Diner Reviews
  • "Food is good, jazz is some of the best I've heard in the US. It's like going to an intimate professional jazz concert. Highly recommend for any music fans."

  • "Went to see The Baylor Project. Took the train from Philadelphia for the show. It's a straight ride with about a 3 block walk at the end. We sat at the bar but there really wasn't a bad seat. The venue is small but the wait staff seem to make it work. There are minimums for drink and food depending on the time you go and whether you were at a table or the bar, but that is met pretty easily. Having spent a number of years in NYC, I knew that it was going to be pricey and was prepared for it. The food was really good. We have fried shrimp and Lamp sliders. Met some friends there who had salads and pasta and said their food was also good. The music was phenomenal, the crowd lively, and service was fantastic."

  • "We enjoy very much the place and the music. We are grom Mexico but we feelt at home, so relax. The level of the noise in general, and the music particulary is perfect. Congratulations."

  • "I stayed in midtown so the trip to this location was fairly long. This is a small restaurant so seating is very close, make a reservation so you have a seat. The food was ok, the music was good. I'd come here again."

  • "The owner and staff was friendly. The service was excellent. Me and my date enjoyed the smooth jazz. The food was delicious."

  • "This is the second time we dined at SMOKE, and it lived up to our expectation of terrific music, and great food. Loved the Captain Black Big Band and the delicious lemon chicken and popcorn shrimp. This is a "must go to" night spot for fine dining and amazing music!!"

  • "Smoke is one of NYC's best jazz clubs, hosting well known players and up and comers. They maintain an excellent website and reservation list. The food is excellent. On a recent visit, the southern fried chicken, tomato and mozzarella app and mixed berry desert was excellent, and while the other tables around me seemed happy with their food, too, remember you're at Smoke for the music. It's a small room with wonderful acoustics. You won't be disappointed. BTW, don't go if you need to entertain guests or a date with endless talk about yourself, how much you think you know about jazz or how successful you are in your career. It's not respectful to the musicians and those of us around you don't care."

  • "I really liked our evening here. The food was ok but not the centre point. Y have to come here for the live music and general atmosphere. Definitely recommend"

  • "Brought international clients for Monday night open mike and it was wonderful. One of my favorite NYC spots to bring people for both great culture and food - especially if I want to impress or romance a special lady. The only way the ambience could be better is if there weren't loud tourists nearby, but the gracious staff did a decent job of keeping them relatively quiet. This really is a terrific gem I am reluctant to tell too many about!"

  • "My BFF and I went to Smoke on our recent trip. We were going for at the music and we weren't disappointed. Fabulous!! Food was okay, nothing outstanding, but the prix fixe menu was good value."
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "The chef used to be amazing for a music venue. Food was only fair. We went to hear Blues, and the band played mostly jazz, which was okay, but we expected to hear Blues and were disappointed to not hear what we expected."

  • "I had a great veggie omelette and mimosa and different types of breads and muffins at this jazz brunch. Love the Sunday jazz brunch! Came in with my opentable gift card and left with some great tunes in my head!!"

  • "Great music. Loved it. Wish I could have bought a cd. Wanted to stay for second show. Paid $38 cover. I feel there shouldn't have been a additional $40 to stay for second show. 1 st show wasn't that long. Spent almost $200. Think that should of allowed us to stay. Overall great food and music. Would definitely go there again."

  • "Cozy club located in upper westside neighborhood. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Sat only a few feet away from stage and experienced outstanding performance by jazz quintet."
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "I gave Smoke a 4--but not for the dining experience, which was only fair. I had lemon chicken, and it was OK. Husband had jambalaya--not good. But we didn't go for the food. Music was wonderful. We saw the "Baylor Project." Wow, can that girl sing. And the piano player, who was not part of their regular group--in fact had met them only that day--was amazing. Next time I'm in NYC, I will definitely go back. But I think I will eat elsewhere and sit at the bar--the mojitos were really good!"

  • "The music was fantastic but you can't expect to go there and talk with your friends, the place is really small and very loud. The food was okay. The shrimp and watermelon were a good choice. The fried chicken was plentiful and very moist. The jambalaya was very bland, not worth the money. The service on the other hand was excellent. Waitstaff were friendly, attentive and the place was full."

  • "Its a Jazz club. Only seats about 50 including the bar so a res is necessary. Food and drink was great as was the service. When the show starts, shut up and listen, they get first rate acts."
    Dined on 7/30/2014
  • "Smoke is a gem of a space to hear great live Jazz specifically for those people who want to listen while dining. The food looks great but tastes average. The Chef just needs to tweak his spice rack. We will be back as everything else including the service is excellent."
    Dined on 7/30/2014
  • "Don't assume that just because you have a reservation they have space or the set hasn't started yet. Made a reservation on OpenTable and got there to find there was no table for me and the set was beginning. The hostess was nice enough to offer us free drinks, but there weren't even seats at the bar, we were just shoved on an aisle. Ultimately we left and ate at Toast."

  • "I have visited this establishment on two other occasions and was very pleased. But on this particular visit everything was a mess. The food was cold and unseasoned. The waitress was very unattentive. We arrived 5 minutes early then the reservation time and was turned away. The vocalisit was unprofessional. She was cursing on stage and began talking about how drunk she was and no one knew the songs in the band. The band would stop playing in the middle of the song and start all over again. By the time they got it together people had started to leave out of frustration. While I like the establishment after this experience I will think again about returning."

  • "This place literally seats about 40 people. If that much. But it's great because no matter where you're seated, you get a great view of the stage. We had the seafood pasta that i did not enjoy, the seafood was undercooked and the pasta was very bland. for appetizers we got lamb sliders they where absolutely delicious. My only con was the tables were SO close together i kept getting elbowed which i did not enjoy but the ambiance was great."

  • "We were visiting New York. Our son found this place online and we asked if we could tag along. Smoke & Jazz is small, crowded and noisy with amazing food and a staff that made us feel like friends - just what a jazz club should be. The Savory Bread Pudding with Sauteed Spinach was beautiful and delicious. Everyone in our party felt the same about what they ordered. The Baylor Project was playing that evening and delivered the most unique and beautiful version of Gershwin's Summertime. Very fine muscians all of them, but friendly and fun as well. Apparantly the word is out, as they were completely sold out on a Thursday evening. We wish them the very best and will definitely visit again."

  • "We had a great musical and gastronomic time at Smoke Jazz Club: the jazz band is energetic, the ambience is convivial and friendly, and it's not too crowdy. I would definetly recommend it!"
