The Peppercorn coated Fillet and 3 raspberry martini were delicious. Shrimp bisque soup was great and we shared the coconut cake topped with large cocunut flakes.

This was our first time at S&W and everything about our visit was excellent. Staff was pleasant and attentive from the moment we walked in. Steaks were some of the best we have ever had and the free cookies they gave us when we left were a very nice touch. We'll definately be back in the summer to enjoy the spectacular view from the outside terrace.

We celebrated a birthday at SW on Saturday night. It was lights festival, so the City was busy. We had a reservation, but we were seated in a banquet room. One of the great things about SW is the view from the dining room, so I was disappointed. If I had been told that we wouldn't be in the main dining room, I would not have chosen SW for dinner. The food was very good. The service was slow. When I made the reservation I noted that we were celebrating a birthday. They never asked what we would like to do to celebrate but istead appeared with a large slice of chocolate cake for the table. Luckily, the birthday girl likes chocolate cake. I don't know why they didin't ask us how we would like to celebrate. Several of us would have ordered off of the dessert menu if we had been asked. As it was, we had alrady been there almost three hours and wanted to get home.

This was one of my go to spots but no more. It was last Saturday night and went there with my family. They sat us downstairs far tucked off in a back room with no sign of light. It was like sitting in a storage room in your basement. Food was ok at best and the service was not much better. Good by S&W. Good by forever.

We had a great night! We brought our 3 kids downtown for a show at the chicago theatre, and thought this would be perfect for dinner......and it was! Our steaks were cooked to perfection, and the sides were even better. That sat us next to the river so that the kids would have a view. Our waitress was completely helpful, and super attentive to the kids.

The staff is very accomidating, wine list is extensive, view is very nice, food is excellent tasting. Menu items are sold separate, so for a steak, side, dessert, and a wine - plan os spending $70 per person.

I brought a group of co-workers from around the world to S&W for an old school Chicago steakhouse experience. Although the ambiance was great the service was quite disappointing. If someone tried to ask another waiter or busser for something they would act put out and tell us to talk to our server who we could rarely find. For the price you pay to experience S&W they definitely need to step up their level of service. Not to mention my steak was overcooked. Then when they brought me a new one it was undercooked. I ate the undercooked steak at that point as everyone else was done with their meal. Will not be returning or recommending this place in the future.

It was a Sunday night and the waitstaff was great. I was celebrating an anniversary and the service and attention to that detail was above and beyond what any other restaurant has ever done. They not only congratulated us and gave us a post card, but they also gave us an anniversary desert.

The food here is always delicious. We have never had a bad meal and the wait staff is the bench mark for which others should strive. The restaurant makes it a point to make sure that you satisfied in every way. The signature bone in rib eye is unbelievable, ask them for suggestions on the preparation, they will steer you right.

Made reservation weeks ago, but was placed downstairs. Now that the Grill has been created, what is left downstairs that serves the upstairs menu looks like the stepchild overflow room. Also, although we were finishing up on a Friday night before 10:00 the wait staff began setting up the room for the next day. Felt like the wedding guests who have overstayed their welcome. Food was OK, but overall for all the money we spent, it was a disappointment.

This is my overall favorite restaurant in Chicago. I absolutely love the food (and have even ordered trays of the truffled macaroni and cheese for cocktail parties at my home). The staff is incredible and goes beyond the call of duty to make sure you have an exceptional experience. The lobster mango salad is out if this world. When friends or business connections ask for a recommendation, I always send them to S&W.

I was not happy with the experience. I was seated downstairs. The menu was short and sparse. Was the downstairs section a different S&W? Service was slow. On a Sunday early evening with maybe half the room filled, service was unaccountably slow. I was surprised by the lack of fresh green vegetables on the menu. There was sauteed asparagus and brussel sprouts, both served heavily coated in oil. Sorry folks, your house is not some place I would return to again

I arrived 30 minutes prior to reservation. was seated in a cold dark tend outside. table on either side of me was aprox 6 inches away tired of this type of seating arrangement want a private conversation+ do not want to bump elbows w/couple dinning next to me food was good Bone in filet+ filet Oscar cook to our liking Truffle mac/cheese tasted a little like a fridge maybe premade? I had it there before was excellent, this time not good Roasted root veg in duck fat were dry Needed a glass of H2o to eat lot of time in between the salad w/no drinks or dinner almost thought they forgot about food

  • Fillet mignon at poive
    DrShawnT
    Dined on 10/18/2014
The fillet was tender and melted in my mouth. It had amazing flavor but I chose to have it prepared "au poive". I have had this before but never at this restaurant. The amount of pepper on it was way too much and I had to scrape it off. The manager was very kind and offered a new steak to be prepared; I did not want to waste the beautiful piece of fillet mignonette that was already cooked to perfection. He gave me a new plate and brought gravy to the table without pepper in it and resolved the situation completely. It was wonderful. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant for another amazing meal.

We are a bit spoiled with so many great steak places in Chicago, and S&W is as good as any of them. We always have great food, service, and wine when we dine here. It's fair to say that we have never had a bad meal here. Try the filet mignon with one of their special sauces or go for the large ribeye. The salads and side dishes are excellent and are all sized to share. Lots of good wine choices, though some are a bit pricey (steakhouses really mark up the juice). Go...enjoy!

We both had the Filet Minion. They were tender, and cooked perfectly. We were able to order half size side dishes and finished everything. The service was perfect. Never had to wait for someone to refill our water or remove an empty plate. Their method of bringing food out on a cart was entertaining. We will return for another special occasion, as the price was high, which was fine for this place. The piano playing lady was good, adding nice background music.
