Decided to eat in the city after running some errands. Checked Open Table and found Smokin Betty's. Made an early reservation for 5pm. We were seated immediately upon entering and the service remained good thru the entire meal. Food portions were large and flavorful. The chilli had a great taste.

I've been to Smokin' Betty's for dinner before and enjoyed it. Brunch however is a different experience. I was surprised to see a server scrubbing the floor with a dirty rag as customers were trying to walk by. My friend tried to use the bathroom and the lights were not working. We were not permitted to sit in a window seat although the restaurant only had two other people in it because another server needed to write on the chalk board. What ever happened to being ready to go when the doors open? Our waitress acted like she didn't want to be bothered and had an attitude. The food was okay, but I've certainly had better. With so many brunch options in the city, I would not make this one a priority. You can do MUCH better!

Once we got past the indifferent host staff mostly talking to each other rather than satisfying the numerous parties waiting to get noticed. our visit to this nice Philly restaurant improved tremendously. Overall wait staff, especially waiter were excellent. Food was plentiful with comfort selections on menu able to satisfy even a vegetarian in our 4 person party.Menu Prices were very fair and drinks made well with. Seating was okay , again host staff picked the worst table first just because it was easy for them. I would recommend this neighborhood gem for a typical night out when you want straight forward good southern food specialties with a flare.

Food was so good!!! I haven't had a good meal in a while, and I'm so glad to have come here. My only issues were that the hostess and waitress wasn't very inviting, and that they had us seated close to outside on an evening that wasn't warm.

This is a great place for open-air dining, and it was the perfect evening for it. Our server struck the right balance of attentive, warm and unobtrusive. The hostess was not as friendly. It was Restaurant Week; so we went with their three course menu, which was actually four. The food experience was generally fair. The sangria was weak. It tasted more like watered-down juice. The first course (meatballs) was cold. The second course (New England clam chowder) was hot and full of clams -- really enjoyed it. The entree (Dr. Pepper ribs) was goopy and super-sweet. The dessert (mixed berry cobbler) was very tasty though. My guest had the game hen, which was quite dry, but the carrot cake was very good.

I've been a fan for some time now and wanted to see what Smokin' Betty's had to offer outside of what I've already had, so Restaurant Week 2014 was a great opportunity for that. The meal was well mostly well-prepared, with the stuffing for the 1/2 Cornish hen being a bit too mushy and somewhat overcooked on the bottom. There was plenty of it, so I was able to eat enough without the need to send it back. It was the first time my best friend had been and she found the meal equally good.

I went to Smokin' Betty's with some Chinese friends who had not been to an American restaurant yet. Both the interior and exterior of the restaurant is very nice, and the second floor bar has a lively atmosphere, not to mention a good selection of craft beers on tap. Even so, the place was rather noisy so it was hard to have a conversation with my friends without feeling like I needed to shout. The food was okay. I got the fish tacos and it was nothing special; I felt like there should have been more flavor. My friends all seemed to enjoy their meals, though. All in all, I think I'll go back again to try a more recommended item - probably the burgers!

Located just a short walk from the Forrest Theater, entered early for the 4 PM after the matinee performance on Sunday, brunch crowd had cleared and we enjoyed a wonderful wedge salad and grilled vegetable quesadilla while my aunt had the grilled cheese. Both diners were pleased with choice. Vegetables were fresh with crunch cooked just right. We will recommend to others and we will return when we are next in Center City.

This is really a lovely place. There is an interesting menu, great happy hour beer selection and you get a lot of good food for a very reasonable price. One of the nicest things is the great choices for the vegetarians at your table. One little problem we had this particular night was outside noise. It was a very nice evening with good breezes and dry air, so all of the big doors were open. Unfortunately there was a jackhammer going constantly nearby that brought the noise level beyond where you could have a conversation. They closed one door but left the others open which kept the noise constant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend (I have been there twice myself) but watch for the outside noise.

My casual dinner with the family before a show was excellent. The food was wonderful! I didn't know you could put that much stuff on a burger :) Really wonderful selection of things to eat no matter what your taste is, with a good beer and drink menu to go with it. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, and was always there before we had to ask for something. So close to the Walnut street and Forrest theater you won't be late, but make sure you give yourself time to enjoy the food. I highly recommend Smokin' Betty's !

I have been to Smokin' Betty's a few times and each time the food is consistently good...and I like consistency when eating out! We were seated at a high top bar table, which I thought was very odd and the table was very sticky when we sat down...as if the table wasn't cleaned properly and the paper placemats were stuck to the table. I got the 8oz angus burger and it was very good...my friend got the chicken and also enjoyed. I opted for the the healthier side salad instead of fries and was quite surprised that the salad was extremely small and cost $1 more than the fries (really?). Overall the dining experience was good, the server was very nice and I will go back again as constistency is very important to me when dining out!
