The food was amazing. The bone marrow on top of the bone in ribeye was to die for. We had more fun at the bar though, should've had dinner there instead.

The server was arrogant and unfriendly. We were a party of six and she only put in 5 orders and left out my wife's. We ended up splitting up our food and the server provided a plate. The manager offered us complementary desert and then the cost appeared on the bill. I had a long bone rib eye steak which was tough and full of gristle. Definitely not a positive experience.

We were celebrating our daughter's 16th birthday with a couple of her friends. The service was impeccable, and the food was superior. We were presented with a generous slice of cake with a candle at the end of our dining experience, as well as a handwritten birthday card. Wonderful!

My husband and I were visiting Boston for business. While out for a walk we saw this beautiful building - a castle in downtown - it was Smith & Wollensky; so we made reservations and enjoyed a lovely meal. The food was very good and the service was fantastic. Our server, Sean took time to talk with us and share the history of the building. He even took us on a tour of the upper floors after a meal. It was a delightful evening.

Cheryl, our waiter, was so amazingly kind and efficient! I just can't praise the service here too highly. The occasion was a birthday, and we were given champagne and dessert to help us celebrate. So kind! The food is really excellent. We had the wonderful split pea soup. I ordered what may have been the best rib-eye steak I've ever tasted; my sister's filet was perfect; as was my daughter's, which was served with asparagus and Gorgonzola. The roasted root vegetables were perfectly cooked, and very tasty. For desert, we had a GARGANTUAN chocolate cake, which was delicious. The wine list is extensive, including wines by the glass. I can HIGHLY recommend the pear martini, made with elderflower water, and garnished with a brandied cherry. Yum!

Superb- from when you approach the castle- like building, you know you are going to have a great experience. We chose to try 1/2 dozen oysters, share a salad, and some delectable sides ; truffled Mac and cheese and the roasted vegetables cooked in duck opposite our steaks. I had a delicious 10oz filet done Cajun style. For dessert - layered coconut cake. Also delicious. So... Delicious overall. Try Smith and Wollensky in the castle in Back Bay for a royal experience!!! And yes, they Valet!

This was our second trip to S & W Back Bay. The rib eye I had was a bit thin and dry. The other two steaks were Filet with Rossini, the cook should go lighter with the sauce. The filets were smothered and totally masks the flavor of the meat. The hash browns were brown on one side and were hash blacks on the other side(burnt). The only alcohol was a $22.00 Scotch. I did valet the car and to my suprise the valet says $18.00 for car plus tip of $7.00 was $25.00. My total for the night. $352.67. Our first experiance was good. We were with a large group and had the private room up stairs. This is why we came back. Next time Capital Grill or Stregga Waterfront.

Come sit amongst the history of our country and enjoy a good steak. The Castle is the former HQ of the Massachusetts Miltia so do the self tour and peer at the architecture. The food is good and served well with waiters that engage at the right time and give a bit of the history too if you ask them.

We found the historical significance of the building to be the best part of the entire experience. Other than that, it falls into the same category as a Ruth's Chris or Metropolitan Grill...very expensive, prime beef, and the standard stale sides...creamed spinach, mushrooms, etc. The service was prompt, but not particularly friendly. Also, the restaurant was unable to accommodate separate checks on a group over 6 which was a disadvantage, as this was a non-hosted work event, with multiple groups attending. With a bill coming in at $2500 plus for the evening, we would assume that the staff could make that accommodation.

We celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary and received a thoughtful card and comp champagne toast upon arriving. The beef was excellent and the building is extremely interesting being a castle. It was a Sunday night so we were allowed to wander thru the building which was special as my husband did a lot of finish carpentry there. We had a lovely evening.

I ended up at S&W for my husband's birthday. Best decision ever! The bread was a pull apart type of bread that was very tasty. Then we ordered a bowl of smoked clam chowder that was to die for! It was oh so good. If I ever go back there this is what I am going to order. My meal was the filet and baked stuffed shrimp. The steak was like butter and so tender and the crab meat stuffed shrimp just heavenly. If it weren't for the high end prices I would visit this place more often but it is just not in the family budget. S&W gets 4 thumbs up (2 from me and 2 from the hubby).

