Diner Reviews
  • "I've had lunch at Smitty's in the past and recently took my family there for dinner. The service was very good and I like the location. But the food was very average. The meatloaf was o.k. but my wife's steak was not good at all. "

  • "This is the second time I have experienced slow service in this restaurant. Had to wait an hour for our main entree to arrive. Also the noise level is too high for my liking."

  • "I have eaten at Smitty's both for lunch and dinner. Service, food and ambience are all dependably good. Menu is varied and doesn't stray too ecclectic making it a good place for both foodies and non-foodies. On the pricey side for an everyday lunch, but perfect for a business offering at lunch or dinner."

  • "We had friends visiting from out of town and Smittys was the perfect place to dine and catch up. We were able to eat on the back patio and though it was cool, they turned on the heaters and it was fine. Our server was informative, helpful and attentive, but not pushy. Our food was perfectly prepared( Chickne pot pie, beef stroganoff, and veal chop). Smittys is a great place!"

  • "Everything we ate was good as usual. My husband had the liver and onions, and I had the French Dip sandwich, Which had a lot of meat and was delious. We had the steamed clams for an appetizer. We had to ask for bread. As a whole the service wasn't quite up to par for Smitty's. Our waitress wasnt' that attentive, but the others that brought the food were good. We will be back."

  • "While traveling with family we all had different food taste from comfort food to hearty steak. Smitty's had it all. the MAC N CHEESE!!! was to die for!!! Definitely going back and having another great meal, great service, and relaxing evening."

  • "Of the six people in our party, one got a white fish that didn't pass the smell test. Management removed the cost of the dish from the menu. Another person in our party ordered the rib-eye steak medium-rare; it arrived at the table dripping blood and had to be sent back for more cooking. The other items: chicken pot pie, chicken piccata and ground round steak were all as expected."

  • "Smitty's food is good and I love the space but the noise level really makes it difficult to visit, especially with another couple."

  • "Excellent food and service. It does get a little noisy when full."

  • "We appreciated the services and how quick they accommodated us from a 3 person party to last minute change of 6 person. Thank you for the wonderful services."

  • "I don't go often, but I've never experienced anything but excellence since 2009. Love the old school vibe of the Rat Pack era."

  • "Have been a long time fan and customer but was really taken aback this time by how loud the reatusrant was. We were there on a Friday night, so I expected the crowd, but I never recall the main dining room being as loud as it was. It really made it difficult to have a conversation with our companions or with the waitress. We all commented on it (including the waitress). And, despite needing to practially shout our order to the waitress, she apparently didn't hear two of the items we'd requested. Not a huge inconveneince and not her fault, but in the end, everybody had had enough and we opted to skip dessert to get out of the din."

  • "Not only was the food absolutely delicious (I had the short rib) but service was amazing. Judy was a fantastic server and I definitely can't wait to go again."

  • "Smitty's is located on the site of a revered Pasadena landmark restaurant, Monahan's Irish Pub. I am pleased to say it honors the sprit of that eatery. While it looks quite different, they continue to serve old fashioned Irish soul food while maintaining a menu of upscale burgers, sandwiches and fish dishes that please most. Oh, and the bar is of a size that would make Monahan proud."

  • "We had booked a reservation over 6 weeks in advance but were disappointed to find that our table was right next to the front door and the hostess stand where everyone crowds in. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed the food as there was something on the menu for everyone and everything was prepared perfectly. We discovered that there are two patio areas that were much quieter and we'll be sure to request one on our next visit. Even though we live in the Antelope Valley, we'll make the drive again!"

  • "We had never been to Smitty's before. It is a gem. It has every kind of food you might want. The atmosphere is great. I had the mussels and clams as an appetizer, and it was wonderful. My husband had liver and onions which he loved. We will definity go back again and bring friends.."

  • "Many agree with me that the dining room at Smitty's has a very New York feeling. If you like that type of ambience combined with great food and service, you will like Smitty's. First timers - valet parking is in the rear, not the front."

  • "Big fan of their sister restaurant Arroyo Chop House. But if I can't get a reservation there, I go to Smitty's. Less expensive, more variety, but still excellent with Steaks almost up to par with the Chop House. Chop House doesn't have prime rib, but Smitty'd does. Excellent!"

  • "I've eaten at Smitty's dozens of times. Food and quality is always very good. Very welcoming atmosphere. Relaxed but classy. Great for a weekday lunch or for dinner or a special occasion. Favorites are meatloaf, ribeye, pulled pork sandwich, pork chop, mac and cheese, corn bread, chocolate cake and bread pudding. This time we had the ribeye, chicken piccata and chocolate cake. All great. We also look forward to the house bread and potato chips. Servers are friendly without being overly so, as well as attentive to just the right degree. Good value for what you get. This was on a Monday evening, so the noise level was low. At lunch and weekend dinner it is on the louder side, but not annoyingly so."

  • "The dinner was awesome. We tried the calamari and shrimp, excellent. Next we had the Asian pear salad, excellent! I ordered the Smitty's meatloaf and mac and chesse with ham - to died for. My wife ordered the halibut meal. Overall the food was excellent. Our waiter was excellent in service. Enjoy!"

  • "Smity's has become one of my favorite restaurants because of the great service and food fit for foodies! I have been to Smitty's so much in the last year even the parking attendent knows me. Great for lunch also!"

  • "My husband loves Smitty's because they deliver a great steak every time. The sides are not great (very buttery mashed potatoes and no vegetable). I had a salmon over a bit of spinach and rice - good food but overpriced at $32. The wine pour was also light but cocktails are strong."

  • "This was the first time we visited Smitty's for dinner. I had enjoyed lunch there on one occasion. Overall, it was very good. I would suggest requesting a booth, which is much more intimate than the table set-up. My fish was excellent as was my wife's but next time I'm trying their famous Chicken Pot Pie."

  • "I've dined at Smitty's many times over the years and return often because I like nearly everything about it. Our most recent visit was disappointing; if this had been our first visit, it probably would be our last. The main problem was the service. An order for a bottle of wine was forgotten. After being reminded, the (female) server brought the wine and showed the bottle not to the woman who had ordered it, but to her husband. She reminded the server who had ordered it, so she got to see it--and noticed that it was the wrong wine. After fetching the right bottle and offering a taste, the server then poured the full portion into the wrong glass--one that still had some earlier, different wine in it--and took away the tasting glass. Etc."

  • "Smitty's has been remarkably consistent. Not quite "too" pricy but worth every bit of about $60 bucks a person - give or take a few. Food is great and service is EXCELLENT. Simply, what I expect - each time. And delivered each time. My favorite? Prime rib! And the other half loves the salmon. And more rare - a PERFECT vodka gimlet."

  • "We decided to try this restaurant for the first time during DineLA. It's a lovely restaurant and the service was attentive and friendly. For the first course, I had the salad and my boyfriend had the minestrone soup, which we both thought was delicious. The bread was good, too. For the main course, we both had the filet mignon, which was a little tough and so-so on flavor. The steak with a big mound of mashed potatoes, which were good, but I kind of wish there was some sort of vegetable or something to add flavor to it since the steak and potatoes were bland (expected with potatoes, but not so much with steak). The deserts were good - I really liked the bread pudding and my boyfriend's cheesecake was good, but a bit bland too."
