Diner Reviews
  • "This is really a lovely place. There is an interesting menu, great happy hour beer selection and you get a lot of good food for a very reasonable price. One of the nicest things is the great choices for the vegetarians at your table. One little problem we had this particular night was outside noise. It was a very nice evening with good breezes and dry air, so all of the big doors were open. Unfortunately there was a jackhammer going constantly nearby that brought the noise level beyond where you could have a conversation. They closed one door but left the others open which kept the noise constant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend (I have been there twice myself) but watch for the outside noise."

  • "Menu isn't very extensive, but what they offered was quite tasty. We enjoyed drinks at their nice upstairs bar and then had tasty dinner. Tasteful and modern. Get the BBQ sampler, you won't be disappointed."

  • "Sort of stumbled upon Smokin' Betty's on an unintentional Friday night date with my Husband. Just a great experience all around. Super friendly staff (shout out to our server Susan!), creative cocktails, great mix of comfort foods all hot and full of flavor. Second floor view was exceptional. Will definitely be back. One minor minus for restrooms that were uninspiring and not the cleanest."

  • "My casual dinner with the family before a show was excellent. The food was wonderful! I didn't know you could put that much stuff on a burger :) Really wonderful selection of things to eat no matter what your taste is, with a good beer and drink menu to go with it. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, and was always there before we had to ask for something. So close to the Walnut street and Forrest theater you won't be late, but make sure you give yourself time to enjoy the food. I highly recommend Smokin' Betty's !"

  • "I have been to Smokin' Betty's a few times and each time the food is consistently good...and I like consistency when eating out! We were seated at a high top bar table, which I thought was very odd and the table was very sticky when we sat down...as if the table wasn't cleaned properly and the paper placemats were stuck to the table. I got the 8oz angus burger and it was very good...my friend got the chicken and also enjoyed. I opted for the the healthier side salad instead of fries and was quite surprised that the salad was extremely small and cost $1 more than the fries (really?). Overall the dining experience was good, the server was very nice and I will go back again as constistency is very important to me when dining out!"

  • "Went here for brunch before seeing a show at the Forest Theater. Had the open faced omelette which was really good. We ordered a side of mac & cheese which was on the bland side, but the side of sweet potatoes were very tasty. Reasonably priced and great service. Great experience and will be back."

  • "The food here is very good, the ribs are fall off the bone and spiced just right. Great salads, the blackboard specials are very innovative and love I the fish tacos. A restaurant with an open kitchen is always nice."

  • "It is a nice looking place worthy of a date night, and the price is cheap for what is looks like. Nothing special for food but it's good."

  • "Loved the upstairs - all open air - perfect spot on a nice night. Not overcrowded. Food was very good. I had the burger. The fried egg made it a big too sloppy for my taste but still good. The cobb salad was fantastic. Nice bar upstairs"

  • "Nice location, pleasant ambiance, friendly staff. Good selection of beers. Offers selection of up-scale versions of "standards" - burgers, ribs, chicken. Food was ok, but underwhelming and rather bland, albeit nicely presented. Bread pudding desert was over rich and over large. Generally ok, but I probably would not come back."

  • "I had a great experience at Smokin' Betty's. The staff were helpful and the food was AMAZING. There is not much I can say that was negative about there. I wanted to try everything on the menu but I will continue to go back until I taste everything."

  • "I've been to brunch here before, but was a little disappointed this time. The strawberry pancakes didn't have much flavor and the pineapple juice tasted funny."

  • "We made a reservation for 7, but had to change it to 8 and had no problem. The waiter was excellent! I had the pulled pork BBQ, which was adequate. My friend had the buffalo chucked sandwich and said it was the best she ever had. I also ordered a jacks cider and really liked it."

  • "We Love the food here. it's simple and yummy. The housemade Foccacia bread is my favorite! However, second floor seating, especially near the bar is very noisy and made it hard for me to hear the person across from me. They should probably consider adding some soft surfaces into the space to reduce the noise levels."

