  • "My gal pal and I decided to dine their for brunch today and boy was I regretful that we did. Our server was not very attentive even though the restaurant/bar area where we were seated was NOT that busy. We both ordered Eggs Benedict Oscar style. I honestly hoped for something a bit more flavorful but alas, bland city. First of all, rye bread is a bad choice as a"carrier" of a runny egg, crabmeat, and béarnaise sauce. It was soggy upon arrival. My gal pal didn't even GET any poached eggs on her rye bread. Just crab and sauce. They were simply forgotten. When she told our server he brought them to her, broken. SO many other brunch places...SKIP this one."

  • "Another great choice for HRW -we had a wonderful relaxing lunch - went early to avoid crowds and were seated on the upper deck with a great view of Westheimer and the Highland Village Shops. Service was great. We had the broccoli cheese soup for starters - large creamy bowl that was very tasty. I had the delicious seared chicken on a bed of spinach and mushrooms, two had the savory BBQ steak tips with roasted corn on the cob with manchego cheese - wonderful flavor combo and the other had the salmon Ceasar salad - perfectly grilled. Dessert was typical NY cheesecake, chocolate layered cake with chocolate mousse - yum and the other had strawberry ice cream that tasted home made. We dined on good food, great service and relaxed for 2 hours."

Maybe the fact that we were 7 mexicans guys influenced their decision? Funny that everyone else in the redtaurant was "blond white" and confortably seated inside the cool area of the place."

It was 1:00 before we even got bread on the table, and it was 2:00pm when we got our main course. I've always received stellar service at this restaurant, but in one swoop, this experience erased any other positive ones."

  • "Houston has many choices for steakhouses and this is one that I had not yet tried so when Houston Restsurant Weeks came around I decided it was a good time to try S & W. It was good, not great. Service is very good and attentive. The wedge salad was among the best I've tried. The filet, not so much. My steak had not been allowed to rest properly and bled out when I cut into it. It also seemed to be a poor cut of filet. Perhaps this is what you get with the HRW menu, but it did not impress. Dessert was nothing special, just a bland slice of cheesecake with whipped cream and no imagination."

  • "We went here for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday and were totally blown away by the food. So much so that the entire meal that was essentially all we talked about - it was that GOOD. Everything from the scallop appetizer to the cocktails to the salads and steaks were to die for. My husband ordered the ribeye with the gorgonzola crust and I ordered the coffee & cocoa rubbed filet. Both steaks were incredible, especially paired with the truffle mac & cheese and creamed spinach. Our chosen wine was out of stock but the waiter recommended a wonderful substitute that we intend to add to our own collection we liked it so much. Next time we'll save room for dessert - and there will definitely be a next time very soon!"

  • "We had a family dinner with 9 people. My food was great, everyone seemed to enjoy theirs except my mother did not get her lobster until everyone else had finished eating. Also, I was in the bar area for cocktails and appetizers earlier. I ordered a dirty martini but it was straight goose. When I asked for olive juice, he did not remake the martini but poured olive juice into the glass. So it was a warm, not shaken, $20 dollar drink. I didn't feel that was a classy move and up to par with your restaurant."

  • "I had the grilled chicken Caesar salad and the grilled chicken was so dried out that it was difficult to cut it even with a steak knife. There was very little return service for refilling water glasses or having the soup spoon when the soup was served. Overall a big disappointment!"

  • "My department from work, a group of 9, dined at Smith & Wollensky for HRW's. The food was good. The service was slow at best. At one point, one member in our party went to look for our waitress. She was in the back wiping menu's. Everyone had completed their entree and were waiting for dessert. Our Director asked about the slow service and her excuse was the restaurant was very busy. It was not overly busy. The problem was poor time management on the waitress's part."

  • "This was a mediocre high-end steakhouse. The service was slower than it should have been, which may be a result of understaffing. Drinks were slow for about half of our table. As a steakhouse, the one thing they should absolutley get right is each individual's steak order. A member of our group ordered one of their signtaure dry-aged ribeyes and was brought a smaller portioned t-bone instead. This was a complete mishap of either the waiters understanding or the kitchens, but no remediation was made when this occurred. After waiting for awhile for the food, the only offer was to take the wrong steak or wait longer for the correct one. It had to be asked of the server to have a portion of the meal for this idividual to be comped."

