This gives Smoke an advantage over many local jazz clubs, which pay less attention to the quality of the food they serve. Of course, the venue is also noted for its well-stocked bar, as well as friendly and masterful bartenders. We were visiting NYC and were recommended Smoke by Jazz player back in the UK. All they said was true: food is good, service is attentive and friendly, accoustics are amazing!! All the musicians were unbelieveable and it would have taken a good hunting down to find such a great lineup in London. Most particularly worth mentioning is the Brianna Thomas Quartet. Only downside was a table of 4 next to us decided that a Jazz Club was the best place to introduce new friends and chat. I had to lean over and ask to stop, they didn't like that. Nevermind the manageress ( owner?) was sweet and our waitress deserved all her tips. Thank you for my wife's birthday wishes. Unfortunately the night we went there was 16 piece jazz band which felt too big and noisy for such a small space. The food lets the place down. It needs to be looked at. Massive plates and baskets of rather tasteless chicken. It's a shame because the venue is great.

Reservations are needed, and they add the music charge to your check (usually $30-40 per person). The food is solid if unspectacular, the desserts are really the shining stars of the menu. My truffled chicken was a little bland, but everything else was good. The food is wholesome, "right sized". The B'Bque tangy like I like and I've never had a guest not like the food or drink.
But it is the joy of those playing that captivates you. Their skill, their love of their craft, the respect they pay each other as they rip, the way they blend.
