A word from Smith & Wollensky Boston – Back Bay
Eat like royalty in Boston’s most famous castle.

Indulge your senses and sense of history with the unique dining experience of our Boston steakhouse. Located in a historic stone and brick “castle” built in 1891, the structure originally served as the headquarters for the First Corps of Cadets and is listed on the National Historic Register. The first floor gunroom, social hall, and museum floor have been converted to the main dining room. The castle also boasts an impressive collection of private dining rooms, and the fourth floor Battle Room is one of Boston’s most coveted locations for large parties.

Food was incredible. Our waitress was far from nice and often times rude. I love the restuarant and will return but it would help for the staff to put a smile on their faces.

We were not impressed with this restaurant. The staff was over attentive to the point that it felt rather impersonal. They tried really hard to impress but it seemed like they were trying to hard . Each table was served by many waiters, it made us feel uncomfortable and we felt a bit rushed through our meal, though there were not many people there at all, most of the tables were vacant. It might be different at night or when Restaurant Week is not going on. The food was good but nothing outstanding, we probably won't go there again...for the money we would spend on a regular evening there we could go somewhere with better food and better ambience. It was an amusing experience however, so we are not sorry that we went.

I found that this restaurant was over-rated. My filet did not come out the way I ordered it and the food is overpriced for the quality and the quantity recieved. My wine glass was dirty and my creme brule was burnt. The only positive part of my visit was that waitstaff was excellent and very friendly. I have to say that will never go back to Smith & Wollensky's - it was a disappointment.

The food here is very good -- a notch above your typical up-scale chain steakhouse -- but the reason to come to S&W in Boston is the building -- the wood paneled walls and war memorabilia create a tasteful and refined atmosphere and are the perfect conversation piece in between courses of top-notch food.

I was very impressed with the service and the menu. The opportunity to dine at such a fine restaurant was due to the Restaurant Week in Boston and I wanted to participate in this great event that only comes once a year! I really loved the atmosphere. The food was excellent! Thank you Smith & Wollensky's for a great time. Look forward to visiting soon. I will pass on to everyone your 5-star rating!!!! Respectfully, Tracey in Quincy

The pricing was terrible. That the entree was provided with no sides during restaurant week so that they had to be purchased, took away from the "bargain" that it was supposed to be. Still too pricey of a place.

We took advantage of "Resturant Week" to go for lunch. It was worth it. The menu was scaled down, we expected that for $20.00/ person. We were in a small room; held about 20+ people, we ate late, so by the time the Entree arrived, we had the room to ourselves, very quite, very nice. We will probably do it again next year.

Service was horrible; we were never asked if everything was satisfactory (which it wasn't), if we'd like coffee with our dessert, and were presented with the check before we were through eating. I realize restaurant week customers don't make them great money but it is a good chance to recruit returning patrons. We will never go back.

I was disappointed at the main entree (the filet) for the restaurant week menu. It was overcooked and charred. The side dishes, dessert and salads were great... but you go to S&W for a steak not the side dishes.. and I can't say that would be my first place to go back to next time I want a really good steak.

The food is exquisite. The tenderloin filet is very tender and juicy. The sauces accent the dishes very well. Each bite is a succulent occassion. The portion sizes are very big. The appetizers are not for one person, espically the mozzerella and tomato salad. The decor is nice as it is an old fort, the historic marker for the building is on the front. As well the self guided 4 story tour is good for the first timer. The noise is a little higher then in most restuarants, but you can hear the person across from you without a problem. The wait staff was very courteous and took care in making sure everything was right. Although it is a bit pricey, you get what you pay for. Overall it is a wonderful experience to have.

The server was very helpful as my son has a shellfish allergy; he went out of his way to find out from the chef exactly which dishes were or were not safe. They were a little rushed, probably because it was restaurant week, but I think they all coped admirably. The food was good, although a couple of the sides were cold. We might come back when it's not restaurant week; our kids (both aged 17) really liked the food.

We were overcharged for the wine, unfortunately we did not realise until we went through the bill at home. It was a restaurant week meal , we were given the wrong menu, there were alot of supplements, all in all it was rather confusing. The waiter was rushed and it was noisy,so although the food was great it was rather disappointing. We do accept that being English we do infact speak a very different language!

Food was great and the atmosphere was unique, but the service was as deadpan as it gets. Not bad or rude...our waiter was just completely unemontional and uncaring. He didn't make any attempt at all to engage us; in fact, the hostess who sat us talked to us more during the short walk to the table than our server did during the entire evening.

Went during Restaurant Week, and the steak was overcooked - medium arrived charred. We were seated in a back room where the ambiance wasn't particularly inviting - a door to the kitchen would swing open occasionally, and we felt like we were in a forgotten corner of the restaurant, where most tables were empty.

Smith & Wollensky was a bit disappointing since we didn't realize that they would serve the main course with no side dishes! I realize it is a fancy steak place but for restaurant week, they should throw some sides on for free. Or AT LEAST, make sure they explain on their restaurant week menu that there are no sides with the main course. It was deceiving. And annoying. So rather than spend $33/person, we ended up getting a few sides at $8 each.. so it was pricier than I expected. I was not pleased with this AT all. I picked this restaurant for my birthday dinner and in the end, my friends spent more money on dinner for me than I originally expected.

A bit pricey, even for Restaurant Week. Nothing comes with the main course--not even garnish. If you do not want your delicious hunk of filet to just sit lonely in the midddle of your plate, you can purchase, above and beyond the prix fixe, an $8 serving of sauteed spinach. We knew this ahead of time--it is just an observation. The dessert was a good creme brulee, but the carmelized sugar on top was soft, as if made much earlier so that the sugar got moist. The rolls were cutely served in a tiny round baking dish, but I would wish for something more healthy, other than white bread. Overall, a great experience, & we enjoyed wandering around the castle after dinner to absorb some of the history of the building.
