Food was very very good and our server was great. Greg was professional, very knowledgeable, and very friendly. He mentioned that he had been in this industry for a very long time, and it was evident. He knew when to approach the table, was there to provide great service but not "over the top". There were five of us men together for a reunion from University days. It was decided that a steak dinner was in order. Conveniently, Smith and Wollensky's was recommended to us by tourist who frequented Las Vegas and the restaurant was conveniently located close to our hotel. Smith & Wollensky's courteously received a last minute reservation (within two hours) and were warm and welcoming upon our arrival. Enter Jason, our server. Jason made our night! The food (steaks and accompaniments) were delicious, the wine was great, but the service was excellent. Jason knew the menu like the back of his hand and his jovial attitude made the experience a memorable one. During the week, many convention groups are served here but it is very nice and quiet, while still busy, on the weekends. The pricing is comparable to higher end establishments and I have never had a poor meal. This restaurant is right on the Vegas strip and is convenient to most all of the hotels. Both the service and the wine list was outstanding. The restaurant in Las Vegas was spot on fantastic. The wait was reasonable and was offset by a bar experience that was fun and productive. When seated, we pleased to discover our seating was in a small but comfortable dining area where fifty percent of the wall space was clear glass over looking the kitchen operation. The glass in this dining area is well suited to provide a relatively quiet atmosphere while making for a most interesting view of the operation.
The rest of the seating area is very clean and in a style keeping with the first class enviroment.
The service was impecable and unsurpassed. The service is always friendly and efficient without being intrusive. We went early--at 7pm--so it was much more quiet than usual...and I sort of like the later, louder, party atmosphere that happens at 9-10pm. We split a wedge and it was GREAT--big chunks of blue cheese, cold crispy iceberg, wonderful chunks of bacon...even if the tomato could have been more ripe. My rare filet Oscar was wonderful--buttery soft beef, cool in the center, smothered in perfect bernaise, tasty lump crab, and chopped asparagus. The calamari appetizer had a good flavor, but was sort of greasy and floppy. The chocolate crème brûlée was a wonderful end to a great meal. The waiter did not know that the special- corned beef could be served in the dining room. Our table ordered two orders of carpaccio. One was fine, the other was frozen and had leeched way too much salt from the salt block. Not sure how that happened. We were not charged for it. A serving of salmon was overlooked but corrected upon request. All in all a good meal, but the 3 little glitches were uncharacteristic for this favorite of ours. The restaurant is a stand-alone in Vegas and was not easy to find (tucked next to a strip mall and Walgreens). But once inside we were treated to delicious drinks, terrific service and unbeatable steaks. The 24-oz bone-in ribeye was a monster, while the 14-oz filet was cooked to perfection.
Of the sides, the best was the truffle mac-n-cheese, followed close behind by the onion rings and mushrooms.