Once seated, We received a wonderful and tasty warm bread at the table. The appetizers were good being the iceberg wedge and the crabmeat appetizer. I ordered their signature rib eye, It was a thin cut, flavorless and dry( even being cooked a medium rare). The creamed spinach side was ordinary and a corn/manchego cheese side which was not a tasty recipe. The dessert we ordered was a bluberry tart which was dry and flavorless(the vanilla ice cream which came with it was needed). The service was impeccable at this restaurant, yet for the price(my rib eye at near $50 ) i would not recommend this restaurant. I have been to better steak houses in Boston.

As always, the food at Smith & Wollensky at the Castle was fit for a king! The waitstaff does an impeccable job of catering to your every need but without making you feel as if they're hovering. This staff is truly professional. It is a beautiful building as well, making for a warm & welcoming atmosphere. It was my husband's and my wedding anniversary and when we arrived we were greeted each with a glass of champagne and a small, fresh and amazing crab appetizer. THEY EVEN GAVE US AN ANNIVERSARY CARD WHICH THE STAFF ALL SIGNED!!! We have been before and will continue to go back to this enchanted castle!

My Husband and I had the most amazing experience at Smith & Wollensky this weekend. We arrived early, and were greeted by the incredibly friendly John who told us that the dining room wasn't quite ready yet so he showed us to the bar. We ended up spending the entire night there! Michael and Luis at the bar were fantastic. They quickly served us champagne upon learning it was my birthday. Michael then proceeded to help us decide on the most amazing dinner selections. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The castle is so impressive. We went exploring and bumped into John again who gave us a mini tour which was fabulous. It was a fantastic evening, amazing food, service that made us feel like rock stars. We can't wait to go back! Thank you!

My husband and I took my son and his girlfriend to this restaurant for his birthday. The restaurant is in a huge stone castle fortress and, once inside, you are enveloped in the ambiance of an historic setting with beautiful old architectural features, with smooth jazz playing in the background. Our waiter was great...welcoming, informative, attentive and friendly. He overhead us saying it was my son's birthday and arranged for us to receive an amuse bouche. Two of us had the filet oscar; the other two had bone-in aged steaks - all were the best we ever had. My son also received a complimentary slice of cheesecake and a birthday card signed by the waiters...fantastic dining experience!

Definitely has that "chain" feel. The servers were in jackets that need some serious updating/dry cleaning. Servers looked sloppy. (as well as management in suits that were ill fitted.....i know i cant knock them for a bad fitted suit, but, they looked like used car salesmen. The biggest thing I couldn't get over was that everything "scripted" in what they had to say/upsell. It was more about what they wanted to "sell" than listening to what the patrons wanted to eat. And personally, i dont like being checked on every 5 minutes....let me eat, and most of the time it was interrupting a conversation. And the devil is the details, they need to dim the lights in here a little bit, little too bright. Food was good, but, nothing spectacular.

Smith and Wollensky has always been our "go to" spot. We celebrate birthdays, job promotions and special holidays here! We got engaged on our way into Boston for dinner. (Fiancé had me thinking it was an end of the summer dinner.) On the reservation "Just got engaged!!" was written. We got zero acknowledgment from any employee at Smith and Wollensky. The awful part is the people checking in behind us got a "Happy 27th anniversary". Next time I'll go to Ruth's Chris were they acknowledge special events.

My husband and I went during restaurant week so we got a bargain and we still spent well over $100. That being said, the food and service were excellent. We had never visited this restaurant therefore when asked if we wanted a special table,we said no. We were seated in a small room that was not very attractive. Upon leaving, we took a little tour and found a very attractive large dining area. I wish we had known prior to seating.

Great location, first class service, varied menu. Tried their pre-fixed menu for restaurant week which included appetizer, entree and dessert for $38. Very disappointed as the entree was just the meat and did not come with anything else. Each side potato, veggie, etc was an additional charge if $11-14 each. Therefore the meal with 2 sides went from $38 to $63. I have never seen that happen during restaurant week in any other restaurant . So what should have been a $80 check was actually a $138 check

The location and the building are absolutely amazing. Service was also exquisite. We went in a small group (5) for restuarant week to try this place out and were somewhat disappointed with thier offering. As compared to Capital Grill which we also visited as part of restaurant week the food was bland and offer was miniscule. The food however left a lot to be desired. All items were fairly bland and did not give a true sample of what it is that Smith and Wollensky is known for. They also did not offer any sides with the entree so you have to purchase ala-cart on top of the restaurant week. I found that fairly pretentious. Long story short. I don't see myself wanting to return. - it was also empty for restaurant week (I know why)
