Period.Smitty's is one of three Smith Bros. restaurants in Pasadena, but this has been and remains my favorite. I live in Pasadena, so it's convenient, but even if I lived in Santa Monica, I'd still make the drive. Over the years, I've relied on Smitty's for business lunches, casual lunches, and dinners of every stripe, but especially romantic ones. The food? I recommend people just go to the web site, check out the menu, imagine virtually everything on perfectly prepared and impeccably served, and that should settle things. Smitty's is not exotic; they specialize in American food, "comfort" food they often say, though it's a luxurious comfort. They have never let me down. We were first greeted by Thomas the handsome host and seated at a very cozy table. Ericka was our waitress and she was knowledgeable about the menu, also asked if we had dinned at the restaurant before, we had not, so she gave us a brief bio of the establishment and it's sister restaurants. Ericka was warm and charming and stayed on top of things without being intrusive. The food was outstanding! We started with the cornbread....a must! I had the prime rib and my friend had the liver and onions...she loved her dish as much as I loved mine. Desert is something you need to make room for...Key Lime pie was yummy, and we both left Smitty's very happy customers who plan to return soon.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't wait to go back again.There was a bit of a delay before our server got to us initially (though we weren't in any hurry), but after that everything was great. We had the pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese and chicken picatta. Everything was excellent. Quality is appreciated. The chocolate cake is decadent and superb. Also don't miss the house bread, as it's one of my favorites and served with plenty of butter. The staff was wonderful and the chicken piccata was outstanding. Along with a smooth zin followed by the bread pudding dessert, the luncheon was lovely indeed. The cornbread in a skillet is a great starter, warm out of the oven.
All the entrees deliver each time I have been, a few of my favorites include the Beef Stroganoff, creamy and rich with tender chunks of beef, the Macaroni and Cheese with chunks of Ham, and the Pork chop is perfectly cooked double chop, extremely moist.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day mealOur Family had a great night. The service was excellent. The Manager, Tom recommended the Bean Dip Appetizer which was very good. My only complaint was the boneless short ribs which were bland, chewy and somewhat tasteless. The Halibut and Porterhouse Steak and HamBurger that the rest of the party had were very good. It was my husband's first choice to celebrate his birthday. I made the reservation thru Open Table and noted the birthday in the comments section. They had a personalized birthday card and flowers for him at the table when we came in! A very lovely touch. The food, as always, was wonderful as was the service. We love this place. Based on the waiter's recommendations, 3 of us had the fresh fish specials. They were wonderful. My sister always has the ribs. Food is solid... well prepared and with a variety of tastes and presentations. The prime rib is hearty. The BBQ ribs very tasty. Salads are fresh and crisp. Cocktails are decent, although a little pricey for calls. That would be the first disappointment we've had here.
