As always, the food at Smith & Wollensky at the Castle was fit for a king! The waitstaff does an impeccable job of catering to your every need but without making you feel as if they're hovering. This staff is truly professional. It is a beautiful building as well, making for a warm & welcoming atmosphere. It was my husband's and my wedding anniversary and when we arrived we were greeted each with a glass of champagne and a small, fresh and amazing crab appetizer. THEY EVEN GAVE US AN ANNIVERSARY CARD WHICH THE STAFF ALL SIGNED!!! We have been before and will continue to go back to this enchanted castle!

My Husband and I had the most amazing experience at Smith & Wollensky this weekend. We arrived early, and were greeted by the incredibly friendly John who told us that the dining room wasn't quite ready yet so he showed us to the bar. We ended up spending the entire night there! Michael and Luis at the bar were fantastic. They quickly served us champagne upon learning it was my birthday. Michael then proceeded to help us decide on the most amazing dinner selections. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The castle is so impressive. We went exploring and bumped into John again who gave us a mini tour which was fabulous. It was a fantastic evening, amazing food, service that made us feel like rock stars. We can't wait to go back! Thank you!

My husband and I took my son and his girlfriend to this restaurant for his birthday. The restaurant is in a huge stone castle fortress and, once inside, you are enveloped in the ambiance of an historic setting with beautiful old architectural features, with smooth jazz playing in the background. Our waiter was great...welcoming, informative, attentive and friendly. He overhead us saying it was my son's birthday and arranged for us to receive an amuse bouche. Two of us had the filet oscar; the other two had bone-in aged steaks - all were the best we ever had. My son also received a complimentary slice of cheesecake and a birthday card signed by the waiters...fantastic dining experience!

Definitely has that "chain" feel. The servers were in jackets that need some serious updating/dry cleaning. Servers looked sloppy. (as well as management in suits that were ill fitted.....i know i cant knock them for a bad fitted suit, but, they looked like used car salesmen. The biggest thing I couldn't get over was that everything "scripted" in what they had to say/upsell. It was more about what they wanted to "sell" than listening to what the patrons wanted to eat. And personally, i dont like being checked on every 5 minutes....let me eat, and most of the time it was interrupting a conversation. And the devil is the details, they need to dim the lights in here a little bit, little too bright. Food was good, but, nothing spectacular.

Smith and Wollensky has always been our "go to" spot. We celebrate birthdays, job promotions and special holidays here! We got engaged on our way into Boston for dinner. (Fiancé had me thinking it was an end of the summer dinner.) On the reservation "Just got engaged!!" was written. We got zero acknowledgment from any employee at Smith and Wollensky. The awful part is the people checking in behind us got a "Happy 27th anniversary". Next time I'll go to Ruth's Chris were they acknowledge special events.

My husband and I went during restaurant week so we got a bargain and we still spent well over $100. That being said, the food and service were excellent. We had never visited this restaurant therefore when asked if we wanted a special table,we said no. We were seated in a small room that was not very attractive. Upon leaving, we took a little tour and found a very attractive large dining area. I wish we had known prior to seating.

Great location, first class service, varied menu. Tried their pre-fixed menu for restaurant week which included appetizer, entree and dessert for $38. Very disappointed as the entree was just the meat and did not come with anything else. Each side potato, veggie, etc was an additional charge if $11-14 each. Therefore the meal with 2 sides went from $38 to $63. I have never seen that happen during restaurant week in any other restaurant . So what should have been a $80 check was actually a $138 check

The location and the building are absolutely amazing. Service was also exquisite. We went in a small group (5) for restuarant week to try this place out and were somewhat disappointed with thier offering. As compared to Capital Grill which we also visited as part of restaurant week the food was bland and offer was miniscule. The food however left a lot to be desired. All items were fairly bland and did not give a true sample of what it is that Smith and Wollensky is known for. They also did not offer any sides with the entree so you have to purchase ala-cart on top of the restaurant week. I found that fairly pretentious. Long story short. I don't see myself wanting to return. - it was also empty for restaurant week (I know why)

The service was phenomenal. We enjoyed a wonderful wine selection with the help of our server who was also a sommelier. The steaks were very good and perfectly prepared. The sides left something to be desired. We had the creamed spinach, truffled macaroni and cheese, and the whipped potatoes. None had much flavor, especially when compared to the delicious steaks. Overall though, we were very pleased and will come back again.

It was our 19th wedding anniversary which I noted in our reservation for Dine-Out week in Boston. Our waiter immediately acknowledged this occasion with a flutes of champagne and a Happy Anniversary card signed by all the staff! What a wonderful touch! Food was very good, perfectly prepared and delicious. Trying out an upscale restaurant during Dine-Out week is a great way to experience a new restaurant at a fantastic price. We would go back even without the Dine-out prices now.

