Eat like royalty in Boston’s most famous castle.

Indulge your senses and sense of history with the unique dining experience of our Boston steakhouse. Located in a historic stone and brick “castle” built in 1891, the structure originally served as the headquarters for the First Corps of Cadets and is listed on the National Historic Register. The first floor gunroom, social hall, and museum floor have been converted to the main dining room. The castle also boasts an impressive collection of private dining rooms, and the fourth floor Battle Room is one of Boston’s most coveted locations for large parties.

We were a party of eight celebrating a group achievement so we pushed the boat out and we were not disappointed. The waiter was fantastic, patient while we dithered over our ride and guided us through the wine list. His recommendations were spot on. The food when it arrived was fantastic. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

The dining experience at Smith and Wollensky was excellent. Our server Sean was very professional, knowledgeable, and delivered a memorable experience to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Sean has a great personality and made our dining experience fun and enjoyable for a large party of 10 people. The food and ambiance was wonderful and we look forward to coming back to celebrate the next special occasion. Best regards, Lisa

I would highly recommend this Smith and Wollensky for special occasions. The "palace" is beautiful and the waiter give you a history of the place before taking your order. It is crazy expensive, but the portions are huge and the steaks are fabulous.

We went for dinner to celebrate my college graduation. They were incredibly accommodating, as our reservation number kept changing. The service was wonderful and they made sure everything was to our liking, and even gave me a congratulations card signed by all the waiters! You really do get what you pay for, as this is not an inexpensive place. But highly recommended for those extremely rare go-all-out events.

Had heard fantastic things about the wait staff and how they can really add to your experience by talking about the buildings history etc. Not only did our server NOT do that, he also forgot to place the order for my daughters meal-and it was her graduation. The manager tried to make up for it with dessert, but that didnt go smoothly either. Sadly not worth the price tag.

S & W may not want this to be known but it is a great place for a vegetarian. The sides are excellent but the waiter offered a vegetarian entre choice that was not on the menu. This was no toss-off entre to be able to say they accommodated me. It was a beautifully presented fully developed tasty entre full of flavor. The service was outstanding and cordial.

Went for dinner on Sunday 5/4 to celebrate wedding anniversary. First visit to the Castle and it was a great night. Started with a complimentary champagne toast. Nice fresh bread came next, then both had classic wedge salad which was outstanding. For main course, I had Filet Au Poivre with baked stuffed shrimp. Steak was very good, as was rub and sauce. Shrimp was overcooked, which was only disappointment. Wife had Filet Au Poivre with side of baked potato and sauteed mushrooms. Sides were excellent. Our waiter, Travers, was outstanding. He was attentive and informative but not overbearing. Overall very pleased with entire experience. Manager brought over a card signed by the staff which was a very nice touch.

The Filet Mignon was the best I have ever had... The only draw back was a lack of explanation on the only special they had. We specifically asked if there were any specials and we were told no. My wife and I noticed a chalkboard with a special after we ordered and when we asked about it we were told it was too late to change but that they did have a special! It was disconcerting but did not detract from an overall excellent dining experience .

We were in from Buffalo for a conference . We found it online and walked . The bldg is an old castle and was amazing . Food was to die for and service was top notch! My favorite part was we were told that we were free to explore around all several floors after dinner . Meeting rooms and banq rooms were all on floors 2 - 4. Lit fires roared in the fire places , Amazing antiques And architecture abound .The tables were all set . Its a one if a kind find and a must see and do while in Boston ! We oh the " gigantic chocolate cake" for the table .its enough for 5 people easily!! Do yourself a favor and go to dinner at Smith and Wollensky !!!

I have to admit I was disappointed. I had read such great reviews, and I wonder if the Boston Marathon crowds were a bit overwhelming for the staff. 1. Our reservations were lost, but eventually we were seated. 2. Service was slow, and our waiter rarely checked in with us. 3. Requests for more wine, more butter, were never fulfilled.

We went to the restaurant on Easter Sunday. The staff on the entrance was negotiating that I made a mistake on reservation because I did not add the kids. Then when we entered the restaurant was semi-empty. The calamari we ordered as appetizer was very salty, neither me nor the kids ate it. My steak was very fatty that I had to take Tums the rest of the day. The staff was not friendly, and I never seen a smile - as if they are just doing their job on a day that they don't want to come. At the end, the manager gave the kids very cheap egg shells with chocolate inside that peeled before we even reached the car.