  • "On a hot day this place was barely cooled. We had a dinner reservation and while 3 of us waited for our late 2 to join us, they refused to seat us despite several requests. They left us standing in the hot foyer for 30 min offering no bar, no water, no concern, just "policy." 3 of us got fish tacos. I'm no foodie but these were the worst ever. Zero flavor. Tiny fish portion. After the wait, a letdown. The BBQ sliders were very good and waitress was friendly. Beers and dessert good. The hostess looked unwelcoming. Very loud concrete walled. As a result, I won't book a group here again. Far too many reliable choices over this one."

  • "Our waitress Sunday morning was amazing. Extremely attentive and so unbelievably nice. The ambiance - industrial meets rustic - is very chic and comfortable. The food is definitely comfort food - I swear they have a bunch of grandmas cooking in the kitchen. I only have one negative thing to say about this place and that's the lighting in the bathroom - it's very dark and could be brighter. Seriously, that's all that's wrong with this place. It's honestly a great find."

  • "We ate lunch at SB after a very long graduation ceremony at the Kimmel Center. After a heads up that we were running 30mins late, the staff welcomed us without snide comments and treated us very well. We chose SB for our party of 8 because it struck the right balance for our older traditional foodie parents and vegetarian young adults. Excellent beer selection as well. I would highly recommend."

  • "We took our family out for a Father's Day brunch. My husband wanted to try this place after it was featured on a local news channel. The service, atmosphere, and food were all outstanding. We had a reservation and they called to confirm and there was no wait at all. Would highly recommend. Great beer selection and awesome food menu! Go hungry though!!"

  • "I have been to Smokin' Betty's twice before and each time it was good. This time, not so much. We showed up to our reservation 7 minutes early (I checked my phone when we walked in), and were told our table wasn't ready. It wasn't busy so we were a bit surprised...but we grab a drink at the bar. I order a cocktail and my date gets a beer. We get our drinks and immediately the host tells us our table is now ready. I felt like I was scammed into buying a cocktail due to the dubious timing. We were seated on top of the host station, which wasn't fun to look at. The table top was sticky. My riblets tasted days old and the sauce was one note--sweet. The corn muffins and mac and cheese were great, as usual. The service was average."

  • "First major point: my veggie burger came served raw. While our server was very friendly, the overall service as abysmal. It took forever for a spill at our table to be cleaned up, took forever for our server to come over so I could tell her my burger was raw, and it was very clear that overall management of the establishment was seriously lacking. The menu and selections were certainly wide and seemed very delicious. I think a manager and chef expediter in the kitchen could very much help this restaurant. I often see problems like this in locations that are a bar and restaurant together. You cannot only focus on the bar experience for customers. Food and service are key for diners to come back."

  • "We had a group that included a picky adult eater, a child, a baby, 2 people coming from the theatre and two people coming from a beer crawl. It was the perfect place for our group - accomodated everyone. Service was friendly as well."

  • "Prior to the theater we ate at Smokin Bettys and the entire family was delighted with the food, service, and ambiance. Not a five-course meal type of place, Smokin Betty's offers sandwichs, burgers, and a few entree selections. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious, the burgers cooked to order, and the buffalo chicken just spicy enough. We all enjoyed our dinner and can't wait to return."

  • "Been here during restaurant week in winter. Saw on uwishunu it was recommended for Brunch. Two couples were looking for a downtown brunch(we're from Bensalem) so we booked it. French Toast and eggs Benedict with pork tenderloin instead of ham. Beer modes and a coffee cream drink for the ladies! "

  • "I've been there several times. always the service was mediocre but this time it was less then that. waiting so long for everything: from placing your order till getting the check and even after, it took them ages to take our money. it doesn't make sense... the table and menus were sticky and it just didn't feel clean at all. food is OK. not bad. you get what you pay for. but the service HAS to improve. it wasn't a full night at all so no reason for such amateur service!"

  • "Since my husband and I were at The doctor's all day, we needed a good meal, and thought Smokin' Betty's would provide the comfort food they promised. Boy werewe disappointed! It took 45 minutes for our food to appear and then we discovered it was not worth the wait! The rib let's were dried out and tasteless. My husband's combo plate was hardly better. My short rib tacos had a sour taste which came from an over ripe avocado, and the "crispy" onions atop the meat were greasy and soggy, not crispy at all. The best part of the meal were the mini corn muffins. "
