Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I celebrated our anniversary, for the second year in a row. The waiter selected a wonderful red wine to go with our meal. We started with soup, I had the famous Split Pea Soup (always melts in your mouth), my husband had Cream of Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper. He enjoyed it very much. For our entrées, I had the Petite Gorgonzola Crusted Filet. My husband had the 14th Cajon Filet. I enjoyed my filet, still the best ever! My husband said his filet was spicy, but he loves spicy. We had Whipped Potatoes and Mushroom and Shallots as our sides. Everything was spectacular. I had NY Cheesecake and my husband had Banana Chocolate Cake Split for dessert. Everything was spectacular. We'll definitely be back again :)"

  • "Your servers need to know your wine list. I hate when you order a wine, and it's clear they have no idea what you are talking about, and then 5 minutes later they come back and ask you again, "Which one did you order?" and you have to point it out to them. I expect better at your restaurant. Please train your servers!"

  • "We sat outside (it was a tab bit noisy at times though overall worth it for the first nice day of the year) and service was impeccable. Hot bread was a real treat! My salad Wollensky salad with tuna on it was amazing. So much rare tuna - high quality and the bacon was a dream come true. It was a great choice to impress a client though it was expensive ($75 for three) for lunch."

  • "I was very dissapointed with the overall dinning experience at SW. I had a party of ten for a business dinner. Our service started out good but went to poor by the end of the evening. We waited over thirty minutes for our main entree after salads. They were out of most fresh fish items which the server didn't know at the time of taking everyone's order. In some instances the server came back to inform my guest they didn't have there second choice for an entree. We waited another twenty minutes after everyone was finish eating. Personally I think our server is good but had to many tables. Chicago has many great resturants that will allow me not to return to this SW location."

  • "Excellent steak (filets, ribeyes) and seafood. Table downstairs by the window is nice -- I always bring my mother when she's in town, it's her favorite. Also great for lunch -- soup, salad, oysters and bloody marys!"

  • "I still love this place even when you can't sit outside. They have the best wedge and split pea soup in Chicago not mention some of the finest sushi grade tuna for a light lunch entrée. The staff is always friendly and accommodating."

  • "Good solid food. Our waiter was great, but had trouble communicating. Probably more my fault since I have been away from the big city for a long time!"

  • "Alex A was an excellent waiter. Our food was top noth, Lamb, Veal and Salmon. We always celebrate our anniversary there with our Son who now lives in Chicago."

  • "Food was excellent. Service top notch. Very noisy in the section we were in... A large group had obviously been drinking A LOT. They were extremely loud but at least not using offensive language. It was just difficult to carry on a conversation in their vicinity without having to talk loudly to each other. Other than that, great place and we'd definable return"

  • "This is my second time eating at this restaurant. I was entertaing two work colleagues and wanted to impress them with a great dining experience. As expected the food was very good. Our server was very nice but after placing our order and getting our wine, he never checked in with us. We poured our own wine and bypassed a second bottle because we couldn't get our waiters attention to order it in time. I was quite surprised given that the restaurant wasn't that busy and the price we were paying for our dinner. Overall based on the price point compared to the service level there are too many better alternatives in the city that have more solid service."

  • "We have been here before but in NYC. it actually reminded me of the NY location in that we had to go downstairs to dine. Pretty cool . Not a lot of places like that here in Chicago. Food was great...had the tenderloin trio. delicious, my friend enjoyed the bone in Porterhouse and said it was a very good steak. Everything was nice...No complaints at all."

  • "This is one of our favorites in Chicago with a great location and the best steak around. Service was outstanding. Great wine and awesome coconut cake. Can't wait to go back."

  • "We dined at a beautiful table with a view of the river. The food was pretty good - I would recommend the burrata as an appetizer, fries and creamed spinach to share, and any of the steaks or the burger. Service was a bit spotty and snotty, but overall just fine."

  • "We had 13 people for a birthday dinner. All 13 agree that the food was absolutely delicious and some of the best we have had. David was out server and he was outstanding. They had a card upon arrival for the birthday girl and brought out a massive chunk of cake for the entire group after our meal. Definitely above and beyond standard level of service. We were seated right along the river and the view was wonderful also. Very impressed and will definitely be back when we visit Chicago again!"

  • "Normally service is great - we had a waiter who never asked how our food came out. We were done with our meal and wanted a coffee but we couldn't even flag him down to ask for one. 15 min after we were finished he showed up not asking if we wanted anything just said I'll bring the dessert menu. By then we just wanted to leave."

  • "Thinking everyone would be at the parade on Saturday, we thought we could slip downtown see the river and enjoy a great lunch. How naive. People were EVERYWHERE. Thank goodness we had a reservation. Not only that but we had a window table. WOW! Great food and Great service!!"

  • "What a memorable experience! They were very accommodating! We requested a seat by the window and they happily accommodated. Our boys, ages 2 and 9 loved the view! Watching the boats go by in the green river was such a treat! They even gave our mother a special dessert for her birthday! The food was delicious as well!!! We would go back in a heartbeat!!!"

  • "This is one of my favorite steak houses. The quality of the food is for some reason much higher than other similar rated restaurants. The view in the fall and summer of the river is awesome. I would definitely recommend outdoor dining if you have the option."

  • "We had a much better experience at the Signature Room, it seemed as if Smith & Wolensky is living off of it "reputation" and not delivering the level that it professes. Seemed as if we overpaid and the service was under delivered."

  • "Enjoyed a great sampling of wine, coupled with some fabulous food. Wine samplings were great. Will need to book earlier next year. Our reservation was at 1 pm, and we still missed 5 of the reds to sample. Duo steak that included Gorgonzola and Cajun seasoning, with creamed spinach and hash browns were wonderful."

  • "My girlfriend and I decided to have a late Valentine's Day/ birthday dinner, and decided on Smith & Wollensky. It was our first time dining there an it exceeded our expectations in every way. I had the Filet Oscar, and my girlfriend had the Salmon. My filet was so tender I literally cut it with my butter knife. We complimented our meal with a side of the Truffled Macaroni and cheese, which was indescribably delicious. This may of been our first visit, but it definitely won't be our last."

  • "The food was excellent and the service was too. The portions were large enough to share between the two of us. We did not have to wait for anything from the time we arrived until we left."

  • "We love steak. We've been "touring" various steak restaurants in the Chicago area. We've been doing this each special occasion. I think we have a new champion. Our entire dining experience at Smith and Wollensky was amazing from start to finish. The service was flawless. Staff was attentive without being overbearing. They all knew that it was our Anniversary and they really took care to ensure that it was a special occasion. Each employee knew that it was our anniversary, and we were greeted with a complementary champagne glass, each and a lovely comped dessert. I can honestly say that this was, hands down, the most flavorful, tender fillet that we've had in the Chicagoland area, thus far. All in all, a perfect Anniversary meal."

  • "The food was great, and it over looks the river, indoor and outdoor expereince with amazing views. the service was very helpful on our first visit with great value for the quality of the cuts they use. Portions are large and filling, I went this a steak Oscar style and it was great. My girlfirend got their monster pork chop and loved it while we split their macaroni and cheese because we both love cheese and it was rich and wonderful. Top that off with a large piece of chocalate cake and it was a wonderful evening."