The waiter recommend a porterhouse for my date and I, and he then came back five minutes later saying he came back and said they only had five porterhouses and sold them all already – It was 6 PM on the Saturday night of marathon weekend (were they not expecting and porterhouse lovers?). I told the waiter we were going to a show and had to be on our way by 7:30. We never saw our waiter after 7:10. After stopping two bus boys, the manger brought me the check after 7:40. After signing the check we ran to the theater and after getting through the lobby the doors to the auditorium were closed in our face. Paid $450 for the tickets and missed the first song.

While we loved our server and food in January, the management failure of that visit continued into our Attempt for Redemption visit.. The gift card the GM issued was never even funded with the anticipation of an actual returning patron. The manager and then the general manager both tried and failed to redeem the card, also lost our discount survey receipt(usually kept for records??), and made us wait 30+ minutes to settle the tab. They were just flailing.. we pray the Waterfront location is more competent. A third try won't happen, too many other steakhouses to visit in Beantown.... As far as the service was concerned, menus, and bread took way too long. Twas not a busy night there... our wait times were ridiculous.

Of course the steaks and service were wonderful; that's what one would expect. But the unexpected happened from the moment we walked into the intimate and lovely bar/dining area, and our drinks arrived. The Carpano Antica sweet vermouth transformed a great manhattan into the sublime category. Compliments were sent to the chef for the salad dressing, of all things. And the seafood was perfectly done. The waiter took excellent care of us and made sure we were out of the restaurant for our curtain time at a nearby theatre, a fact we had mentioned in the Open Table reservation form which had been transmitted seamlessly to the wait staff. Thanks for an experience that felt very special.

We dined at Smith & Wollensky Boston - Back Bay during Dine Out Boston. The service was great - everyone was friendly, from the host to the servers. The food was excellent - steaks were perfectly done and the sides were delicious. Sides really are portioned for sharing - especially the potatoes (we were shocked and amused by the size of the potato brought to the table)! The atmosphere was quiet and conducive to conversation, and the waiter came by frequently enough to check in without being overbearing. All four of us enjoyed our evening at Smith & Wollensky and plan on returning in the future. If you've never been to this restaurant, give it a try - you won't be disappointed!

We were a party of 6. 4 out of the 6 people received steaks that were over cooked. One people in our party received a totally different steak than what they ordered. The filet was not a good quality filet- possibly because it was restaurant week. It certainly wasn't as good as it normally is at this establishment. I will not be back.

The restaurant was not what I expected. The idea of dining in a castle seemed so exciting however upon arrival, the staff was not friendly. I expected the servers to be welcoming and they were just the opposite.I felt like I was in a factory as so many different servers waited on us and not one of them were accountable. They were not friendly, had an attitude and made no effort in their delivery. The $38 salmon was farm raised which was a surprise. I would have expected this quality of restaurant to have wild salmon. Despite the farmed salmon, the food was really good, however due to the poor service and dated ambiance I would not return.

We went to celebrate our engagement and had the best time in the bar area - excellent wine/drink recommendations, delicious oysters and everything Michael recommended was outstanding. We originally planned to sit in the dining room but had so much fun in the bar area that we snagged a table by the fireplace ate until we were stuffed. Everything was outstanding. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that we were 45 min early for our reservation and the restaurant was 1/4 full, we were directed to the bar (where we ended up staying as we loved the bartenders so much) but were never offered our table until we asked an hour later. Poor on the front of the house front.

My fiance and I like to try new restaurants in Boston a couple times a month. We look up the top restaurants in the area and then make our reservation. The steak was not what we expected. For 60$ a steak we thought it would have had a much better flavor. Compared to other steak houses we have been to we thought Smith & Wollensky was not up to par. We will not be going back there again.

Took my 90 year old grandparents there for dinner. Everything was tremendous - service, food, ambiance. They especially enjoyed the location, historical building, and it wasn't too loud for them to have lively conversation. I highly recommend Smith and Wollenky's; I think it would be appropriate for almost any occasion - bday, date, romantic etc....
