Diner Reviews
  • "Fantastic musicians every time we've been! Not great vegetarian options, which prohibits me from coming more. Lovely, accidating staff and good wines!"

  • "We visited whilst on holiday in NYC! I had seen the club recommended on Trip Advisor, and am so pleased we booked a table. Although the food was expensive (fixed price menu $38) which was delicious, the experience was brilliant and live jazz was wonderful. Definitely worth the money for a special occasion."

  • "Smoke was my dinner reservation for the second night of my trip to New York. We were seated early so that we could get out of the rain, the service was very good. The music was phenomenal, we couldn't hear each other but that didn't matter. The food was amazing, worth every dollar."

  • "Our family went to this restaurant for Sunday brunch. We wanted a relaxed lunch listening to some live jazz. The food was excellent and the jazz was just perfect. The intimate set up meant that we could listen and enjoy the jazz in what seemed like a private setting. All in all it was highly recommended."

  • "Very small and cozy place. Great atmosphere. I had a wonderful time there. The food was good and the music was super. The only disappointment for the night was the duration of the show. As I was starting to enjoy the music i had to make way for the next set. However, I'd recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a night out of the ordinary."

  • "The experience was great. I loved the music and the ambiance. The service was also excellent. However, the food was considerably under my expectations (good salad but the steak was overcooked and full with nerves)"

  • "I apprecated the the music and the generel atmosphere at the restaurant. Coming from Denmark Price for one hour excellent jazz, good wine, a fine pizza and at good seat at the bar was very low. A really nice experience. Thanks"

  • "Wonderfully attentive service. Look forward to returning."

  • "Captain Black's Big Band was playing, and they were great. We enjoyed the Dogfish Pale Ale. Staff were lively and helpful. Appetizers trump the main courses here: a nice hot aioli for the calamari, and a delicious warm winter vegetable salad. The mains, a roast cauliflower and beef ribs, were disappointing. Cauli was bland. Ribs were mushy and didn't have much flavor either."

  • "Not my first visit, but my first time for the live jazz brunch. Food was good, music was excellent. It was my first time for brunch, but it won't be my last."

  • "Great jazz and atmosphere including food and drink. Staff are customer focused and great vibe."

  • ""great food for a Jazz bar" always sounds like a back-handed compliment but the food is actually excellent for any neighborhood restaurant. The short rib hash was not as great as it sounded. Lamb sliders are super. The salmon was excellent. The 3-course fixed price menu for $38 cannot be beat. Plus no cover charge during the week for Jazz. How can you not love this place? I complement the wait staff for manuevering quietly through the tight quarters during the performance."

  • "We expected the music to be good and were not disappointed . The food was a pleasant surprise and was also excellent. This was a treat for us out of towne but we sat next to two locals which is always a good sign. They told us they come here regularly and we could understand why. The music was terrific, the atmosphere wonderful. We got to talk to the musicians and sat close to the stage which is only raised by one step from the seating area. It is small and intimate with great atmosphere. There's a coat rack near the door so no need to sit on your coat and there was a bucket for umbrellas. Sadly one of ours disappeared but there was a very similar one there so we think it was an honest mistake. Management encouraged us to take that one."

  • "The food was good but the space with the closed tables was unacceptable and inappropiated for a comfortable dinner. We chose this restaurant for the jazz concert but it was too short and the acoustic was not the best. Thus the formula is too commercial in our opinion."

  • "The music was good as well as the service. The only thing wrong was the seating was too tight and food was a little bland."
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "The food & drinks were excellent & great value, service was wonderful. But best of all was the talent of the jazz band playing. Incredible! Wish I lived in New York & could enjoy this place weekly."

  • "Will not return! Music was amazing but everything else was lacking. Food was as indicated on yelp-- less than fair. We arrived early, waited for a table, in spite of an 8:30 reservation, seated at 8:45pm and advised at 10pm by management that someone was awaiting our table. Bottom line, stop by for music but be sure to eat at a consumer friendly establishment first."

  • "I went to hear the David Hazeltine Quartet. Every musician was world class in his own right, and the outstanding sound system and ambience made it an amazing experience. The food is very impressive and the wines pair very well. Service was excellent and I highly recommend Smoke to anyone wanting a great dining experience with some exceptional jazz."

  • "We found Smoke Jazz and Supper Club by asking "Siri" for jazz clubs near us, while in NYC. We read the reviews on Yelp. The club received excellent reviews for the entertainment/musicians, but mostly moderate reviews for the food and service. I was with my daughter and we both agreed that the moderate reviews must be a mistake. The food was delicous and the service superb. The waitresses were friendly, fast, and attentive. Musicians were amazing! Vivian Sessoms was singing and I literally had chills when I heard her voice. Simply beautiful. We are sooooooo happy that we stumbled upon Smoke!! We would have returned the next night if we did not already have plans. Next trip to the city....we WILL go back."

  • "Food is not as good as the jazz, buy better than expected. Appetizer s better than entrees. Whole cauliflowe while nicely presented, was under seasoned. Just blah. Bread pudding was delicious. Grilled salmon was fishy and unremarkable,"

  • "Have been to Smoke many times now and love it! If you love jazz--it's small and cozy--wonderful talent to listen to, and for a jazz club, the food's really good! Look forward to my next visit!"

  • "Small intimate jazz club unlike the others in the city. Allows you to talk with your companion and enjoy the food. No bad seat in the house to listen to the music. Will be back again at the earliest opportunity."

  • "The Captain Black Big Band are a class act providing splendid jazz entertainment. Quality food from an adventurous menu combined with discreet but good service made for an evening of concentrated pleasure."

  • "Smoke gets great jazz bands and the band goes out of the way to wish some people birthday and anniversary. Food is typical southern but very good. The only thing is the poor service. Our server forgot our order, came back to ask what we ordered after 30 mins. We are having the restaurant week menu and Our food came at 7:30. By the time we are having entree, everyone is having dessert. We couldn't finished our food because the servers made it very clear and that we need to be out by the next seating. My friend was taking the 2nd bite of her dessert and a server reached over to take her plate. That was rude. The music is so great that it kinda compensate the poor service. But they can definitely do better. If you go, check on your food."

  • "Quick service, attentive althoug we got wrong info about the day's special and it's price. There was no three couse special. Felt rushes to vacate the table after the musicians finished with their set. The music was TOPS! The restaurant's policy of asking patrons to respect the artist by keeping conversation to a wisper made it posible to enjoy their talents."

  • "Went to see Gregory Generet and had a great evening! The music was top quality and the food was equally impressive. The Brussels Sprouts and Salmon filet were delicious!"

  • "The lemon chicken was not seasoned and over-cooked in a sauce without any hint of lemon. Still, an important outpost for America's great gift to world culture."

  • "A great place to hear new and old groups, but do not miss the food. Especially their salad. Love the friendly environment."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "This is a nice place. Nice ambience the food was good. Only thing is its a bit pricey for upper west side. You can only see one set and the cover price is $38. If it wasn't for restaurant week this would have gone up to $400 for just two people. People should have the option to stay. If your going to pay that much"

  • "Great place for a small or intimate sitting. Place overall is kind of small so you definitely want to make a reservation but the music was great and the food delicious. I don't drink wine and thought the bar was limited but overall a fantastic place."