  • "This was my first experience with Smith & Wollensky, I made reservations for a group of 5 ladies. We had a wonderful time, everything was superb as far as service ( very attentive wait staff, would have liked to have a purse tree, we noticed other tables were offered to hang their purses), and the environment (loved the music, 2nd level view ). The food was delicious ( Stuffed Shrimp and filet mignon) and we all plan to become repeat consumers. Thank you.."

  • "The decor is interesting, but noise from boisterous guests in another part of the restaurant spilled over to our area and damped the ambiance. The window tables with drapes are a nice touch.The steak was okay, but nothing special. America's, Churasco's and Saltgrass all do a far better job. The sommelier recommended some awesome wines that we loved. The bread was about equal to what you'd expect to get from a grocery store brand of frozen bread, I was surprised it didn't come in a little throw-away metal pan. On this trip, we had the worst asparagus that I've ever had. Neither my date or I could finish even one piece. This may be the first time ever that I didn't finish a cheese cake, it wasn't even worth taking the remainder to go."

  • "I took my mom here for lunch for Houston Restaurant Week. It was the first visit for both of us. The atmosphere was very nice without being too pretentious and we had a great seat upstairs overlooking Westheimer. The food overall was very good from both presentation to temperature to taste. The beef was super juicy and tender. The only downside was that our service was mediocre (slow to bring drinks, slow to refill, didn't offer sugar, overcharged us for our meal...which was later corrected, and failed to pack all the food to go as requested) even though the restaurant was not too busy at the time. I honestly think it was just our server because the server next to our table seemed attentive. All I would recommend for a great meal."

  • "I went here with some friends to celebrate my birthday dinner on 8/2. Everything was great from the dessert, food, wine list, private room, drinks except for 1 thing that can easily be fixed. My friend and I each ordered a long bone ribeye except he requested his medium well and I requested mine medium rare. When the steaks were served, the server didn't ask us which one of us ordered which steak so we received the wrong steaks. We figured it out after a couple of bites and just switched steaks. Our party was over 10 people and this wasn't too big of a deal to my friend and I but this is something that shouldn't happen to a place who's main course is serving steaks."

  • "The Good: The steaks were fantastic. Long Bone Ribeye for myself, Filet for the wife; both were cooked perfectly and melt-in-your mouth delicious. The Hash-browned potatoes were a great side and S&W's chocolate cake has to be one of the best in town. Watching the sunset over Highland Village through the floor to ceiling windows really sets the mood well. The Bad: The crab cakes and stuffed shrimp were nothing special. Neither was the creamed spinach. The service was friendly and adequate but lacked the white glove treatment you'd expect from a $150+ pp dining experience. This place is outrageously expensive and lacks the "it" factor which is a shame because the steaks are fantastic. I'd eat here again but only on someone else's EA."

  • "We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. Whilst elements of the dinner were outstanding - the service was wonderful, and the majority of the food was delicious, unfortunately my dry-aged sirloin steak was burnt to a crisp. The kitchen tried to hide this by turning the steak so that the least burnt side was showing. In only wanting a medium, this was a disappointing outcome, especially considering their reputation as a preeminent Houston steak-house. Being English, I was, of course, far too polite to demand a new one, especially considering the time it took for it to be originally cooked and the fact that my fellow guests were tucking into their dinners with gusto and vigor. This was SUCH a shame - it spoiled the evening for me."

  • "To be fair in this review I should point out this was stop 6 in an epic journey of the best steakhouses in this area of Houston with a client over a long period of days. If I would have started here I may have given them a better review. Having said that the total bill was up there with my top pick, Del Frisco's, so I would expect them to be as good. They were not. I got the three filet with three toppings plate, I asked for medium but what came out was medium well. Since each steak came with a large amount of toppings/seasonings I let it go, I knew I wouldn't really be able to tell the difference. My cohort in steaking asked for medium rare and his came out more medium, know this. Overall the cajun was overpowering, but the Gorgonzola A+"

  • "First of all our server was outstanding. Not too chatty, not overly attentive and definitely more refined then the server I had that evening at another restaurant! Young and very aware of the nature of our meal. Business interview. If I could I would have hired her. My crabcake was wonderful (would have preferred 2 for the price though) fresh crab and not a lot of fillers. The salmon that both of my guests had was dry and our server graciously took one of them back brought out a fresh one and new veggies as well-since the rest of us finished the asparagus and the spinach!"
