Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent food quality and great presentations but the service (at least our server) was terrible. My wife and I went there for a late lunch after some serious shopping and we ordered our food and two half bottles of wine. We kept reminding our server that we would like to have our wine before we finish our meal. Needless to say that the two bottles finally showed up after we finished. Very disappointing."

  • "Wonderful food and service!! The waiter was very warm and kind; the food was the perfect temperature and seasoning; we had the free range chicken and filet mignon 10oz. The iceberg salad and fries were also very delicious! My son LOVES this restaurant! Cannot miss out on enjoying the chocolate cake. "

  • "The food is always consistent at Smith and Wollensky--and it is fabulous. The wine list is extensive but a bit pricey. The tables in the upstairs dining room are nicely spaced--no elbow bumping here. It is quiet so private conversations can be had without shouting or sharing with the next table."

  • "The Marinated Cajun Rib Eye was moist and tender; however, I am not sure where the Cajun flavor was. You must take home a bottle of the Wollensky steak sauce. The stuffed jumbo shrimp with lump crab meat and garlic butter should be renamed. The shrimp was huge in size but bland in flavor. I missed the stuffing and it tasted like cocktail shrimp sprinkled lightly with crab meat. The Creamed Spinach and Grilled Asparagus portion size are indeed for a healthy appetite and scrumptious. The bacon lardons in the salad reminded me of my days living in a rural Texas area having a slab of bacon from the smokehouse cooked to perfection. I can still savor the tasty slice of cheesecake."

  • "Our last visit was for a birthday celebration with a large party, but we visit often as a family (with a young child), extended family or a couple of friends for cocktails. The staff is so accommodating and professional, we are always pleased with the service and experience. The menu is always the same, but every food offering is quality. The cocktail list is extensive, as are the wine choices (although the list is packed with common, name brands). It's a bit of a splurge relative to so many other great restaurants in Houston, but I stand beside its five stars since it always delivers what is expected. It's definitely a place where memories are made."

  • "Great place for a business lunch. Good food & service and quiet enough to visit -- with wait staff who can tell when you need help and when you need to be left alone. Plus, both substantial as well as light lunch options."

  • "My Fiance and I really enjoy eating here. We have a special booth that we sit at every time. We have celebrated our 2 years anniversary there. The service and food here is excellent! I really love their bone in rib-eye and Wollensky Salad. The creamed spinach is the best I have ever had and of course don't let me forget the Rosemary/Sea Salt Buttered Rolls..... to die for."

  • "I dined here for the first time on a Saturday night. The service was great and so was the atmosphere. I had the fritto misto appetizer, filet oscar which was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and tasted delicious!"

  • "We ate in the main dining room upstairs, which is a large brightly lit space, however , despite the tablecloths, the ambiance is more of a cafeteria than why one would think of as a traditional steakhouse. Drink service was slow, appetizer brought to the table before the drinks. For the price, I would go somewhere with more atmosphere and more elegant service. However, I can attest that the bar was lively, and in the past they have offered some great happy hour specials."

  • "My wife and I attended this location to celebrate her graduating college and getting her first job post-graduation. The prices at this type of location is on the high side for us and some place that we would treat as a special occasion. My wife had the crab cake for her entrée and it was great. I had the 24oz. bone-in rib eye and it was par at best (not worth $50) but decent. The biggest upset came with the sides. Creamed spinach had no flavor and you could tell by its appearance that it wouldn't be all that good and the hashed brown potatoes were just a big pile of potatoes crisped on top in the oven, no seasoning or flavor. I doubt I will be a repeat visitor. Vic & Anthony's from here on out. Side note - the staff was excellent."

  • "My husband and I enjoy this place for special occasions and sometimes a business dinner. We were celebrating my husband's birthday this day. Unfortunately, we were seated next to a family with two young children, and the parents did very little to minimize their frequent and loud outbursts which led us to have a much less enjoyable time. They watched cartoons on an iPad at the table! I fault the person who seated us, or them. We should have been in a different locations. We asked to move an outdoor table to finish our wine and have dessert. We were told we would be compensated for our displeasure, but only our dessert was paid for. And usually restaurants will do that anyway for a birthday. Left unimpressed."

  • "For those of you not familiar with S & W's Wine Week, you are missing out! My clients love the the food and the opportunity to taste and experience wines they ordinarliy would not purchase."

  • "Have been a regular for S&W's Wine Week. Nuri has served us before and is extremely personable, knowledgeable about the wines being served, and an asset to the restaurant. We enjoyed a long leisurely lunch, and they had no problem with is staying nearly 4 hours. Love the Wine Week. Wish is was 4 times a year instead of just twice!"

  • "Went for a special promotion but when we arrived, there was nothing fun (signs, hosts) promoting the special. The waiter brought us regular menus and I had to ask for the pre-set menu even though I noted on the comments "celebrating Steak and BJ Day" when I made the reservation on-line. Our waiter was courteous but not very friendly or attentive, rarely smiled until we asked another staff for steak sauce. After our meal, we walked into the bar and lots of people were having fun. Unfortunately after working all day, I was tired and couldn't stay to enjoy the live music. It was a little overpriced when I think of the snooty waiter but worth every penny to see the smile on my husband's face when he realized what we were celebrating."

  • "Our first time to smith and wollemsky. Food was great I had to have the salmon because I was on lent. But we plan on going back. Great view on the second floor patio seating. We will b going back when weather is better for the open windows on the patio."

