perfectly and my husband and son loved their choices. Worth a visit.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAn underrated gem. Haven'tAn underrated gem. Haven't been for long time... since change of ownership. Food was outstanding and very reasonably priced. Service was excellent. Was very quiet the evening we were there for such good food. However, server says it is unpredictable... some nights are busy, others not. Tried two different salads (iceberg and beetroot) and entrees were strip loin and portobello risotto... all were very good and beautifully presented.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
