Diner Reviews
  • "Nothing at all special about this restaurant. The food was ordinary albeit simple and palatable, the service not terribly good (one server was constyantly standing around texting and flirting with another server, the beer list ordinary also....what else can one say? In a city with huge competition from very good restaurants this one does not shine."

  • "As a visitor to Philly, I choose Smokin' Betty's for a Saturday lunch based on their lunch menu. However, once we arrived at the restaurant, we found out that they only serve from their Brunch menu on Saturdays; items from the lunch menu were not available. While disappointed, the food we did order off the brunch menu was very good, and plentiful."

  • "I had high hopes but was sadly disappointed. I had the ribs with a dry rub and applesauce as a side dish. Unfortunately the ribs were also dry and bland and the applesauce was not much to write about. I never had applesauce with lumps. It wasn't chunky throughout, but rather a few large lumps and lacking an "apple flavor". A dining companion (dessert connoisseur) had the chocolate cake and sent it back because it was too dry, she even tried adding ice cream. Another of our group had the Buffalo chicken sandwich and was satisfied. A bit noisy so I wouldn't recommend to others. Service was quick."

  • "We were seated promptly for a special occasion lunch for 8. The table was sticky, service was slooooow. We waited about 10 minutes to be offered beverages and waited more than 45 minutes for luke-warm meals to arrive."

  • "This was my first time and the food was very good. My friend and I got there in time for the last of happy hour and they had some very good deals. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I will definitely be going back."

  • "title says it all. It is close to the Walnut Street Theater, so we go for a pre theater dinner. Food is great, service friendly, but the restaurant is noisy. Still our go to for pre theater!"

  • "I had an incredible burger grilled to perfection with pork belly confit, avocado, and an egg on it. The fries were delicious as well. THe rest of the menu items also looked great, it was hard to decide. It's a little loud, but we were also seated next to a boisterous and large group of overgrown frat boys with kazoos and eye patches, so that my have contributed to the noise level. All in all a great meal!"

  • "I eat here at least every other month or so and each time the service is the BEST and they are friendly and comfortable with everyone including some of us older Philadelphians. The menu has something for every one. I had the quinoa salad (my first time) and I knew they would make it well and they did. Love this place."

  • "Had a delicious brunch before heading to the Car Show. Eggs Benedict was very tasty and I enjoyed the Sausage Gravy and biscuits as well as an eggs and hash browns plate. Service was great and I had a great time with great company!"

  • "We went here after walking the Flower Show, it was a 5 minute walk from the Convention Center. My friend had a Vegetable Risotto and I had a BBQ combo of ribs and chicken with a huge side of broccoli rabe-all very yummy. drinks were well-made, home-made ice cream and chocolate mousse for dessert. We sat and talked for a while, the staff was attentive but not pushy, and we had a lovely afternoon. There is a nice bar section to one side, which was filling up by the time we left. I will definitely go back for dinner."

  • "The only complaint that I have - and this is a silly one - is that their special menu is on a large chalkboard and people are sitting infront of it. My mother ordered the Crab Cake Benny from the specials board and we were thinking.....it did not list a poach egg in the description, and mom cannot eat eggs. I have no idea what the third item was, and the server did not even mention the board. Also, when I looked at the menu online, I did not know that the only menu available on a Sat at 12:30 is the brunch menu."

  • "Upon our arrival we told the hostess that we had reservations but evidently she did not hear us say that because Open Table sent us an e-mail saying we were a no show. When she went to seat us she took us to a table by a window. It was a very cold night and we told her we did not want to sit by the window. Again, evidently she was not listtening because the next table was also by the window and the one we took (after being exasperated) was in a corner next to a window and with a window behind us. Our server was very good and we enjoyed the food. However it was so noisey it was hard to hear each other."

  • "I was looking for a casual restaurant a short walk from the Convention Center. I really enjoyed the neighborhood urban/industrial feel. The host and waiter were friendly and efficient. Enjoyed my fish tacos very much. My dining companion had the pulled pork sandwich. I would definitely return the next time I'm in the vicinity to try the grilled cheese sandwich with pesto."

  • "We went during restaurant week for a late supper and was not impressed with the menu. The beef was too salty. I was hoping it was going be to more restaurant and less bar. Our server wasn't much help on the wine selection. Won't be back."

  • "Great food although it was extremely loud because of the multiple parties that were 10 or more people. Also, the tables by the windows were cold. Other than that, everything was perfect."

  • "We had a great dinner at Smokin' Betty's. The menu had lots of choices and everyone in our group of 6 was pleased with their meal. We got to the restaurant a little early and were welcomed into the bar to wait while they got our table ready. The bar had a great beer selection."

  • "My bf and I went here for the first time on Valentines Day. I'm not picky but he is. This was a perfect spot for your mans man on any occasion. He had the rib and chicken combo with Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. Like had the riblets with the dry rub and a side salad as my meal. The food was amazing! The meat fell right off the bones and the BBQ sauce was excellent. We loved it so much we returned with friends two days later with friends for brunch!"

  • "We came here for Valentines Day dinner. We arrived a little early for our reservation and went to the bar for a cocktail. The bartender took nearly 10 mins to acknowledge me. When we finally got our drinks, we asked him to run the card..he held it. it took another 10 minutes to get his attention. When we were seated we waited and waited again to be acknowledge. I spoke up to one of the waiters (who I saw was amazing). He graciously apologized, brought us waters and let our waitress know we were her table. While she did apologize, she seemed distracted throughout our meal. We had to asked for silverware, refills, extra napkins, etc. Overall, the food was amazing...we will insist on better service next visit though."

  • "I really enjoyed the food and you can't beat the pricing in the city. They followed my request for my husbands birthday just like I had asked. The service was also good with very helpful and friendly staff. My only complaint was the noise level. It was hard to have a conversation even though we were right across from each other. Never the less, I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family and would return again myself. Maybe during an off time to get a quieter atmosphere."

  • "Had a reservation, but was seated at a high top table right next to the bar. Noisy and high traffic area since the restrooms are right next to the table. Food was good, but the seating and the draft from being on the first floor kind of ruined it."

  • "We went for a quick Saturday night dinner before the auto show. The service was good. My husband and I both had burgers. Our waiter told me that medium rare would be red so I opted for medium and the burger came out medium well. Even then it still was not dry next time I would stick with the medium rare because it is easier to send back to cook more. The fries and sweet potato fries were delicious."

  • "My husband and I ate there on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly and our server was at our table quickly. Drinks were brought straight away (although they didn't have any bottled water??). My husband had one of the specials, an organic half chicken breast, which just melted in his mouth. I had a regular menu item, risotto, which was smooth, creamy and flavorful. It was a delightful evening."