  • "We had 2 tables of 10 people each for Wine Week. Everything (food, wine) was good except there were several issues with the service. We realize that it may be challenging to accommodate a group of our size, but staffing issues should have been worked out beforehand considering our reservation was confirmed weeks in advance."

  • "Waiter was personable and friendly. Food was excellent as always. Tuna burger was not available but a slice seared tuna sandwich was offered. Excellent. Crab cake was great but a bit expensive for one. Split Pea soup was great. tuna"

  • "We always have a top notch experience, largely due to our waiter, Hamid, who is pure perfection. The food is always outstanding, and I wish I could go to Smith and Wollensky more often (its far from my home)."

  • "Smith & Wollensky's has one of the best hamburgers you'll find in Houston (or the other cities they have restaurants). The wedge salad is pretty awesome with the large chunks of bacon and bleu cheese. The bartenders at Smith & Wollensky's are some of the best and funniest in the business..."

  • "We were celebrating my boyfriends birthday, I had made reservations a week prior, then called the day before to confirm, and they said everything was good to go. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and since we were early we stood by the bar. The ambiance was fantastic and the drinks were well made. once shown to our table, Jerry waited on us instantly, and was funny and courteous and knowledgeable about everything. Smith and Wollensky, thank you so much for allowing us to celebrate with you nd we look forward to making you a tradition from now on!!!"

  • "I am far from a successful person finacially. However, I do enjoy a upper scale resturant twice a year. We have eaten at other steak resturants in the local area before with all expectations met. Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse was, without a doubt an entresting event. Knowing that it is hard for a lower middle class individual to compare and contrast Steak resturants I will attempt to do so regardless. Last summer we dinned at a Steakhouse that was not to far from Smith & Wollensky's and we were twice a satisfied at half of the expence. No, we will not return although, we will not slander Smith & wollensky's Steakhouse to anyone. Thank you, Thomas~"

  • "My date had the lamb chops kind of salty. I had the prime rib bone in excellent steak rare. It was prepared well and very nice great. The Mac and cheese was extremely great so was the apparatus. The drinks were great. She had a monitor and I had a Alexander very good. Our waiter was Johnny he was great . He explained every thing to us . From how it was prepared to how they aged it. The best cocktails with each meal. My date really enjoyed it and loved it she posted it on here Facebook. Jennifer was a great hostess. She is excellent to make your reservations through. She gave us a great waiter and great seats for our first time there. We set upstairs viewing westhimer. The noise was at a medium."

  • "S&W is great for a chain restaurant. The truffle Mac and cheese is simply delicious. The original signature 24oz ribeye bone in is good, but very marbled. Cooked nicely. Our server James was awesome and knowledgeable. The wine list it top notch and the by the glass variety is very well thought out. Romantic and a great place to people watch."

  • "Don't get me wrong, Smith & Wollensky's was very good. The ratings above are partially based on expectations. It was not as good as I had expected compared to other top end steakhouses. The Good: 1) Table had a great view from the second floor overlooking Westheimer Rd. 2) Spinach, Poached Egg, & Bacon Salad was AMAZING 3)Drinks from the bar were generous pours 4) Service was Outstanding 5) My wife's Filet & Lobster was excellent The Disappointing: 1) Tables seemed cheap with flimsy metal legs...almost like a card table 2) Truffle Mac & Cheese was not good 3) Steak (Rib-Eye was very good, but I've had much better) In summary, a very good meal, but you can get better for the price."

  • "First we have eaten here several times and have always loved the service and food, however the last 2 times have been disappointing. The host and managers are skilled in customer service and appreciate their attitude; our qualm is with the waitstaff, the last two times have not been to the level you would expect from a high end place. There seems to be a lack of professionalism from the waitstaff I realize its a tough job but customer service should be the # 1 goal. First our waiter walked past us about 3 times and did not stop until 5 minutes later to ask if we wanted water. I had to ask for bread as he slightly rolled his eyes. I had to ask for the dessert menu, but he was quick to put the $200+ check on the table without me asking."

  • "Decent restaurant, but not outstanding. Which is a shame considering it's priced significantly higher than other high-end steak houses in the Houston area. One steak was good and the other was way overcooked and somewhat uninspired. Service is generally good and the bad steak was corrected very quickly. Overall, Smith & Wollensky is solid, but there's nothing to justify the higher prices compared to similar restaurants."

  • "We had Valentine's dinner, and it was probably the best ever. The bread was amazing to start the meal. We did not order an appetizer or salad, but the meal was plenty. The Filet Mignon was big, 10 oz, and cooked to perfection. The whipped potatoes were an excellent side as well. Great waiter and awesome view of Highland Village from the 2nd floor dining room. We will definitely be back!"

  • "They do a wonderful job allowing you the time to digest your food and not rush through each course. This was new to me as I suspected during Valentines Day that you would want to rush all your meal out for a busy set of clients. Fortunately, this was not the case as I was never too full even with the generation portions of foods. I love the atmosphere and the vibe they created with constant communication of who is entering and greeting clients proactively."

  • "This was our first anniversary celebration and I chose S&W due to a recommendation from a friend who said he ate the best steak in his life there. Although it was not the best steak I ever had, it is a part of a very short list of favourites. The Mrs was impressed though and enjoyed the evening. Ambience and service made the evening. I would certainly return, and would recommend it to friends."

  • "Reserved for 10:00PM, the hour at which the restaurant closed, and they did not let us in. Manager said that Open Table should not have allowed for a reservation less than 30 minutes before closing time. Whether or not it was Open Table's fault, this was a most disappointing experience with BOTH Open Table and Smith & Wollensky's itself."