The steak was just not great and this is supposed to be a steakhouse. The sauce (au poivre) was also not great. My wife had the crab cakes which were not cooked well, as they were very mushy on the inside. All in all not a place to come back to

This was my first time at the castle and I was slightly disappointed. The place was great and the service ok but the food what not as good as i was expecting. It was like they forgot to add seasoning to the food. I never add salt but I need to salt my stead and mac and cheese as they were both bland. I'm not sure if this is a reflection on how the treat "restaurant week" customers but I wasn't impressed. It makes me not want to revisit this location. I have been to another Boston location with much better food and service that wasn't so forced and memorized.

Located in an actual pre-revolutionary Castle , Smith & Wolenskys lived up to royalty in every way. While the seafood tower was a little low for the price ($65), the beefsteak tomato salad, the hashbrown potatoes, the fresh corn, and particularly the incredible bone-in ribeye steaks more than compensated. Service was fit for a King! Topping the night off was the tour of the upper floors by the Manager, which is a history lesson in and of itself. Truly a regal night!!

We went to an early dinner in order to get to another amazing Boston mainstay, "Shear Madness" (longest running and hilarious play in American Theater at 33 years and counting) to celebrate my brother's birthday. The historic renovation of the castle and immediately available background sheet made it like eating in a beautiful and inviting museum. As a steakhouse the food was delectable (chicken only got okay reading from my husband). Waiter was a tad too self important, but did not detract much from the otherwise lovely and generally worthwhile costly experience. Great for special events.

S&W in NYC has been on my list for a while. When I found out we were going to be in Boston, I thought I'd see if they had a sister location. Turns out, they have two. Of course, I chose the castle location, and thankfully it was closest to our Copley Place hotel. They have several signature steaks on the menu. I chose the coffee & cocoa rubbed filet. It did not disappoint. Terrific crust. It was a little more medium well than medium, but it didn't hurt the flavor. The Hubs had the long bone rib eye. This is an expensive steak and while the parts he ate were good, it was extremely fatty and much of the steak was wasted. He should have sent it back, but it was my birthday & he didn't want to cause a fuss. Truffled mac & cheese was good.

Had a great time here with my girlfriend. The steak was good, but nothing to write home about. Service wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad. When you go to a restaurant of this caliber you expect the waiter to listen to your order and not write it down. Our waiter was a veteran and he wrote it down. Our dinners were delivered in reverse (I got my girlfriend's dinner), but it wasn't a big deal to switch plates. Also, our water glasses took a very long time to be refilled and we had to ask the manager who was walking around. Just small things that make you feel like your not at a place of high-quality service. Overall, I would say go for the experience but do not expect something that will blow you away.

On arrival we were greeted by a bar server, he took our drink and appetizer order. 30 min later the appetizer came. He apologized as their kitchen was busy. That's fine. Once we finished in the bar we asked twice when we would be seated in the restaurant. In the dining area staff were repeatedly dropping dishes etc. We & other guests commented how odd that was. We ordered dinner/wine and when it came the steaks were ok but the shrimp was way overdone. The server fumbled around serving our sides spoon by spoon. I had to tell him to stop. Wine was not what we ordered. Asked for the rest of the bottle to go and server said they were out of to go bags but gave us a paper bag stapled at the top. Not quite the experience we expected or paid for.

FIRST WE DID NOT ORDER WINE OR DRINKS AS THE WAITER RECOMMENDED AND WE COULD TELL HE DEVELOPED AN ATTITUDE RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING. WE ASKED OUR WAITER WHAT SPECIAL DISHES WERE FAVORED BY MOST GUESTS AND AFTER LISTENING TO HIM WE WENT ON HIS RECOMMENDATION FOR THAT NIGHT'S SPECIAL, TRUELY A DISAPPOINTING MEAL! AFTER WE FINISHED THE MEAL OUR WAITER ASKED IF WE WANTED DESSERT, WE DECIDED WE DID NOT AND THE WAITER'S PERSONALITY COMPLETELY CHANGED FOR THE WORSE EVEN MORE. FRANKLY, I COULD HAVE FOUND A MUCH BETTER WAY TO DROP $700.00 PLUS!!!

It is in a castle. In Boston, A CASTLE! Great history, ask to sit in the arsenal room off the main room in the rear. You can tour the castle which served as a Armory during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The woodwork and the restoration is amazing. The murals on the upper floor are timeless. We have been regulars in the NY Restaurant for years and were amazed with hte history of this location. Food was, as expected, superb. Ask for Amy to serve you.

I've dined at the Smith & Wollensky (S & W) - Back Bay location only a handful of times. There's something about S &W that invites me to try a different cut of steak each visit. At most other steak houses, I usually stick with the filet mignon. It was my plan to order the rack of lamb, which I've had in the past, but it is no longer on the menu. Instead I ordered the bone-in ribeye and it did not disappoint. It was my cousin's first time at a Smith & Wollensky and she enjoyed every aspect of her dining experience.
