What a waste of time. Too small. Bad service. They made us wait outside for a table and when we got to sit. People are bumping into you. The waiters never check on you. The only food thing was the music which you can't hear over the crowd jammed into a small apartment. We left after only 30 mins.

If we had gone to SMOKE just for the food, it would have been an outstanding evening, but add exceptional music in an intimate setting with no bad seat in the house and tasty cocktails, and you have one terrific night. We celebrated a friend's birthday with another couple, and our experience exceeded expectations. Just be prepared to spend $100/person. We're a big family, so we can't frequent SMOKE often, but the next special occasion will be the next best excuse to spend another evening on Broadway at 105th.

We had a great time from the beginning of our arrival, when our choice of seats was accommodated after they tried to put us in "not so great" spot to watch the band. Also it was my wife's birthday and we were treated to a complimentary glass of champagne ...nice touch. The meal was a pre fix...pretty good deal, good choices except for the dessert which if you are allergic to chocolate is not good. There were other desirable choices which were the same price which we were not allowed to substitute for until we reminded them it was my wife's birthday...then it was "ok then, we can do it". The food was all very good and well presented. The music was excellent. We will go back and recommend Smoke as a great night out!

Loved this place! Recommended by a friend, and I was not disappointed. The ambiance, the vibe, and the food were all a perfect combination for me and my husband to celebrate his birthday. We got a treat that night with the sounds of The Sugar Hill Quartet, Patience Higgins, Johnny O'Neal, and the one and only George Coleman. All in one jam session!!!! What a night!!!!

Smoke is easily one of the top five jazz clubs in NYC. We recently went on a Tuesday night and Mike LeDonne and Groover played a killer set! Each player was outstanding, and as a group, there was the kind of listening to each other and playing off each other that happens when jazz masters play together. Dinner was excellent and our server was especially friendly and professional. Smoke takes jazz seriously and, for us, that makes it one very special place.

I visited Smoke to hear the ever popular Mike LeDonne's Groover Night on Tuesday. First, Smoke has an outstanding vibe and sound system. The owner's are truly into the music, and it shows in the staff and atmosphere. I asked my favorite bartender Tommy to select 3 courses off the Prix Fixe menu, and as always, he made some great choices! The shrimp and watermelon salad featured a light and tangy barbeque sauce which was nice with the sweetness of the watermelon. The main course was a Maryland Softshell Crab sandwich. Delicious! Dessert was a simple, yet satisfying fresh seasonal berries and cream. Smoke is a real gem in the world of jazz clubs. I only wish I lived in NYC or I'd be there all the time!

My two sons (15, 18yr) and myself were on a week trip to NYC and for my birthday, we made reservations for the 10pm concert. Food was tremendous (but way too much!) and the selection of Belgian-style locally brewed beers highly appreciated. My youngest son not being a jazz fan, has also appreciated the food, the setting, the 'ambiance'. Smoke is highly recommendable and upon a next trip, we'll surely come again.

Nice staff, attentive service, food is YUMMY, (BIG appetizers--enough to share) casual, music was fine! (it's a really SMALL restaurant, and we saw a 12 piece band crammed into a tiny stage area, so it was LOUD that night, but it is a place for jazz aficionados, so just enjoy...

Went to see The Baylor Project. Took the train from Philadelphia for the show. It's a straight ride with about a 3 block walk at the end. We sat at the bar but there really wasn't a bad seat. The venue is small but the wait staff seem to make it work. There are minimums for drink and food depending on the time you go and whether you were at a table or the bar, but that is met pretty easily. Having spent a number of years in NYC, I knew that it was going to be pricey and was prepared for it. The food was really good. We have fried shrimp and Lamp sliders. Met some friends there who had salads and pasta and said their food was also good. The music was phenomenal, the crowd lively, and service was fantastic.

We loved Smoke Jazz. The food was great, and The Baylor Project outstanding. Our only concern was the tight schedule required to get in three sets for the show. Our food took longer to prepare, definitely worth waiting for, but we felt rushed to finish it since we knew the set was almost over and it was time for a new group of guests to come in.

This is a small intimate space. Both my date and I had the prix fixe meal. For appetizer, I had the garden salad while my date had the lamb sliders. We both had the lemon chicken dish as the entree. We both loved the food. On stage was Captain Black's Big Band. They were amazing to say the least. We were a little upset about the service though. Our waiter rarely came over to us and instead focused on tables around us. While we were first to arrive and first to order our food, we were the very last to receive our food. At the end of the set, we were still eating because of the late arrival of our food. However, we were being rushed to finish and leave. This needs to be looked at by the manager.

Smoke is one of NYC's best jazz clubs, hosting well known players and up and comers. They maintain an excellent website and reservation list. The food is excellent. On a recent visit, the southern fried chicken, tomato and mozzarella app and mixed berry desert was excellent, and while the other tables around me seemed happy with their food, too, remember you're at Smoke for the music. It's a small room with wonderful acoustics. You won't be disappointed. BTW, don't go if you need to entertain guests or a date with endless talk about yourself, how much you think you know about jazz or how successful you are in your career. It's not respectful to the musicians and those of us around you don't care.

Brought international clients for Monday night open mike and it was wonderful. One of my favorite NYC spots to bring people for both great culture and food - especially if I want to impress or romance a special lady. The only way the ambience could be better is if there weren't loud tourists nearby, but the gracious staff did a decent job of keeping them relatively quiet. This really is a terrific gem I am reluctant to tell too many about!

I gave Smoke a 4--but not for the dining experience, which was only fair. I had lemon chicken, and it was OK. Husband had jambalaya--not good. But we didn't go for the food. Music was wonderful. We saw the "Baylor Project." Wow, can that girl sing. And the piano player, who was not part of their regular group--in fact had met them only that day--was amazing. Next time I'm in NYC, I will definitely go back. But I think I will eat elsewhere and sit at the bar--the mojitos were really good!
